Andre Johnson to sign 1-day contract, retire as a Texan
Mitch Sanderson Apr 17, 2017 3:18 PM
After announcing plans to retire in November, receiver Andre Johnson will sign a one-day contract with the Houston Texans on Wednesday so he can officially finish his career with the team.

Johnson played the first 12 years of his career with the Texans after they drafted him third overall in 2003.

More to come.

The Browns are seriously pursuing a trade partner to trade up and take their #1 pick..........sounds like a perfect opportunity for Smith to give away all of this year's picks and what's left of next year's. I'm sure that somehow the Texans can make this into the smartest deal of the century only second to the Osweiler trade.

If the Browns want a QB all they have to do is trade the #1 pick for Jimmy G. He's better than any QB in this draft. Then if they want Garrett badly they can use their #12 and two two's plus the Texans 2018 2nd and trade with San Fran who said they're open for business at #2.

This is what I would do, add the best QB you can get and a premium pass rusher and the foundation is laid for a bright future for the Browns. This kinda stuff has a real chance to go down on draft night.

Who is NE going to take at #1 overall if not Garrett?

Has anyone considered, if the Browns were to trade for G, then there is a possibility that all the Qb's could be on the board at 1-25.

Being very optimistic about the 2017 Texans is like thinking your favorite politician really can save the world.

Time to wake up.

A couple big names in this years draft have had diluted samples in their urinalysis, that's a great thing for us at 25. I'd be real tempted if Jabrill Peppers is on the board at 25. He being the latest diluted sample. Obviously if my top ranked OT is off the board.

Texans enlist astronauts to announce Day 3 picks from space
Michael McClymont Apr 25, 2017 10:26 AM
The NFL will allow fans and celebrities to participate in the 2017 NFL Draft by announcing team picks on Day 3. The Houston Texans are taking it up a notch by tabbing astronauts from the International Space Station and Space Center to announce their picks on Saturday - from outer space.

Astronaut Peggy Whitson and former astronaut Scott Kelly will announce the Texans' fourth- and fifth-round draft picks, according to Mark Berman of FOX26.

Now that's a cool feature that surely can't be topped, unless a team makes a pick from Uran ... never mind.

Here's our new right tackle.

Houston Texans: Quarterback is a need, but the team won't reach to draft one. A source in the front office said cornerback, offensive tackle and quarterback are where they expect to go in Round 1. Gareon Conley and Marlon Humphrey would be ideal fits in this defense.

Per Matt Miller of Bleacher Report

No thanks on Humphrey. He gets beat deep way too often. That will only get worse in the pros. Great athlete with good skills but that's a bad problem to have for a 1st round CB. Wouldn't cry if we took him in the 2nd.

I'd love to have Conley. He's my #1 CB. The board has to be right though. A lot of OTs and QBs would have to go before us for him to be there.

My politician does not have to save world nor Texans win Super Bowl. A much improved world with hope for future and Texans being a final four team with a solid roster for future would be worth the optimism.

"Our draft picks....from SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE!"

Too much pageantry for the offseason, not enough substance.

Its like watching Democrats and Republicans fight back and fourth. A lot of noise, nothing of true value being said and its nothing more than a distraction from the REAL issues.

Report: 1st-round prospect Gareon Conley accused of rape, denies allegation
Dan Wilkins Apr 25, 2017 12:24 PM
A woman accused NFL draft prospect Gareon Conley of raping her in a Cleveland hotel April 9, according to a police report obtained by TMZ Sports.

In the report, a 23-year-old woman says she met Conley in an elevator and went back to his hotel room. According to her account, she was asked to join him and two other people in a sexual act but declined, offering to watch instead.

The woman says Conley then unbuttoned her pants and had sex with her, though she told him to stop and said it hurt, and then kicked her out of the hotel room afterward.

In her 911 call, the woman described the man as "a black male who wouldn't take his sunglasses off and had an Ohio State tattoo on his left forearm." She said she went to the hospital and had a rape kit collected. Afterward, according to the report, she refused an interview with an officer, saying "her dignity was stripped from her in a matter of minutes," and subsequently did not speak to police.

Two friends of Conley's told police nothing happened between Conley and the woman, suggesting she was upset that she'd been sent away from the room.

Conley's attorney described the allegations as "ludicrous and ridiculous" to Cleveland19.

Police are investigating but no charges have been filed. They told TMZ that the results from the rape kit are not in.

Conley, who starred at Ohio State, has widely been considered a likely first-round pick looking ahead to Thursday's draft.

Well, at least some of our picks will not be overcome by commercials

Of course it's all 'theater'.
It's 'theater' since 1988 when the NFL switched it from mid-week to the weekend so the viewing audience would increase.

First round picks have 10 minutes, so more likely 3 hours in with a maximum of 4.

True! 10pm EST is my bed time. Guess I'm SOL unless we trade up.
I have a nice 8 hour drive up to Toronto tomorrow, I'll have to catch up before heading out.

I would imagine sometime between 1030 and 11 tonight we'll find out. I'll probably be pretty zoned out by then. LOL

Report: Cutler wanted to play for Texans, they wouldn't return his calls
David P. Woods Apr 29, 2017 1:37 PM
Jay Cutler expressed interest in playing for the Houston Texans but the team wouldn't return the veteran quarterback's phone calls, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said on television Saturday.

It's a surprising report, as Cutler hasn't publicly demonstrated any interest in continuing his playing career since the Chicago Bears cut him.

A photo of Cutler's nude rear end was interpreted by some to be a retirement announcement, and there were recent reports that he was moving to Nashville with his wife Kristin Cavallari - and not to join the Tennessee Titans.

The Texans needed a quarterback after trading away Brock Osweiler, but Cutler would have been an awkward personality fit with Texans head coach Bill O'Brien.

With the Texans filling their need at quarterback by drafting Deshaun Watson in the first round, and with all other quarterbacking vacancies seemingly filled, we truly may have seen the last of Cutler on an NFL field.

That's pretty shtty... what's so hard about returning a phone call, telling him thanks but no thanks.

I believe it was Terrel Davis, on the NFL network, just picked the Texans as his choice for having an outstanding draft.

The Texans have invited Boston College quarterback Patrick Towles to their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

He played for Boston College last season as a graduate transfer, previously playing at Kentucky.

He passed for 1,730 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Towles rushed for 294 yards last season and also caught two passes, one for a touchdown on a trick play against Maryland.

Towles was a two-year starter at Kentucky who passed for 5,099 yards, 24 touchdowns and 24 interceptions before losing his starting job. He rushed for 353 yards and 11 scores.

Towles was a Parade Magazine All-American in high school, Mr. Football in Kentucky and the Gatorade Player of the Year in his state.

His grandfather is Hall of Fame pitcher and U.S. Senator Jim Bunning.

Don't know if the offseason schedule has been posted.

The team is currently in the Phase 2, voluntary, program. This consists of on- field workouts involving individual player instruction and drills. Team practice can only be conducted on a "separates" basis - that is, no live contact or offense vs defense.

Phase 2 is every week through May 19.

Three day Rookie Camp is May 12 - 14.

Phase 3 OTA's start May 22 (voluntary):
May 22 - May 23, May 25
May 30 - May 31, June 1
June 5 - 6, June 8 - 9

Mandatory OTA June 13 - 15

For phase 3 OTA's, no live contact, but 7 on 7; 9 on 7; and 11 on 11 are permitted.

Training camp starts mid-July.

Texans GM denies report of not returning Cutler's calls
Arun Srinivasan May 3, 2017 5:59 PM
Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith denied the veracity of a report stating that his team wouldn't return Jay Cutler's phone calls when the former Chicago Bears quarterback inquired about playing this fall.

Cutler was released by the Bears on March 9 and hasn't publicly stated any intent to suit up for the 2017 season.

Smith vehemently denied the accuracy of the report on Wednesday.

"I don't know why that was reported. That's just not true. I will tell you that that is not true. I will answer that one," Smith said during an appearance on ESPN's Stephen A. Smith's radio show.

The Texans traded up to the No. 12 spot in the 2017 NFL Draft to select Deshaun Watson out of Clemson, minimizing the need to acquire another veteran quarterback. Smith and Texans head coach Bill O'Brien also revealed that Tom Savage will be the starting quarterback for the upcoming season.

Cutler has thrown 208 touchdowns over the course of his career and it remains possible that he gets signed on a team-friendly deal this summer.

So does that mean he did return Cutler's phone call or did Jay call the Houston Texans Chicken & Grits?

Football is a contact sport. You're not gonna find many players with a squeaky clean bill of health.
No.
Basketball is a 'contact sport'.

Football is a COLLISION sport.

But you're right, starters (and face it, nobody is drafting 2nd & 3rd stringers) with clean bills of health are going to be few and far between.

I guess there's no news coming out of NRG
stadium about the phase 2 voluntary workouts. Not even something as basic as who's here and participating.

I'd like reports on the OL'men. Of course there's no contact, but they're doing personal drills and instruction. Who's taking instruction at RT?

Are Mancz, Allen and Martin here?

Is there a news blackout?
