Texans Wide Receivers

Just so I am clear as sometimes all I have time for is a drive-by post as I really shouldn't try to engage here while trying to do the day job.

I was saying to Nitro that IMO when he says he thinks Metchie could get cut what he really means is that he hopes Metchie gets cut. In other words, there isn't anything coming out from DeMeco that says Metchie is at risk to be cut. And while anything is a possibility (percentages are never zero) it is highly unlikely.

But Nitro holds a particular opinion about the lack of value Metchie brings to the roster. And I respect that even if I don't agree with it. All I was saying that whether it is truly what he thought was an actual possibility based on any messaging coming from the team, or something he just hoped happens because he doesn't see why they would keep him around, we will know sometime this afternoon.
The roster is out and Metchie is on it.

I don’t know anything about this America band. Can we get back to important matters. You think you have problems? I’m stuck out here in the desert on a horse with no name. I don’t even know what to call this thing. It’s a total disaster.

What is the cap hit for the horse? Any guaranteed money involved and what can it do in the 40? Is Mulugheta involved? Denver may be interested in another Bronco are you interested in a trade?

Yeah, if Mechie could become a solid wide receiver three on next year's roster that would definitely lower the need to pick up a wide receiver by day two in 2025.
I'm hoping for a heavy defense draft. The DT position is really good this college season. There are some LB's out there that are talented too. Add 2 playmakers at these positions and the defense would be elite.

Alshon Jeffery and Eric Moulds are two names I see a lot of similarities to their game in Nico. It is hard for me to compare anyone to AJ80.
Problem is Nico has speed like AJ that Jeffery and Moulds did not.

Speed, route running, size, run after catch prowess. Not many unicorns to compare him to that don’t have a gold jacket. Glad he’s on our team!

AJ and Calvin Johnson were imo the two best freaks” at WR. The size and the brain. Otherworldly talent AND work ethic. That’s why they are HOF players. Hopefully Nico gets to be in that discussion after helping Houston collect what those two guys never got… :trophy:

After this season, it will be easier to make player comps for Mr Nico Collins. Remember first two seasons it seemed like he was playing himself back into Football shape (missed covid year @ Michigan). Then some injuries to overcome in year one & two with Texans. He did get banged up last season as well, but managed his body and returned.

Collins is a very toolsie, big and athletic WR who plays smart and with a lot of heart. If he stacks back to back seasons, improves over last year (playoff stud) he could be very close to an early version of Julio Jones with his outstanding hands & YAC!

And to think some were complaining because Caserio traded up in the 3rd rd to pick Nico.

I think draftniks on here are very good at finding talent, but we don't have the inside info that Caserio has.

So far considering he didn't have a lot of draft capital to work with in year one, I think he's doing and outstanding job. He's a calculated risk taker who goes out and finds a way to get the players the HC wants. He values quality over quantity.

I'm really worried about the Texans LB corps this year. They're counting on Al Shaair and Harris to stay healthy. I think that's a bad bet, especially with Harris already on the IR. The run defense will suffer and the DL will get most of the criticism. Richardson and Taylor really are going to test them this week. This is a bad matchup for the Texans defense. IMHO

The Texans will play at KC week 16.
Less worried about them than Indy, home opener and last time they played was their last as Texans ended their season. Now there is this trash talking between players and bad blood.

Understand KC is widely recognized (rightfully so) as best team, best QB, best coach and best organization but they just don’t scare as much as going to Indy week one.

Colts, Chiefs, Ravens, Lions, Packers, Jets, Cowboys and Jaguars will be very tough opponents.

We also can not sleep on the Dolphins, Bills and Vikings.

Shoots even the Bears might be a tough team.

Like Cooper said above, “ one game at a time”.

I’m worried about every single team that we face. I can buy an argument about being more worried about a team at full strength as opposed to a team that’s beat down at the end of the season but Mahomes has proven himself over and over. He can weather a season just fine. In fact… he can have a subpar season (10-6) and -still- win the SB. As a result… they are scary 24/7/365 days a year. I think it’s more important that we win this Sunday but the Chiefs are a better team. By far.

True about K.C. if both teams are healthy (Doubtful) I like the Texans pass rush and secondary against Mahomes. OF course Al Shaair and Harris will have to be healthy.

I really like the Texans secondary this year.

OK, but you're probably alone in that assessment of Colts on the road as toughest matchup of the year. If you had said most important, a case could be made. Though I still would disagree with that.
We’re favored to beat Indy, will most likely be underdogs vs KC. So I’m not expecting to beat the Chiefs, no pressure just play loose and have fun. If Texans have fun this Sunday vs Colts, now that will be something, this is more of a true rivalry, in division matchup.

Nico and AJ have long-strider speed. To me, that is where the comparison stops. AJ and CJ were just unique generational talent at the position. Hoping at the end of his career this will seem like a legit conversation.

Hutchinson will take Noah Brown’s role as Nico insurance going forward:

Hutchinson caught 107 passes for 1,171 yards and six touchdowns in his final season at Iowa State.

“Oh yeah, he’s an all-around athlete,” Diamond said. “I’m pretty sure this year he’s going to be utilized to the max. Strong hands, tall receiver, good feet, real good dude.”

When I look at his college stats, I see a volume possession receiver who moves the chains, not a dynamic playmaker. Had 6 TD's all season and 5 were in the first three weeks. 1 TD in last 9 games. His game over game YPC was pretty consistent in the 10-12 yard range. But he was very consistent.

All that to say, I think we absolutely need that on this team. That is what Woods brought to this team and where X will actually take over. Just not sure that I am seeing the dynamic playmaking to say he potentially replaces Nico. We actually saw that in Brown but he could never stay healthy. It will be interesting to see if X is more Woods or Nico this season.

yeah X and Nico are two completely different WR's...X isnt a Nico replacement...he's more of a compliment WR like Woods was.

That first part is such an important factor. We can all watch tape and be good at the draft part of draft & development but as fans we're totally lost on the development part. Obviously we're not coaches and that's a huge factor, but not having the interviews is a major factor of learning things about the player that we're totally in the dark on and character + other things are major factors in the development part.

Not only that but we get combine numbers and not the GPS ones which imo are much better indicators for players (especially playing speed).
