I still feel like the City of Houston, Six Flags, and the Texans would benefit mightly if the Astrodome was converted to a Indoor Waterpark and Hotel venue. When Houston host the Super Bowl, Bowl Game or any other large event.....the Hotel/Waterpark in the same parking lot would be a great selling point.
Except for that absestos thingy

I worked for a company that did the safety inspections of the Astrodome after it was closed. The problem with turning the Astrodome into anything is it is completely full of asbestos and after housing people after Katrine and the damage Ike did it has all been disturbed so in order to convert it millions of dollars of clean up and environmental work will need to be done to it. So far no one, city included, is willing to shell out the money.

Edit: Oh the other hand that same asbestos is what keeps them from saying to demo it because it would cost almost as much to demo it as it would to remove the asbestos. Catch 22 if you will.

So a dammed if you do and a dammed if you don't situation? I remember all the asbestos in the Summit.....do you know who did the asbestos removal to get it ready for Lakewood Church?

If they wait 25 more years, will the asbestos kill the Chihuahua sized rats or will they mutate into another species?

Bud is the guy who killed Luv Ya Blue.
Bud is the guy who hired his accountant as GM.
Bud is the guy who threatened to move to Jacksonville and got $60 million in renovations to the dome (courtesy of the tax payers).

If we're waxing nostalgic over Bud, let's tell the whole story.
Let's give Cal some time. Bud had a head start.

Giving O'Brien the GM powers after a 51-7 postseason meltdown won't soon be forgotten. Bud would have fired his ass before Bill even boarded the plane to Houston.

And I don't think anyone was waxing nostalgic over Bud. It was the Houston Oilers that mattered to us. Bud would have been dead by now (obviously), and Amy seems like a much better owner than her dad. I can't say the same about Cal compared to his dad at this point in time.

At least Bud manned up and admitted his mistake in hindsight. He knew that he'd been played by Lanier and Uncle Drayton. He said he should have let the Astros leave first. That was his biggest regret.

Why not rename this thread, "Oilers History" so posters don't get the wrong idea when they click on this page thinking the discussion is about the GM committee and search.

Thing I remember about when the Oilers moved was listening to Bud Adams run down the city of Houston and the Oiler fans for the next couple of years. I wasn't even living here at the time but even then I remember thinking "Wow what an @$$ to run down your long term fan base because they didn't keep paying to come see a team that you were moving." As I said I wasn't living here so I have no real skin in the game when it comes to the oilers but I do have lots of friends that said they would have became Titan fans but they can't forgive Adams for his attitude after the team moved.

Asbestos abatement at the Astrodome was completed in 2014 by ARC Abatement out of Waco.
If that's the case.....back to making the Astrodome into something useful versus watching it deteriorate as a paperweight. Indoor Waterpark and Hotel would be a major attraction and a much needed addition of hotel rooms for major events.
So apparently the person that was pushing for something to be done with the Astrodome lost their election and when Lina Hidalgo took office she stopped all progress and said they were shifting focus. Agree with her or not but that is why the Astrodome is just sitting there these days. On the plus side it was also declared a historical landmark so any demo is off the table without an act of God. Ultimately whether its asbestos or something else the issue still comes down to no one wants to shell out the cash.

Too many of these types of threads for the amount of interest, I suppose. This one probably should have been merged with the other GM thread, or the other way around, early on.

I'm just glad Bob McNair had to look at the Dome every day he went to work and now Cal has to do the same. Atleast they didn't get everything they wanted. Thanks Judge Emmitt.

The Oilers always had great scouts. Ladd had nothing to do with that.

How about the great HCs Herzog hired during his tenure? To take this back to the Texans, they are in a similar position. How can they find a worthwhile HC to come here without stability in the front office? We're living the Oilers all over again.

CO Brocato was a long time scout for the Oilers and later the Titans. Considered responsible for scouting many Oiler and Titan greats. Originally hired in 1974 by Sid Gillman, whose short tenure in Houston was responsible for a lot of the Oilers later successes.

LOL at you trying to credit Ladd Herzog as a football guy. He was Bud's hatchet man and an embarrassment.

He was also over a period that lead to Buffalo 35-3. For that alone Moon shouldn't be in the HOF.

The fact that Herzeg kept Bracato on his staff means he was a pretty smart guy. Fact is I wish the Texans had a scout as good as Bracato on the current staff. Agreed he was Bud's hatchett man. But he was smart enough to put good football people in place (Bracato/Holovak etc...) and let them do their jobs. I wish the McNair's would do this.

Holovak worked for Ladd before Holovak became GM. I'm guessing Holovak hired most of the scouting dept while he worked for Ladd.

I don't know where you're getting your Oiler history. I lived it. Holovak was a long time AFL coach that Adams knew from way back. Adams brought Holovak in after Bum was fired. Herzog knew nothing and no one. Also, Herzog pushed Holovak out in the late 80's, only to see Holovak come back when Ladd was ousted after a series of embarrassments.

What's your point of jocking Herzog? You're dead wrong on this one.

I know my Oilers history very well.

Starting in the 1970-1971 season.

I'm not jocking Herzeg. I'm just pointing out Holovak worked for Herzeg and that lead to the Love you Blue yrs.

Even after they moved, Holovak was still working for the Titans and mentoring GM Floyd Reese. In fact, Holovak is the only front office person in the Titans HOF.

BTW, Herzog is not in their HOF.

Who is running this team? If true, looking like Easterby

Well heck, they just tied everyone to Easterby

As with the friends of Hughes (who are friends of Wolf, Polian and Casserly), those in LaMonte's stable are not necessarily lacking in talent; it so happens that in the 32-team NFL, seven head coaches are LaMonte clients.
Indeed, it's worth noting that two other popular names for the Texans GM job are Chiefs exec Mike Borgonzi and Patriots exec Nick Caserio.

That's worth noting here because Borgonzi and Casario are - you guessed it - LaMonte clients.
So no matter who we hire, it’s going to be “because” Easterby pushed for them.

Well it seems like it's more like his agent than him personally. But I guess he would get a little bit of money for making the agent more money if his client is hired for a raise.

This SI article is conjecture and supposition and no real facts. Just another SI attack on Easterby.
If his agent is tied to everyone. He would likely want to get other clients raises so if on was hired as GM the agent would make more. In return he would provide Easterby a little gift card reward maybe

It's not? It has an SI web address and texansdaily.com links to SI and is affiliated with SI. And the author, Mike Fisher works for SI.
Ah, good call. I just saw Texans Daily no SI stuff. Figured it was just a Texans blogger of some sort, kinda reads like that. Figures they’re all linked in together.

So everything coming out of SI is bs? Because? You say so?

Is that all you have got? That was an excellent job of connecting dots that we don’t get locally or otherwise. No one here brought any of this up. Not even our “insiders”.

Daboll’s offenses finished in the bottom 10 in the league during all 6 of his seasons as OC. This year, his offense is 6th. So, that deserves a shot as a NFL HC? One good season in seven? Yeah, the only reason Daboll is even getting mentioned is his relationship with Easterby

I don’t know the guy so I’m not going to rail on JE personally but I’m not going to defend the turkey either. I just prefer a TRUE house cleaning and keeping him around IMO is counterproductive to cleaning house. Cal feels otherwise and that’s why I still don’t trust they’ll get it right.

Daboll's name has been brought up here on this board the day BO'b was fired.

I don't recall saying everything out of SI is BS. I believe I have been fairly specific as it applies to Easterby's character assassination. Because it is and has been. For the time being that is all I got regarding SI, PFT, Easterby and Palcic....stay tuned I doubt they are finished. The author says he can't guarantee any interviews.

The piece is full of speculation and innuendo and more Easterby attacks only from a different assassin and angle. It is the SI, PFT, NBC death of Easterby by a 1000 cuts. By all accounts from the authors perspective Eliot Wolf will be the next GM anyways because Hughes loves him some Ron Wolf and Hughes loves kissing that Ron Wolf ass. That's if you want to take the author comments at face value. I don't, I just see it as another SI Easterby assassin taking his turn with scalpel in hand.

They wont be finished until after Easterby is gone. Hopefully this will happen during a full housecleaning.
