I was wondering if we or the Bills (he's incredibly well liked by the fans and the team there) would bring him back or if he was considering retirement.

He's a top pros' pro so always gad to have him in there even just showing the young guys the way.

He's someone I'd also wonder if they'd bring him into the fold coaching wise. I'm still even surprised JJo hasn't landed anywhere as a defensive assistant or something. I know he was part of the mentorship program or whatever they call it for a few days in camp last year, but still wonder why he hasn't landed anywhere yet.

Good upside play. Has some juice as a pass rusher. Could develop into an Ogbo designated pass rusher type in the NFL. Get him in the DL room learning from those vets and see what happens!

One thing he has going for him is he’s in football shape. Khalil Davis was signed from the UFL around training camp time last season and managed to work his way into a rotational role at DT.

I am not holding my breath that Fisher will have the same immediate success as Davis did given the competition at DE, but I think he’s a talented player they can develop.

Reed should add veteran insurance as a swing interior OL depth option. Former UDFA going into his 10th season in the NFL. Has played for Texans OL coach with the Colts.

Cephus is a talented big bodied WR but I don’t think he has a realistic path to the active roster here. PS at best competing with a guy like Jared Wayne for a spot.

He will be competing with Kenyon Green for the LG position.

************

Assuming for now that Kenyon is slotted #1, Reed most likely will be competing with Kendrick for the #2 position. I really don't see the logic or purpose of this signing. It takes reps from players already signed. Kendrick is on his rookie contract with this year and next remaining. Kendrick and Reed won't both make the team unless Reed maybe will be moved to the right side. But we have Patterson? This signing doesn't make sense. We should be focusing on developing the young talent already under contract.

The 2023 Texans are and have been very active in trades and players with their 23-24 future strategy plan. This is another example of it - 'Houston Texans become the first team to cut a 2024 NFL Draft Pick' from what I'm learning is that this was the earliest cut from a newly draft pick. So that was a pretty fast decision making. Something about the situation recently happened and it was time to act on it.
Almost 53 roster time almost Aug then Sept the season starts.
Look at what the Texans management have done in one glorious last season. I trust them to do the same this year but even better imho.

been a while since Ive heard Cam Akers name...used to like him back in the day...heck I didnt even know he was a FA RB out there...but signing him really has me wondering whats going on with our RB room...we have Mixon, Pierce, Jordan, and 2 others and now adding Akers??? Especially after two achilles tears one to each leg....hmmmm
Only 25 yrs old, was a good hard running back with good cutting abilities, Cloak would have to give us a better idea of how his legs and performance would be affected going forward...but after two straight years of achilles tears...theres def a lot of tread left on those tires.

It's not impossible for a player to return following an Achilles rupture. Repair techniques have definitely improved, especially with minimal incision approaches. A RB would have a lesser chance. Even with return with good performance, there is typically still compromise. A RB having suffered a rupture separately of both of his Achilles tendons is not very promising for return return, especially with maintained performance level of any semblance.

Thanks Cloak, thats what I figured regarding his performance going forward...especially with the type of runner he is/was? Will be interesting to see how he fits in and if he makes final 53

What if he tore the same one twice?

Akers is coming off a torn left Achilles tendon that he suffered in Week 9 as a member of the Minnesota Vikings.
That was Akers' second time suffering such an injury; he previously tore his left Achilles during the 2021 offseason when he was with the Los Angeles Rams. The former Florida State standout returned later that season and contributed to the Rams' Super Bowl run, finishing with 172 yards in four postseason games.

Ive seen several stories say that he tore his right, then his left a year later, and have seen one saying they were both to his left....which stories are correct idk, but im going to go with several stories stating each achilles has been torn.

Akers tore his right Achilles tendon in an offseason workout before the 2021 season with the Rams and made a remarkably fast recovery to return in less than six months for the playoffs for the eventual Super Bowl champions.Nov 6, 2023

Nov 6, 2023 — EAGAN, Minn. -- An MRI confirmed that Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers tore his left Achilles, coach Kevin O'Connell announced

Feb 1, 2022 — Los Angeles Rams running back, Cam Akers, tore the Achilles tendon in his right leg in July while performing box jumps.

Nov 6, 2023 — Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers ruptured his left Achilles tendon in another blow to a banged-up offense, a season-ending injury

Mixon missed his second practice today so some are thinking he’s hurt. Hopefully not.

Turns out that the Collins for Armstead trade with the 49ers that didn't go through this offseason, may have had a medical issue involved. (It turned into trading Collins for a low draft pick, and Arik ended up going to the Jaguars.)

Armstead had a surgery on his knee during the offseason, the Jaguars put him on PUP and based on the article he isn't expected back until late in the season while he recovers.

So it looks like we dodged a bullet, based on the contract (43.5M, 28M guaranteed on a 3 year deal.)

I thought CloakNNNdagger informed of this shortly after it happened?

I think CnD has not been positive about RBs with Achilles surgery. Akers has one on both ankles.
An odd signing. Was good prior to those injuries.
Perhaps they want to take a good look - they may have gotten a positive report from somewhere.

I'm soured on RBs with torn Achilles.

But at one time I was sour on RBs with blown knees, then came Frank Gore & Willis McGahee...

So I'm open to change.

Isn't the media wonderful?!

From my original separate sources contemporary to each of Akers' Rams and Vikings injury incidents.............................Akers tore his right Achilles in 2021 and his left Achilles last year.

Demeco says that Mixon's "tight hamstring" is "no issue." Any hamstring for a RB has to be considered an issue, especially before the season even begins.

Research has found significantly more preseason leg and hamstring stiffness among players who would later sustain a tear, compared to those who maintained healthy hamstrings throughout their practices and games. More and more is found to be due to the quad and hip flexor strength overpowering the hamstrings. Training in general must better address this imbalance.
