Texans random thought of the day

Some people wanted to give Mills 4 years. I say if Stroud doesn’t improve at the end of this season or next then he’s probably is who he is. But I want to see him with a new OC though. I don’t think Slowick is good.
Problem is they knew that (about Slowick) when they hired him. He had no experience as an offensive playcaller & very little as an offensive coach. There's going to be a learning curve. Looked like they were off to a great start last year.

The question is do they think he can get on top of this & be the guy they thought he was going to be. Same way we're thinking about Cj.

As you alluded to with Slowick, it was truly uncertain because there was no prior history of his running an offense at any level. At least with CJ, we've seen him play the position at a high level, even if it was only at the collegiate level. In my opinion, both will eventually excel, but my bet is on CJ doing so first. To the bolded, that rarely aligns.

Yes and can Stroud survive while Slowik learns to excel? Someone needs to tell Slowik "you have a slow wick to turn this around. The candle be burning. "
It is probably too late but I need to see a dominating win versus Tennessee and then a playoff game that ends with fans applauding and complimenting the play of our players and the decision of our coaches. A win would be nice but these two things would at least settle my stomach a wee bit.

Texans better start looking like a playoff team next Sunday or they haven't got a ghost of a chance against the better teams - especially if they look like they did on Christmas day.

On to the mighty 3-12 Titans.;............with the worst record in the NFL , looking at the 417 points scored against them. It will be difficult to make anything positive about a win. The same will not be the case if lord help us, the Texans were to lose.
The Titans put up 32 against the Texans defense last month and beat them. I 100% think it's (a loss) going to happen again, except I don't think the Texans will be able to score 29 points again. The offense is as broken as it's quarterback. They do nothing consistently well.

How come people aren't comparing Ryans to BOB?

They're basically the same HC only on opposite sides of the ball.
How you figure? Ryan's had a plan, he drafted players to fit that plan, he taught them his plan, & they've kicked but going against everyone except the MVP 1a & 1b (Lamar Jackson & Derrick Henry).

BO'b couldn't build an offense to save his life if not for Mr EvenWhenImNotopenImOpen & a Babyoiled QB.

Man, them Titans better be thinking about draft slots.

Should be two teams trying to give the game away. Titans, because they want to lock up the #1 overall pick & the Texans because it's what we do.

Fingers pointing all over the place................none of the characters in this "play" are without significant blame, including Stroud who is apparently the only one truly being given a pass.

Houston Texans are just as close to ruining CJ Stroud as they are to taking advantage of his championship window

Of all the dreadful AFC South seasons in 2024, Houston's was the hardest to stomach.
"And then there’s the Texans. They won the division without breaking much of a sweat. They have a championship-caliber defense. And yet, there’s a very strong argument to be made that Houston has had the most disappointing and painful season of anybody in the division."

Exactly. Watching this offense is downright painful. Who wants to spend three hours enduring their team’s offense moving in reverse—whether it’s from negative run plays, erratic throws by the quarterback, or mindless penalties like a false start on the line? For the first two-thirds of the season, my focus was on Tunsil and the rest of the offensive line repeatedly squandering scoring opportunities with inexcusable penalties and baffling play-calling.

Recently, the line has shown some improvement—playing smarter and managing to frustrate me a bit less. I've even grown numb to Slowik's predictable shortcomings. But what’s hardest to stomach is Stroud’s decline. His performance and body language have been troubling, to say the least. Chris Long mentioned mid-season that Stroud might be a lost cause for 2024, and since then, it seems like he’s regressed even further.

Honestly, I wish the AFC South was a competent division. If the Texans faced real competition, they’d likely be languishing at the bottom of the standings, forcing some much-needed changes. Instead, the mediocrity of the division masks—or at least minimizes by comparison—the glaring flaws of this team. In a stronger division, Slowik and the offensive line coach would’ve been fired long ago. Maybe that would have slowed down or even stopped Stroud's tailspin.

How come people aren't comparing Caserio to Ricky?

They're basically the same GM except one wears a sweater vest.
Nope, they operate in totally different manners. One works with his HC's to get the players the HC wants. The other backstabs his HC friend who got him the GM job in the back.

One trades up in the draft instead of sitting there and letting his guy get drafted. Also when was the last time you can remember when RS added a Mixon/Diggs/Hunter in the same offseason, or drafted guys as good as /Collins/Bullock in the 3rd rd? Or for that matter drafted guys like Lassiter/Fisher in the 2nd rd?

They're as an org at the exact same place they've always been, a very talented team with QB issues. Like I've asked before, when is the last time fans have been happy with the Texans OC/offense. Remember when RS got Kubiak fired fans weren't happy with his offense. I'll answer the question for you, at least a decade, maybe longer.

How many players hate Cap? I mean players he coach?
I'm sure there are some.

How many players hated BOB/Kubiak? I'm sure there were some. Hopkins hating him should be worn as a badge of honor. Clemson trash, BTW, RS sure did love him some Clemson/South Carolina trash. Wonder how that thought process took place?

Sophomore slumps for sure, plus the beaten he’s encountered all season long. Hopefully he’s not David Carr’d.
As what does that mean? Carr had one of the slowest releases ever seen in the league. Couple that with his work ethic and guys saying he didn’t know the plays. Carr got sacked a lot. He also held on to the ball as well and contributed to that.

J Jo and Manning were signed in 2011.

Yeah, except what happened in the 2nd half of last weeks game? The Detroit game etc.... SMH

Stroud hasn't been good and my point is there's been plays there to be made most weeks and CJ's not making them.

Seems a lot like the BOB/Kubiak teams IMHO.

Get an OC that knows what’s up! Slowick can’t adapt.
Mixon, Nico, Tank, Diggs, Schultz (when all healthy and on the field)
The Texans skill players are above average.
Coaching not so much
How often have they all been together on the field? What was their record when they were on the field together. Was their OL or QB above avg? Now if you want to say the QB needs a new OC because they cant relate to each other I will agree with you. But how come they related last yr but cant relate this yr? I'm all for getting a new OC and OL coach with experience and a successful track record. That way by this time next yr we will know what Stroud is. Of course if CJ does poorly we will still have the same arguments we had with Carr.

If the Ravens lose their final game and Pittsburgh wins, then the Texans will host the Ravens.

I hope that happens because there’s NO WAY the Texans will lose to the Ravens again. Right?!

Just kidding. I hope they play the Ravens again because they’ll get humiliated on national television and maybe, just maybe that will be enough to get half the coaching fired.

At times this season I've seen an opposing player say they were able to take advantage of a play by listening to the Texans communicate on offense or defense. I'm sure communications can be decoded for any team if analyzed but it makes me appreciate "382 X Stick Looky" and "Spider 2 Y Banana"...bring back Chucky!

I am unsure how much offensive coordinator had to do with success of 2023. I think Stroud's skills and ability and being unknown basically to our NFL opponents was the key to the success of 10 and 7. This year the skills and ability of our quarterback has been impacted by the overwhelming hits he has taken. We should not focus only on sacks but also quarterback hits which are two different things.

Stroud "carried" the team with Nico coming into his own. Anderson DROY+ RB and some defensive players playing above expectations.
Anderson and Hunter 11 sacks and 12 this year.

Difference ? OC hasn't adapted to opponents having video of Stroud and OL issues.
