Texans random thought of the day

Frustrating thing about this team, is they could just as easily run the gauntlet without a loss-- or they could completely implode and not win 1 game & miss out on the playoffs.
I think they are more than capable of option A... I think the team thinks KNOWS they are... I just hope they all want it for eachother more than its perceived they want it for themselves.
Time to rock n roll fellas...

I really thought that it was Hannah who was queen of Houston.

Not sorry - Beyoncé may be from Houston but she isn’t the queen of Houston. She doesn’t even live here I think.

Even though Stroud's passer rating has dipped from his first season (100.8) to his second (87.9), he ranks 10th in passing yards (3,117) this season for an offense that is 11th in scoring (23.7 points per game). But the pieces around Stroud have helped develop him into a quarterback who can lead the Texans to playoff contention yearly.
"[Stroud's] had a really good year," Caserio said ahead of the Texans' Week 14 bye. "He's fourth in the league in yards, or fourth in completions. I mean, he's ahead of [Chiefs QB Patrick] Mahomes in some categories [such as yards]. ... He's made a lot of progress."
Stroud has been sacked 41 times, second most, and pressured on 39.5% of his dropbacks, third most, and his time to pressure is 2.57, fourth fastest among starters.

Tunsil is the bright spot. He's eighth in pass block win rate (92%) among left tackles and 14th among tackles, according to ESPN Analytics. Mason, Scruggs and Green have given up 22 sacks combined, and they have struggled with communication on blocking stunts. Green landed on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury after Week 9, so Scruggs has shifted to left guard and Jarrett Paterson became the starting center.

Is Kenyon Green practicing with the starters? If so, they must really not like Kendrick Green.
Doesn't say much for our RG either right!?😂
I think they have to get him some first team reps to bring up to speed quickly.
Like I been saying our line sucks.
We need a change of Oline coach for starters - then assess our requirements along that line. Except of course, it wouldn't hurt to bring in a talented draftee somewhere along the line.

I think they need to figure out their identity. You’d think coming from a Kubshanistan background Slowik would have one but he’s mixed in a variety of concepts as if actively trying to find what the line cannot do the most!

The IOL is the biggest issue, but honestly if all 5 were somehow magically swapped out with 5 random guys from the Little Sisters of the Poor, I'd probably make that swap.

Sometimes, you just get tired of seeing your crap week after week, so you want some new crap to complain about.

In short, as Thorn would say...we're screwed. It doesn't matter who we plug in on this line. The whole is weaker than the parts...and the parts aren't awe-inspiring.

While doing that, it would be helpful if they could learn to block then they could say they had a blocking identity.

What BS is this???
"The only thing that matters was making that kid happy," he said Thursday. "He ain't never going to forget that moment. So that's all that matters to me. It's cool. I'll pay the fine."
"It's for the kids," he said. "I seen he was screaming and was thinking, 'Here you go, big dog. Here's the ball.'"
"I guess they think you're going to poke somebody in the eye or something," he said.

Collins didn't share the exact amount of the fine but said it was about $5,000.

He added that he plans to appeal.

Man…past the top two, the depth at corner is non—existent. Luckily, sting has been golden this year, but we all know his history. Nick needs to sign a quality depth guy in fa, plus draft a corner in the draft.

Texans.com is terrible at keeping things updated. I have no idea why they only have 51 players listed on their roster.

I had him going to the Texans in several mocks and you said he was too slow. Speed is great and all and it's a plus if you have exceptional speed, but there's a reason why track stars don't always make good football players. Jerry Rice is one of many, many examples of guys with average speed making it big.
You got one right, are we going to get into a is this water cold vs deep conversation?

I'm looking forward to your future mocks/evals.

I didn't mock him to the Texans but not because I thought he was bad or anything. I had my eye on other targets.

Just messin with you. I don’t watch near the amount of film as you do, so I will cede to you and others that do really get into details. I might watch some highlight reels, and the rest of is a lot of reading up on guys, their pluses and minuses and trying to match them to a Texans need or body type. I go a lot by feel and instinct more than anything but honestly I do as well as anyone. I nailed Duane Brown back In the day for example. I’ve also missed my fair share. I always appreciate what you, Beerlover, Badboy and a number of others do. Have a happy weekend!

BTW, Lassiter is better than I thought he would be. So while I nailed the pick, I had him playing mostly inside. But he has been excellent outside, and I assume that he will stay there for now. Later in his career, I could see a Kareem Jackson like move to safety, but for a few years…he should be roaming around as an outside corner. I wouldn’t rule out a move inside, but with Pitre here…doesn’t appear to be in the cards.

I've got to wonder as I watch the Lions/Bills game, the game is Buffalo 48 Lions 35 (42 now), are the Texans defense that good? Between the two quarterbacks in that game, they have over 800 yards passing and the Texans did a great job holding both of them down.

How good could this team be if only the offense could get things going?
A: No
B: Thats your Superbowl matchup
C: Nowhere near the AFCCG

IMO, the D is championship level...
Special teams are good enough. Most of the time we're not losing because ST blew it.
The offense NEEDS to figure something out... This team would be unstoppable with just a slightly better offense.

If the offense could become avg this team would be true SB contenders. The defense is that good.

This team reminds me of those 2015-2016 Texans playoff teams.

Those teams had a championship level defense but the Hoyer/Mallett and Osweiller led offenses capped their ceiling. Those teams didn’t have the QB but they still had another holdovers from the Kubiak OL to have mediocre protection.

This team has the QB but the protection is awful. Thus, ceiling is capped.

The QB isn't playing that much better this yr than Osweiller did.

18-22 range in QB play IMHO.

Maybe CJ needs a little tough love and/or shock therapy. Ask him to take a game off and send Mills out as the starter. A game for reflection and away from the fray. It could be a lot to ask, but maybe it helps CJ get fired up….especially if Mills were to have a little success moving the offense.

Hope this was tongue-in-cheek. One, CJ needs to face these next 2 teams because he'll likely see one or both next month. And two, Mills ain't having success moving anything.

I have a crazy idea for the Texans next OC… but maybe it’s not so crazy. I think they should let Frank Ross have the opportunity. He’s already proven to be elite as a ST coach turning the Texans ST unit into one of if not the best in the league each year he’s been here.

He played college football at Nick Caserio’s alma mater John Carroll and is the all time receptions leader.

Like Slowik, he has experience in a variety of roles (scouting, offense and ST). Watching him on the sidelines and interviews you can just tell he’s a future HC in this league. I think he’ll be successful in any role the team gives him and right now no unit needs more help than the offense.

Frank Ross for OC 2025!

Exactly! They made those two QBs look bad… made Levis look like the second coming of (pick a hall of famer) when we played them. Now that tool has been benched for Rudolph!! So pissed we lost that game!
Win that one and you’re looking the 3 seed straight in the face! 🤦‍♂️

My idea is to put Kubiak on the payroll to mentor someone. Whether it’s Ross or Slowik.

What if Klint Kubiak ends up out of work due to the Saints’ having fired Dennis Allen? Although lets all come to terms with the fact that the Texans ended up with a comparable record against a thougher Strength of Schedule which means we wont be moving on from Slowick.

Strausser meanwhile? Munchak, what’s the deal there, a Houston pro who chose Tennessee? Any room at the inn?

I’m also seeing a lot of talk of draft prospects popping up in other threads, my thought is that Fisher takes on RT next season, hopefully shifts across to LT the season after, so need to draft a developmental RT this draft coming. Need to dip into FA at one of the IOL positions and draft the best possible available with another, with the possibility of moving Patterson to RG depending how those chips fall or giving him time to develop at Center. That’s 2 of my top 3 picks non-negotiable.

Developmental DE probably needs to be another high priority as I don’t see how we re-up 55 the following year due to other priorities, and no DE can do it without another threat opposite so Anderson can’t do it alone.

Stuff like your CB3, SS, RB2, WR2/3 will have to wait until after those issues are tidied up. DeMeco has shown an ability to turn water into wine at DT so we will have to scrape the bargain bin there again after choosing who to offer a bigger contract to out of this years’ success stories.

DE Derek Barnett is my choice now to extend and follow Hunter although it is not out of the realm of impossibility that after this season, Danielle Hunter could choose to sign a Team friendly extension. I keep hoping that Horton will be that developmental end that you refer to. I am of the mindset of if needed, going for our Anderson book end in the 2026 draft.

What Horton has been able to accomplish coming off of cancer is amazing. He has a legitimate rotational role on one of the best D Lines in the league and is carving out a role on ST (made a great block to spring Ogunbowale loose on the fake punt). His ability to impact ST puts him ahead of Jerry Hughes in the DE rotation.

He’s been more of a factor than Metchie but a year behind his recovery timeline. I can’t wait to see what he brings to the team next season.
