I think the arm length measurement is far too overplayed. The Texans rookies came from Power 5 schools and faced plenty of top notch talent. Somehow they all had solid CFB careers.
Jarrett Patterson (ND) 31-3/8"
Juice Scruggs (Penn St) 33-1/4"
Nick Broeker (Ole Miss) 32-1/2"
None of these guys are going to confused as freaks of nature, but the guy with the shortest arms is more than holding up against some strong DT's. I believe the blocking scheme has removed the arm length disadvantage. Patterson has done well at Center and stands to really improve his rating against the next three opponents. LG clearly doesn't have any real answers for this season....but Nick and Juice have CFB experience at LG. Both bring a nasty demeanor to the position in regards to the run game, but had questions in the pass game. The blocking scheme has definitely made Patterson look fine and my guess, it'll do the same for either Scruggs or Broeker. I'd like to end the speculation by seeing them both getting game snaps at LG.

Is arm length that big of a deal for interior linemen? I was thinking that was just a thing for tackles who have to deal with speed rushers and have to work in space more.
I could be wrong about that, though.

Exactly....I think it's far overplayed. In their scouting reports, the one thing they all had in common.....strong vice-like grip. I'll take this trait over arm length on the inside.

Seems you had concerns about the Oline as well.
They do deserve some credit though I would say it has more to do with our QB that you adamantly didn’t want than the Oline playing great. He’s making all the right reads and getting the ball out fast. You know the guy you said has never won anything before the first game. Some QBs have the ability to make their offensive lines look better than they are. So far Stroud has done that with trash in front of him. I’ll be the first to admit I was in the be patient on drafting a QB crowd as well. Not because I didn’t like Stroud. I did like him a lot. I was worried he would get Carred with this OL. All praise to the great talent evaluator Hannah! It appears she nailed this pick.
I stand behind everything I’ve said about this Oline. Thank god we have QB that can overcome their short comings. Well so far.

CJ said he talked to Burrow a lot before the draft. And Burrow taught him some good things just in talking with him.

Yes, short term. The only other healthy option for LG is Broeker. Morrissey can be elevated from the PS two more times. There is also an injured Deiter, who may be available for the Falcon game.
As of noon today, Howard has not been signed to the 53; or at least a news report has not been issued. But strangely, we do not have a Punter signed to the 53 either, which tells me we can still expect some roster moves before tomorrows game.
Looking down the road, when Scruggs comes off IR and is ready to play, he or Patterson could move into the LG position. Fant would become the swing tackle.

Strausser/Popovich are putting on a coaching master class so far with the hand they’ve been dealt. Popovich will probably earn his way out of the coaching doghouse (declined being the Pats OL successor due to Covid protocols). I expect him to be a full OL coach somewhere next season.

Will Howard stay at LG this season if Tunsil is healthy and Fant is playing well? If/when the OL gets healthy it essentially becomes a question of “who are the 5 best OL on this team currently?” Is Fant currently better than Scruggs returning from IR?
I assume Howard is the best LG on the roster and if Fant is a better RT than Scruggs or Patterson is a LG then it would make sense to keep Howard at LG this season.

As of Friday's walk through practice, Tunsil was still limping and Howard will be playing with a club, unable to grab or hold with that arm. Both players will be impaired in their effectiveness.
Deculus is available to replace Tunsil, but who is #2 at LG?
I'm not expecting the Texans to have much of a run game, especially on the left side. Over on the right side, Mason has been limited with an ankle issue.

Spent some time looking through PFF and I didn't find these stats broken out by game. Seems reasonable they would be, but I didn't find them.
ProFootball Reference would have the Advanced Defense Stats, but they don't come out until mid-week or so.
They have QB Hurries + QBKD (Knock Downs) + Sack = Total Pressures.
It doesn't paint the whole picture though.
The QB may have done things to avoid being hurried, knocked down, or sacked.
You can go to premium stats and then sort by game and it’ll have a game report

I use that source but as you say doesn't give entire story. Just gathering bits and pieces to share with others. Tunsil pass blocking was higher than I hoped with his knee and not playing. Hopefully, all will improve with week of working together.

How does this source grade his Run Blocking? PFF has his run blocking grade a poor 60.1. His pass blocking a superb 89.9. He gave up 1 hit and 1 hurry.

Why do you keep saying Hannah was lucky??? Why dont you just give credit where credit is due and say that CJ was the smart and best choice. He has all the intangibles, to go along with prototypical NFL QB size, is more of a traditional pocket passing qb, has great accuracy, great ball placement, and above average arm strength.
She wasn't lucky...she, cal, and the Texans did their research and were SMART.

Owners making mandates, particularly when it comes to the QB position is a big reason why the Texans have never been contenders. Like I said, hopefully Hannah got lucky this time.
