Texans random thought of the day

I wouldn’t be all that surprised if they give Fisher or even Howard a shot at LT.

I know Howard’s career seems like it kind of peaked but he was always an LT playing either across at RT or inside at LG. Signing Tunsil the same offseason you’d taken your LT in the first round of the draft was always a puzzling one.

If they can develop Fisher into a quality LT then that would be a major steal in the draft, and possibly easier to develop an RT later.

Still wouldn’t be too shocked if the move on from Howard as well, I certainly expected it to be Howard gone this year and Tunsil next, doing it this way round makes me think they are confident with what they’ve got at LT.

If they move on from Howard, I would have thought they would be more aggressive in getting a FA for the o-line...but it's not over.

I’m not enamored with Howard’s work ethic, injury history or attitude on the field. If Ryan want’s a total OL reset, move on & grab more draft capital.

I'd sign Kevin Zeitler and plug him in at LG. He's so SWARMY, he smells like SWARM from here.

Great culture setter, older guy...but last year he still played at a high level and is everything DeMeco is about. Due to age might be a salary fit here and would be a great bridge to a mid-round draft pick.
Think he is a RG now, but yeah, change culture and learn how to swarm from a savy vet.

Hopefully they sign Zietler to play RG.

I'm hoping for an OL that looks something like this.

Banks/Tomlinson/Patterson/Zietler/Howard

Reserves Fisher OT and Scruggs at OG

I cant tell you next yrs OL will be better than last yrs. But I will tell you they will be much smarter, so that will be an upgrade.

Howard might return a 2030 RD7.
Joking aside, this is why his cap space is more important than any trade.

And because we don’t really need that cap space until next season or the season after that (assuming Stingley & Anderson resigns can be covered by the Tunsil trade and Hunter’s contract later expiring) it leads us on to, can you get a season of adequate play at an OL spot out of Howard while you wait to develop an LT/LG/RT as replacement (dependent on how the position group around him shakes out).

Because the past season would suggest that despite his injuries etc, he wasn’t the biggest problem with that OL, he still offers a lot of versatility. The only reason they’d be desperate to ship him out here and now that I can see is if he has copied Tunsil’s work ethic and they want to protect young players from doing the same.

Less pretty, uglies with foul intentions :kingkong:

Sad to say for both, lot of Texan fans want to see them go. How can you measure heart, nerves or toughness under duress? They both embody the exact opposite of swarm. Would be looking for new homes for both. Maybe Roger expands to Honolulu then Fair Weather Barin makes all the cents in the world. Or Tytus wants to play closer to home too, in Atlanta? In Caserio we trust.

My bad if already posted...

I didn't know that the NFL had performance-based payouts for players that play above their contract until I heard them talking about it on the radio the other day. (Doesn't count against the salary cap)

Congrats to Calen and Henry. That's a nice additional chunk of change.

Never paid attention to this before myself.

Pretty cool and doesn’t count against the cap.

Just a little wiggling beginning in my brain that Nick might be interested in selecting Egbuka. His comfort zone is at the slot; we have Christian Kirk there. However reading even more evaluations, it looks like Egbuka with good coaching could do well outside receiver. He did well with Stroud in his last season at OSU. He would take pressure off CJ and Nico .

Draft left tackle Charles Grant and use him as a super tackle on plays where you need a good blocking tight end. He is excellent blocking both run and pass and has very quick feet and good slide which would be necessary for a tight end. He then could play two positions and also backup left guard.

"Pretty much, they're just trying to keep the young guys together. It's as simple as that," Tunsil, 30, said. "When I was a rookie (in Miami) and I would talk to my O.G., who was Brandon Albert, and Jermon Bushrod and Mike Pouncey, they told me it's a young man's game. I've seen it for myself. They drafted some young guys, and they hit on every draft pick. They're trying to keep those guys together, so I fully understand.
