Speculation.

Is there always going to be better players to chose from next year? idonno:

If you need a QB find one this year. Poll your scouts, if they can't identify one, get new scouts.

Draft two late. Hooker? Hall? Tune? Duggan? Haener? could all be available late.

Take 4 to TC. Take a look. Minchew(?) , Mills and two draftees in camp.

Worked well for the Oilers, drafted two in 1971. ( were early picks). Traded one of them later.

Tell me it's stupid. My ego can take it. :D Desperate times call for desperate measures. :foottap:

:coffee:
Yes .... there is always going to be a load of new talent each year .... but not at every position .... and really good offensive linemen dissapear very quickly !

Cann is a serviceable RG.

I dont think everybody realizes how bad Q was last yr, coupled with Green playing with one arm and you see what we saw last yr.

Give me Bradbury and draft a C that can also play OG. Depending on how the draft falls I would draft an IOL at 4-103.
I know you're really loyal to Ricky Stromberg .... me too .... but he never seemed to satisfy the media. Same with Beaux Limmer .... what a specimen .... he can lift a house !

Watching Q’s tape (and Greens) was so tough. They both just were completely manhandled especially the middle of the season.

No Evan Neal 🤣
He got hurt.

Notice how the NYG were able to run the ball better and made the playoffs with an improved OL which Neal was a big part of. I wanted him to start off at LG for the Texans and he would've been an improvement in both the long and short term over Green. IMHO

My 2 choices were Neal and Davis, the 2 biggest/baddest dudes in the draft. Tone setters, followed by another tone setter in Sam Williams. I know how much everybody loves Petrie, I do too. But Davis/Sam Williams would have the Texans in a much better position than they're currently in today. IMHO

The were able to run the ball and make the playoffs because Barkley was healthy and Daniel Jones wasn't turning the rock over and running the ball. Neal was avg at best even when healthy. He was supposed to be the dude of o-line players, but he wasn't. His career isn't done, but he looks like the typical Bama o-line avg player in the pro's.

They do end up starting for a long time though.

I wanted Neal to play LG.
Since when? DJ Flucker, Womack, Leatherwood, and them dudes couldn't even make it past their rookie contract. I think what happens is they max out their abilities in college under Saban. Look at how much better the kid Tyler Smith was than Neal. We can go through the laundry list of Saban o-linemen drafted high and been avg at best. Its like the best people see from them are on Saturdays.

Doesn't coaching and the NFL team they go to have a lot to do with player results?

True, but those players and many others from the Saban era have been drafted high based on their college performance and have not come close to being the player they thought they would become. We're not talking about a late round pick from a small college program. We're talking about the premier program for the last 10 years or so who had display off dominance and then pretty much flopped. I mean Leatherwood was cut after his 2nd year, Jonah Williams is avg at best, and Neal isn't starting off any better, yet posters talk about Howard who has came from a hbcu and has performed better than all those guys. We're not even going to bring up who the board wanted that went to Philly who has been a dog too.

As time rolls along, the game changes. Linemen today, have to be athletes .... more so than any time in the past. Being big and tough and mean and strong is not enough. They've got to be smart and athletic .... and there are very few in this class !

You're a bit of an officionado on the Oline - who are your top 3 centers, guards and Right tackles?

In football or in this draft ? This year's crop is pretty weak .... last year was as good as I've seen. Of course Skoronski from Northwestern, but he'll be off the board early, Luke Wypler, if he can gain a little weight and strength, maybe Joe Tipmann for right guard or right tackle, maybe Patterson or Stomberg ....you gotta love Cody Mauch .... he so ugly and so happy .... and never leaves anything on the field .... maybe even Brett Freeland from BYU - reminds me of Heck .... huge and seems always to be running around. It's really hard for me to get an idea until the combine .... then you can at least, watch them move around. That was a poor job, but then again, I think this is a weak year for OL .... next week will reveal a lot. Oh, and I am not an afficionado .... just a guy with guilt over not appreciating them as a youth !

I have my eye on Tippmann - I think he might be a tad too big for a center? A smaller guy is quicker I feel for C. But like you say, he could play G or RT and be a possible backup C.

Any candidate that generates buzz at the combine likely goes higher than the 6th, but you can always cobble a couple of those together and move up to make sure you get one.
Do you think he’ll be one of the ones generating buzz? I haven’t heard anything as of yet. But yes, I’d also couple some and jump into the 5th for him. It all depends on how the board falls.

Mafi and Curtis are good ones to watch .... but I think they're bodies are more suited to a Power-Gap Defense than a ZBS system.... think Gary Kubiak ! Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here .... but I think were after the lighter, athletic guys. Not an abundance of either in this crop of guys .... man, I can't wait to see 'em in work out !!!

I looked them up. You’re correct on Mafi according to The Draft Network. They list him best in a power scheme.

For Curtis they list him best for a wide zone heavy offense. So there might be potential there, but they also describe him as having slow feet. So he could not fit the athletic traits that they’re looking for.

I’ll have to cross reference prospects for scheme fits. So far I’ve just been watching for prospects that stand out.

Ethan Pocic 6'6" 310 one of top FA this offseason. I also think Slowik might ask Brendel to follow him and Ryans here. Actually would be shocked if he didn’t. Sign both as Pocic would be really good at RG.

Yes, but we shouldn't give half of it to Tunsil. He says he needs to become the highest paid linemen in the league again ! He says it's his duty .... taking care of all the other NFL linemen ! What a big .... heart ? Act is wearing thin !!
I have already posted an example from OTC that would lower Tunsil's cap hit by $11 million and lock him in for 4 seasons. That savings allows us another starter.

Before he works out .... has anyone else thought about someone transitioning Skoronski to center ?
Yes i have mentioned it. He played center in high school but he is a pro bowler in making at OG.
My suggestion Was Skoronski at left guard and move green to right guard. Allows Kenyon to adjust and recover mentally from 2022 behind Cann, if needed.
