For starters they have improved their draft capital immensely and both will be dramatically better because of it. Not to mention the enormous amount of salary cap they managed to accumulate. It won't be long before the Urban Meyer, Trevor Lawrence, Robert Saleh and Zach Wilson are kicking some Texans butt.
Again. They’ve been in this position before. Didn’t do much with it.

I honestly thought the credit card example was more of a metaphor than an actual example. :um:

The NFL is certainly unlike any other business. Anti-trust exemptions. Publicly funded stadiums. Guaranteed revenue for all franchises. A minor league system with the NCAA that they do not have to pay for. Hero worship complex by society in general. Double standards for entertainers in general, especially if they are really good at passing, catching, & avoiding tackles while running. Loyal customer bases regardless of the product on the field.

Maybe a better metaphor would be a credit card paid by a vast trust fund left by a former Goldman Sachs executive. . .
Exactly, it was a metaphor for reckless spending.

Pre Meyer and Saleh. You're missing the point, yes they have been there before which proves once again that embracing the suck improves draft capital and salary cap. Their failure was the ability to capitalize. Based on the situations today, I like Douglas and Saleh, Meyer and Baalke better than I do Caserio and Culley.

I don't think Caserio was spending like the new and unproven GM you're alluding to. He was handed a sack of shite and told to make a wedding cake.
In addition Caserio was handed $17MM salary cap gift when JJ walked out the door. Nick still felt the need to borrowed over $30MM from 2022 and 2023 salary caps to sign a bunch of 1 yr backups that make no improvements to the team. Caserio has no long term vision, is spending and wasting money frivolously with a void of understanding how to put out a dumpster fire and rebuild the dumpster.

Before Caserio it was the triumvirate of MASSIVE FAIL Cal, O'Brien and Easterby. Need I remind you that is was Cal, O'Brien and Easterby were all in agreement that Nick Caserio was their BEST option. Let me say that again, it was Cal, O'Brien and Easterby, the architects of MASSIVE FAIL who thought Caserio was the best man for the job. Let that sink in for a minute. Are you sure you want to put all of your confidence behind the MASSIVE FAIL of Cal, O'Brien and Easterby decision making? Count me out!

THE TEXANS ARE IN CHAOS. Their starting quarterback is facing more than a dozen sexual misconduct lawsuits. The franchise is being run by a former Patriots team chaplain who has almost zero football experience and lied on his resume. The owner inherited the team from his father and was derisively referred to by some in the front office as “Tommy Boy.” This team isn’t a dumpster fire; it’s an inferno at the dumpster factory. The only good news is that new GM Nick Caserio can draft basically any position, because Houston needs reinforcements at all of them.

You make your case as a matter of fact.....yet absolutely no off-season, pre-season or season having been played. As another fact, the Watson saga and its repercussions haven't even played out. I know you're a numbers guy but I'll stick with Caserio's direction to not only figure out this season but 2022 and 2023 as well. I'll hold my early judgement until about mid-season. Mid-term will roll around about 2022 mid-season, and the long-term judgement will happen mid-season 2023.

Once you embrace the suck it becomes a part of you. It’s like thinking you can flip a switch.

In one way or another the Texans have been disappointing for twenty years. Why would they change now? A few bright spots every now and then doesn't make up for the horseshit the Texans have been.

Starting with the name of the damn team.

Can’t argue with the team name.

But the Texans always seem to hit rock bottom, then bounce back to win a few divisional banners, and then drop back down to the gutter.

That we are consistent in. Will we ever win the big one?

Ask me after Brady retires.

Be careful, my friend. Your inference that Jack Easterby is has zero football experience and is a lying preacher is irrelevant, regardless of the body of evidence against him. :thud:

Obviously, Sport Illustrated is nothing but a sports version of National Inquirer, Andre Johnson is a Watson homer and his insider perspective meaningless, and Jack's lack of experience on personnel as confirmed by Bill Belichick is merely shade thrown on the Savior of H-Town© , the one man that will righteously save this city from its sins and turn the Houston Texans into a championship dynasty!

Of course, I'm just hung up on the truth, so take my words with a grain of salt. :stirpot:

I dont trust the media, in real life or sports. Particularly after the what they did to get Luhnow blackballed.

AJ backed the wrong horse. I notice we haven't heard much from AJ lately. I thought Caserio is now handling personnel.

We never heard much from AJ before all of this stuff. The fact that he said anything was significant. His statements were much deeper than just the Watson holdout.

So you don't trust the media but you believe everything the Texans front office says in response to justified criticism? :ok:

You might have a valid point here. When asked about Easterby's role, Cal and Caserio always respond with Jack is talented, he's gifted. He has several responsibilities. He is a key player and he is great at serving the organization. They have yet to answer exactly what Jack does.

More reason than ever to distrust Casino on anything. Christ, the Texans are crap from top to bottom. LOL

That's basically my point. :hmmm:

What is the purpose of his massive salary with the Texans? There are many negative examples about him, but very few positives (and absolutely nothing indicating that he's qualified in any sort of way to be a high level executive of any corporation, much less an NFL franchise).

And since I do not inherently trust anything this organization does these days, the employment of a lying preacher at a high position is also subject to critical analysis.

I just want our football franchise to be run like successful football teams. I know that's a lot to ask or expect as a fan.

I really need to learn to just embrace the suck and not ask questions. lol :bubble:

Yea. Heard that one time and time again.

One good year doesn’t make a career.

I don’t get the logic there.

BTW - Rex Grossman says hello.
I guess I don't get the logic of expecting anyone to bat a 1,000. idonno:

He was paid that massive salary to come in and audit all areas of the Texans org and help deliver Caserio to run the football opps. IMHO

Easterby did his job and that's why so many long time employees are upset or gone. The Texans FO had a environment of sexual harassment that dated back through the RS yr and continued through the Gaine yrs.

Where Easterby failed was he wasn't able to immediately extract Caserio from Foxboro and this lead to all of the mistrust with BOB/Easterby who were both put in situations they weren't qualified to handle because Cal Cucked to Kraft is a big reason the Texans org is where it is today. None of the things probably would've happened if Cal would've fought for Caserio last offseason. So in a way Cal is getting what he deserves for not growing a pair.

They got him from the Patriots. Yeah, probably misused him a bit (judging by reported rumors) but that’s the way it goes.

position coaches from other teams are hired with a promotion. Personnel guys are hired from other teams with a promotion. The character coach was hired from another team with a promotion.

Elway joined the Broncos as director of personnel development. Pretty similar to Easterby’s role when he joined the Texans. He was promoted to EVP of football operations, just like Easterby. & he was basically a glorified consultant.

Elway connived his way into the GM position.

Easterby was made interim GM for a short time.

I’m not saying Easterby was going to take over the best defense in the world & win a Super Bowl with Gary Kubiak. I’m just saying that’s the track & it makes sense.

We hired Easterby as the head of team development. That led to EVP of football operations. That put him in position for interim GM.

Basically I’m saying these owners hire who they want for whatever they want & I think it’s ridiculous to question his “qualifications” as if there’s one way, a right way to do it.

You brought up the AFC Championship game because you thought gave validation in some way. It doesn’t. Rex Grossman = Blake Bortles. Both amounted to disappointment. Are we supposed to throw them a parade because both got farther than the Texans? Let me know because we need to have a parade for David Carr too.

It’s funny to see people try to be (not you) a self proclaimed prognosticator when in actuality they come across as a splatter basket.

Maybe we can draft a player like Bortles. He was the next great thing according to some around here.
You know every time I see your mention of Blake Bortles I know I won because you don't have anything else. You've been reduced to a discussion from 7 years ago in order to try and have some relevance. And it is kind of juvenile.. Looking back the Texans would've been so much better off had they drafted Bortles:

In 2015 they wouldn't of had to go thru the Hoyer and Mallett carousel while Bortles had more TD passes.

In 2016 you wouldn't of had to go through that awful Osweiler fiasco, saved tons of money and draft picks too while BB had 35 TDs.

In 2017 Bortles may have been able to get the Texans to the AFC Championship game like he did the Jags. A place the Texans have never been. It would've also stopped you from drafting a perverted sexual deviate as the face of the franchise.

Not to mention that Bortles 103 TDs were much more productive than Clowney's 32 sacks.

If you and the Texans had listened to me 7 years ago, you know I could have saved you 6 years of heart ache with Bill O'Brien. I said O'Brien was a very bad idea and yet you were such a cheerleader. I said at the time OB would fail like the 8 Belichick assistants who went before him. Who knew my clairvoyance would've seen that Blake Bortles would've been so much better option and that my advice would've prevented the Bill O'Brien dumpster fire.

I think I will favorite this post and every time you want to have a 7 year old Bortles discussion I can copy and paste this for you again. :)

Good point about Bortles. Smith should have traded back but perhaps any deal offers may have been miserly.
Hindsight is a useless tool in the scenario you paint.
Btw, blowing one's own horn is not a good look.

Lol. You stayed up all night typing this didn’t you? I can tell I am in your head. It’s ok. Your post is nothing but a repetitive ramble built on inaccuracies and misdirection. Sort of how Bortles throws. You come here to pound the table on every thing the Texans do wrong. You have proven in the past you are not a fan of the Texans. You left when Icak owned you and came back when you saw he was gone. Kinda cowardly...The reason you don’t like the Bortles discussion because it exposes you.

Save my post. Makes no difference to me. Kinda weird but whatever. Don’t mind being called a cheerleader. I’m a Texans fan. Keep it coming.

Your spin has big flaws:

1. You assume O’Brein would have been able to have the same success as the Jaguars would have done with Bortles. That is a huge leap of faith. OB doesn’t know QBs.

2. Bortles had a league high 75 interceptions during his starting career. Almost as much as his TDS he threw. Horrible. Name a QB who threw for more interceptions during that time.

3. In Bortles first three years he fumbled the ball 29 times. Almost as much as Clowney’s sacks. Horrible.

4. In 5 short years of playing Bortles is tied at 34 for the 13 pick sixes. Joey Harrington and Matt Schaub are at 14. He got so high in such a short amount of time the DEA raided his house.

5. Bortling. That’s what Bortles created. A word to describe bad throws, bad decisions, turnovers, and interceptions. Bortles is nothing but a poor decision maker, inaccurate, and folds under pressure.

6. The Texans mistake wasn’t in the draft. Their mistake is hiring OB. Had he never happened in Texas we would never had the QB carousels we had.

7. Your assumption that drafting Bortles would have kept us off the QB carousel isn’t correct. He would have been a draft bust for us. Nothing more.

8. And you can’t fault the Texans for hiring OB. He was highly touted and regarded as the top coach to hire that year. The mistake is not firing him when Rick Smith stepped down.

Please. Try again.

There were lots of folks around here that were clamoring for Vince Young and Johnny Manziel, too. Bortles achieved more than either of them, but I have yet to see anyone held to account for arguing for either of those two fools.

I didn't realize that "player drafted by a perpetual shitty franchise" was a litmus test. Bortles, and even Carr, might have had different careers if drafted by better organizations.

My point, and just an opinion, is there is animosity toward a poster so this one time that he supported a player is consistently used against him.

Elway joined the Broncos as director of personnel development. Pretty similar to Easterby’s role when he joined the Texans. He was promoted to EVP of football operations, just like Easterby. & he was basically a glorified consultant.
I'll give you the Stretch Armstrong award for this one.
StretchArmstrong.jpg

To connect John Elway and Jack Easterby is a stretch that I honestly doubt you believe, but are willing to go through extraordinary lengths to justify the Texans hire.

And it's a stretch so devoid of logic and reason that all I can do is arrive at is a respectful agreement to disagree. :handshake:

You may have the last word, because honestly, I don't really care much for, or about, Jack Easterby. He's just another pimple on an organization riddled with severe acne.
