Texans PFF Post Playoff Loss Mock Draft

I'd be against WRs with the first 2 picks. Not crazy about doubling up on DTs either. I do think all of the picks represent good value though.
If that’s how draft falls, and best player available can cement positions of greatest value, whether it be WR or DL I would not hesitate to pull the trigger. Crazy if it did happen, just never say never.

There is going to be a stud available #23. Now other teams may covet him as well and I’d also be ok with a bidding war, maybe a little sad, but hopefully depth on roster greatly improved.

This is my preference. Would set DL, LB and add #3 WR.
I'm just looking for star level players and I'm hoping that one of these guys are available. Thoughts on Mitchell/Wiggins/DeJohn?

1. Mitchell
2. Thomas
3. Newton
4. Robinson's
5. DeJean

It's a good list and may be what the Texans are selecting from at 1.23. I would add Georgia OT Amarius Mims to the list. Mims has massive size but maintains NFL athleticism. If you're a proponent of Bill Parcells "Planet theory", there aren't a lot of Amarius Mims walking the Earth. Georgia has a track record of producing good O-linemen. Andrew Thomas in 2020, Jamaree Salyer in 2022, and Broderick Jones last year. Sheer talent alone, Mims is ahead of all of them. He's not the best O-lineman in this draft right now. But by the time his rookie deal is over, Mims could very well be the best in this class.

I could easily get on board with drafting Mims. Without the sprained ankle he probably would be a top 15 pick. Dude has the talent to be worth the 23rd pick

I would love for CnD to weigh in on Mims injury history. Good news is that there should be a difference maker there at 1-23.

And Mims still may go that early. Some of the guys on your list will drop (not all) and there's a chance Mims could too.

If you want to include CND or any member in the conversation, you can do so by placing the @ symbol before their full user name, like @CloakNNNdagger.
All you have to do is type the @ symbol, then without hitting space, start typing the user name, "Cloa" the name will pop up. Click it @ Bob's your uncle.

Adonia Mitchell WR Texas? Trade down.

Brian Thomas Jr.? In play #23

Jer’Zhan Newton? Was my pick day posted this thread and has not changed one bit.

Darius Robinson? I would consider reaching for him here (developmental) but would rather trade down and see if he’s still there in 2nd. Plus pick up another top 10.

Cooper DeJean? Is for sure top 20 pick. Have to trade up to get him. Think he will be a great safety. Ready to give up on Pitre?

Dont want UT's Mitchell and I'm a UT fan.

Thomas I see as a future great WR that's best football is ahead of him.

Love Newton too, I'm torn between Thomas and Newton. I'm going with Thomas because he's more of a sure thing IMHO. If Caserio could come out of this draft with both Thomas and Newton I would be very happy even if future draft picks were traded to get these guys. They are both star level players IMHO.

Robinson is a poor mans Newton who has the ability to play the edge or drop down to DT in passing situations. A very good player.

Thanks for responding on DeJohn, as you know I think he's a great player, but I cant evaluate CB's worth a crap. I like DeJohn more as a S than a CB. He's got great ball skills. I also like Nubin at 1-23. He's a difference maker. I'm playing Petrie at nickle CB, closer to the LOS. I dont trust him in coverage or as a tackler as the last line of defense.

Pitre maybe just an undersized OLB. So I agree dropping him down and utilizing his best traits. Have no issue keeping Pierce as returner & depth in RB room. So happy for healthy Stingley, wait with both fingers crossed that Greene can become that dominant LG he was drafted to be!

the CB we should all want, DeMeco included, is Alabama Terron Arnold. Pair him up with Sting and Texans would have best pair of corners in NFL. He is even a better tackler, sound in every area, nose for the football size & speed. Still leaves a gapping hole @ safety.

Unfortunately, Tampa franchised Antoine Winfield, he would have been my #1 FA target. Safety is a must. Would move on from Ward (age) try to get younger, maybe FA Kamron Curl, Washington Commanders would be outstanding high volume, underrated player.

Good DT class in 2024 draft. 2nd or 3rd depending on which WR, prefer a slot, Texans can add to reciever room to open up Tank & Nico. Combine begins Monday after which I can finally put together a more realistic mock 😉

Agreed about Petrie and Green.

Love Arnold, but he will be long gone by 1-23. Mitchell has the ability to be as good as Arnold he hasn't faced the level of competition Arnold has, so he's a bit of a wildcard. But the talent is there and I'm thinking he lights up the combine and is long gone by 1-23.

Agreed about the S position and the NYJ just cut Whitehead who would be a great addition to the secondary.

Carter from Duke has kinda impressed me as an under the radar guy. But I would be very happy if Caserio drafted Thomas at 1-23 and traded 2-59 put future picks for Newton.

If you like a Dell like Slot WR checkout Malik Washington, he's very impressive and caught over 100 balls last yr.

A Safety prospect that I checked out after I read that Caserio was looking at him at the Sr. Bowl is Malik Mustafa S Wafe Forest. He's short, but he's solidly put together at 210 lbs. A sure tackler that is good in coverage. He's played some slot CB. I would love to get your thoughts on him.

Looking forward to you putting out a post combine mock. I'm going to put one out too, maybe we can collaborate on this.

Yeah, I’m willing to trade up for Arnold if he slips past 13. He’s all around better than anything out there, fits DeMeco D perfectly. Malik Washington 3rd rd. Where do you have him slotted? Your far more prolific than I am anymore, think I would just slow you down.

I’ve been wanting a big SS who has the ability to mix it up in the run game and size/speed to help take TE’s out of the game plan. Also, should have the ability to pickup RB’s coming out of the backfield and hang with SWR’s.

Trying to put this puzzle together, I’m hoping SS- Jaden Hicks (Washington State) is on the board come RD4. Also, I would have no hesitation in moving up to RD3 to ensure he’s holding up a new Texans jersey when his name is announced.

Jaden Hicks: 6-3 @ 213 lbs

Sorry I couldn’t copy and paste the Steelers Depot write up on Hicks, but it’s there should you want to read and watch some of his tape. There is one clip of him coming across the field to put a hit on the RB that’s absolutely reminiscent of a Dr Doom impact. If there was ever a Safety that could work in Ryans defense…..this is the guy.

It does happen on occasion but generally NFL traits, size & speed are fairly valued. Might even transition between safety & linebacker, some versatility and depth. Not great footwork, kinda stiff hipped, slow out of breaks, builds up speed in time. Very physical, sometimes too handsy but goes after guys with bad intentions.

I've got Washington going late 3rd/early 4th.

Caserio is going to either have to pick him at 3-85 or trade back up into the late 3rd/early 4th for him. I dont see him falling to 4-125.

let’s see how these players test out next week @ combine before we rule out anything round wise. Washington’s one year @ Virginia was outstanding but 3 years before that just good. Really stout, short area burst, small for slot but looks like a RB with the ball in his hands.

exciting times. See what free agency brings? It is critical to bring in more weapons for CJ one way or another.

Using these different simulators they each use their own draft boards. So take them with grain of salt, Fashanu is either LT #1a or #1b. Important thing is positional value and protecting CJ Stroud. This is a great class, so there could be a blue chip tackle @ #23 and he should be considered, given injury’s, uncertainty and ballooning Tunsil contract.

Believe Caserio/DeMeco use FA to address DL, RB and resign current Texan free agents. LB is not, a sexy position to use 2nd round pick, so he’s got to be special. Detroit used 18th pick on Jack Campbell in last years vaunted Lions draft class. I believe Payton Wilson has a higher ceiling. Campbell 6-5 250lbs 32”arms 10” hands. One of the most important takeaways from Combine is verified measurements & medicals, both are in play for Payton. He has some medical red flags (knee & shoulder) but has two consecutive injury free seasons, should measure out in 6-4 238lb range but his speed (sub 4.5 in play) may shoot him up draft boards before Texans selection.

It’s so damn tempting to take WR round one or Two, but don’t want to rock receiver room now and going forward. Nico & Tank can be elite WR’s, eventually requiring big, shiny new contracts plus other glaring roster upgrades needed. But going 3rd & 4th with two dynamic young, very different skill sets, can replace Woods & Noah Brown on cheap rookie contracts.

Khyree Jackson, is a tall, competitive CB who could become starter opposite Stingley, also on cheap rookie contract (start thinking what Stingley will command in his contract extension?). Expect Jackson to be selected in 3rd. so I wouldn’t mind if Texans went that route if they did go WR earlier.

Rest is all depth pieces, to develop in rooms where more quality depth is needed (never go wrong with LSU DT, son of hall of fame RB, and Iowa TE!

Enjoy the Combine :logo:

  • Did this mock after first day of Combine. Obviously that will greatly impact this draft tremendously (not going to happen, but we can dream). Did not even include all future picks acquired. The mock site generated a ton of trade offers, so there was a point that I just had to stop, was ridiculous.
  • Point to be made, unless there is a truly no brainer like Bryon Muphy (JerZhan did not participate due to recovering from surgery, I’m still down taking him) trading down just a little, dropped three slots and picked up late 2nd (turned into Payton Wilson) also got my WR Corley.
  • Other trades netted future picks, 2025 and still added crazy talent & depth across the board.

Love this

It will never happen.

Just catching up from Combine and have a new RB who’s traits would complement Devin Singletary. Isaac Guerendo, Louisville, trsnsfer from Wisconsin (assuming couldn’t beat out Braelon Allen) but has size 6-0 221 & speed 4.33

One of the 4th rd. picks should get it done. Guerendo is this years draft Isiah Pacheco :logo:

Agreed,

I bet he goes in the 3rd.

All of the guys I wanted in the 1st look like they will be gone and late rd guys like Guerendo and Jarrett Wiley appear to be moving up.

Big fan! Sweat gives you 30% of snaps year 1 and forces teams to not go run heavy. Puts a stop to the 4 minute offense to salt the game away. A unique player not a lot of teams have. A cheat code of sorts.

Legette gives you a potential DK Metcalf mismatch field stretcher and insurance for Nico. Excellent addition to CJ’s arsenal.

Sainristil is my guy! If they can add him as a nickel this DB room will be a tough matchup for any offense.

Love Laube as the James White type back in this offense. 3rd down specialist can line up out wide and come up with unique packages to have both him and Mixon on the field.

This one is sick, or maybe it’s me. Did not want to trade down, but Sweat went off the board, and for next years 3rd only had to move down two spots (how painful is that?). But then got another trade down offer, this time from KC. So now I say woh, hold up, let me check who’s there? Who are they are targeting (cheeky bastards). Xavier Worthy you say? Hell to the no we’re taking him. As consolation price got a different stud DT from The Ohio State, Michael Hall JR. Going be a stud anchor for DL as Nick mixes and matches all the moving parts. Well you be judge & executioners? Eat your heart out Cody ❤️

Recap from Combine of offensive lineman running 40’s. Not to focus on times as much as watching movement skills, build and how they carry it. Really a great class too, would be smart to address future with developmental swing.
