At first I thought you were kidding and chuckled, but now that I see you are serious all I can do is laugh, and not in a good way. Hoyer is not worthy to carry Schaub's jock strap, and will never equal his career stats or even come close. Hoyer will be lucky to finish out his contract here IMO. If O'Brien sees Hoyer as the long tern solution. It's time for the pink soap for sure.

Now reports are that Brown's injury is a finger injury....then must be a fracture or a ligament tear......Either way, if he does play in the opener, he will be wearing a protective cast or splint.

The Chronicle is reporting this morning that OB, faced with Brown being inactive, will completely reshuffle the OL. Newton will move to the left side, Jeff Adams will move to RT, Jones will move back to LG and Ferentz will play OC. Unchanged is Brooks at RG.
I don't know what to think of this coaching decision. I'll be watching Ferentz to see how he performs against a 1st string defense.

That has been the #2 OL all preseason.
I mentioned moving Jones back to LG & Ferentz to Center after our last game. To me, that line up looked more consistent than Adams at LG. My thinking is that I can plan around slightly inferior yet consistent play, not so easy to do when you can't count on your LG to do his job 3 out of 4 snaps.
Newton also looked pretty strong at LT, not DBrown76 strong, but Duane Brown hasn't played that well in some time now. Still hoping for the big guy to get healthy. I'd rather have him than not.

Adams is NOT a LG! He doesn't have the physical characteristics to play LG. He's not a wide body, he's a tall body. He does not have an immovable base when standing still. He doesn't have the moves to be a LG........he plays like a tackle...........because he IS a TACKLE. Maybe we ought to move him to WIDE RECEIVER. There, at least he could serve a useful purpose as a scarecrow decoy planted in the middle of the field. The birds he would attract could at minimum distract the D!

Didn't Chester Pitts start off at Tackle but moved to guard? In your opinion, did he have the physique of a guard, or a tackle?

Pitts was ~3-4 inches shorter and played at the same weight or heavier than Adams. He played "low" with a wide base. Adams can't seem to stay down and regularly loses the leverage game at guard for that reason. Nothing has shown me anything but a "fail" for Adams at LG.

And with all that imo he was still a better T than G and the move was a mistake.

I also was for Pitts being at T. Before Brown entered the scene, his competition at that position was pretty mediocre.
So it's not just his physical attributes, but improper technique as well?

Just a reminder that Newton is the "swing OT". He goes to LT anytime DB is unable to play. I am ok with any player at any position that OD decides as I see it as giving player experience to all. Hopefully, DB will be ready by game 1 and only concern we will have is LG. I hope a vet OG will be picked up as a better back up than what we have behind X whom I still see starting this season.

I wanted Mallet to start for a year or two and Savage to be the backup and eventual starter. So in many respects I am in both camps. Just can't bring myself to believe in Hoyer the Destroyer. Destroyer of hopes and dreams if you ask me.

My understanding is swing tackle refers to a backup who can play either position not a starter.

my understanding the swing is whomever swings to replace the injured starter. Often it is a backup but as Newton is designated to replace DB, he "swings" from RT to LT.

Google has 2 answers both a backup who can play both sides and several where the term is used, all in the search for a backup for the 2 starters.
Never seen it used for a starter before.

Had to do a double take on that one. I read "Wow I am a transgender!" on the first read. lol
I never seen an offense rotate offensive line men during the season the way we have over the last three years either. Desperate times & all I guess. But I've been thinking of Newton as our swing tackle since he got here.
Even after we made him a starter, we never found anyone else who could play both sides did we? Anytime Brown missed a snap, Newton swung to the other side. Am I wrong about that? Anyone else play LT over the last four years?

Do you not remember Kubiak's 7-man OL rotation that drove us all nuts in that no chemistry could develop?......it was supposedly to keep the OL "fresh" (although part of that was in fact because of question marks concerning the personnel).
Yeah that's the main thing I'm talking about... last three (maybe4) years.

I remember the Ephraim Salaam/Duane Brown rotation Brown's rookie year.
Kubes said it was due to Brown's conditioning but I think it was more a confidence/comfort in a rookie LT thing.
At any rate Brown has obviously turned out to be a damn fine LT.

I blame it all on those Evelyn Woods speed reading classes.
Yep, I can see that. In high school, I took that class and my reading speed increased from 200 words per minute to 50,000 words per minute........problem was that my comprehension dropped from 95% to 25%. They had me repeat the course 2 more times for no additional cost...........my reading speed again increased to 60,000 words per minute while my comprehension continued to drop to 15%...................they finally gave up on me and refunded my parents.

It's all this excessive drafting of defenders that has us too deep at CB and ILB and without even enough interior linemen to make a 1st string.

hmm KJ and KJ2 first rounders and both expected to start; how does that lead to excessive drafting of defenders? Same for ILB as we drafted McKinney round two but when was the last ILB drafted that high...Cush (1st)?

I think you're talking about Tyson Clabo.
He was active for all 16 games, but never played more than 10 snaps in any of them, ending up being in on 99 snaps for the season. Waived by the Texans in May - The Texans actually have $100k in dead money for him this season. Not currently on anyone's roster.
Clavbo played the 2nd half or ore of either the Balt or Jags game at RT, with Newton replacing an injured Brooks at RG. Newton was a revelation at RG, it was if Brooks was still playing RG.

Yeah - I misread my source the first time. He took 71 offensive snaps in week 16 vs. the Ravens. That was the only week he took more than 10 offensive snaps in a game (he also took a few ST snaps).
