Texans Player Transaction DISCUSSION Thread

The good news is this RB room is looking far better than recent years. Even if Mixon loses a few games, I have newfound confidence in Pierce. It’s early but camp reports suggest the light is coming on for him. We shall see about Akers, but I could see him sticking in a reserve role as well which makes three starters as your top 3. I think they keep four…is it Dare for his brilliant kicking ability, or one of the rookies? Or if Akers is a scratch it’s probably Dare and a rookie. I’m still ok with that. PS - I want British Brooks just for the name.

You mean Mixon misses a few games not loses a few games, correct?

Demeco says that Mixon's "tight hamstring" is "no issue." Any hamstring for a RB has to be considered an issue, especially before the season even begins.

Research has found significantly more preseason leg and hamstring stiffness among players who would later sustain a tear, compared to those who maintained healthy hamstrings throughout their practices and games. More and more is found to be due to the quad and hip flexor strength overpowering the hamstrings. Training in general must better address this imbalance.

Texans' Joe Mixon: Tending to hamstring issue

Mixon missed the Texans' last two practices with a tight hamstring, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston reports. "Joe will be fine," Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said. "Joe may miss a little time, but he'll be fine." Wilson's report provides clarity to what had been previously been an undisclosed injury for Mixon.

The Texans just can't ever get their "stories" together when it comes to injuries! Quad injuries, even "minor" ones are also something to be concerned about with RB.

Nice to see that Caserio is bringing in another swing tackle, in T Cameron Erving. He always keeps the roster churning at this point, and ended up Fant last year who was a huge pickup late last year. The only downside is it may indicate that Fisher needs some more development before being given that job.

I don't get that impression at all. He's replacing Heck who can't practice for the foreseeable future. Fisher is still in the same place he was before

That could certainly be the case, just thought the timing wasn't in Fisher's favor.

They tried Broeker out there, so if anything they may not have liked what they saw, and with Heck out and Tunsil not yet back they need bodies and depth. Tunsil will make a miraculous recovery once the worst of camp is over.

Trying to overlook his extensive injury history, the Texans are probably looking at this versatility......................since entering the NFL in 2015 with the Browns, he has played all 5 OL positions.

I imagine this is going to be an ongoing issue with him until he retires
Quite possibly, especially if he does not concentrate efforts in prevention. This will be difficult since plantar fasciitis is an overuse injury that can be prevented by 2 major approaches...................strong orthotics..................and avoidng overusing your feet. The latter could be next to impossible as an OT.

What about for a QB? As apparently Justin Herbert has this same issue.

Yeah, I got confused but knew they were both foot injuries. Not sure about the difference when it comes to QB's though
Both having suffered plant foot injuries, Schaub's Lisfranc is in general a much more career-devastating injury to a QB than a plantar fasciitis issue which can many times be "controlled".................although, of course, obviously having neither is preferable. :)

so a pick six is still a Schaub but a pick will be an Herbert if it doesn’t result in a score. Does one injury produce a Pick six vs one producing just an int?….or could it just be a QB issue?

Think it could be a good deal.

Team looks different with Ward in vs when he's out.

He's clearly a tone setter and emotional leader even beyond what Demeco said about his versatility in being able to have a safety you can trust to put in man coverage situations.

Overall it will most likely come down to how healthy he can stay.

And then there is this new guy..

The Houston Texans are adding another player entering the last week of training camp. According to KPRC 2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, the Texans are signing veteran ...

Edit
Bawden has been placed on injured reserve in '18, '19, '20 and '22 with various injuries, including ACL and the knee.

Not sure what's going on with Beck, but we're clearly looking at FB

Playing multiple players at the position in practice and sometimes in games and now bringing in another one

I hope he doesnt make the roster, but does anyone think this new fb w/ his injury history is just a preseason body to throw out there and not worry about getting one of our starters hurt in a game that doesnt matter before the season actually starts vs Indy?

Quite probably. Not sure how bad Beck's injury is, but Keene who would have likely been the other main guy to play at FB against the Rams is now hurt so it makes sense to pick one up even in the super short term.

Have to weigh up with Beck, he came up with winning moments last season but had a lot of ‘WTF’ moments, too.

NFL tends to be a zero sum game where the teams play towards a draw and one or 2 moments decide the game, and each game has a huge effect on the W/L record come playoff seeding time.

So do you carry a man who has helped win some games, or can you get those wins elsewhere?

For me, this is a perfect example of head coach and GM working together.
Hopefully has a clean season with injuries this season, clearly the coaching staff believe in him even though last year wasn’t as good as advertised.

Will, maybe but why guarantee him $255,000 when they could have just signed him with no GTD?

Because with no guarantee he likely doesn't sign.

It's also often done as a good faith gesture to a veteran player and their respective agency to not just bring them in to get banged around and then boot them to the curb empty handed.

I’d like to see Caserio make a play for FB- Hunter Luepke (Cowboys/NDSU). He’s in the mold of 49’ers great FB, Tom Rathman. In all honesty, I don’t think the Dallas offense really has any use for a FB. Luepke can execute every roll of a FB and he does this with really decent speed for a FB. He’s also an excellent receiver that can create mismatches coming out of the backfield.

Texans are going to cut 1-2 very decent receivers…..I wonder if one of them might be able to pry Hunter away from Dallas. I just think Slowick’s offense is ready built for a guy with Hunter’s ability.

An undrafted free agent with horrible history of getting on college field refuses a contract with a team some project to be in super Bowl, because he didn't get $255 k gtd?

I am not opposed to that minuscule guarantee just seems more like a good gesture by Nick as you indicate.

As you indicate OT, I would like to see Nick trade some of our wide receivers which seems to be our strongest and deepest position, for a player another position to strengthen it.

Signing for a team with Superbowl aspirations is a bit irrelevant when the writing is on the wall that you're a camp body and will likely be cut in a week or twos time. That's why you want some kind of guarantees.

I get that the player wants guarantees, but no reason for Nick to give them in his case.

Yes, but then why would he sign?

Players and their representation aren't stupid. Do you honestly think he or his agent thinks getting banged around in a preseason game and risking injury for absolutely nothing is a good idea? If this was some rook with no tape to sell himself with then sure they need something to show other teams. He's been in the league since 2018, there's nothing he needs to show teams at this point.

To make a long story short the only motivation for him to be here is $. Therefore Caserio needs to give him some $.

I just realized that I have confused GTD money to Bawden that actually was given to British Brooks {$255K}. Bawden got one year deal $1,055,000 and ZERO of it is GTD. This fits my POV I just had wrong numbers.

Is this where we put the Texans roster cuts/additions/practice squad? Or do we have a dedicated thread and I've missed it?

So far, only heard of two cuts. Neither is a surprise:

McTelvin Agim
Jaden Janke
