Texans Defense is terrible. Absolutely terrible!

I wonder what this MB is going to look like after BOB is fired and DW4 looks the same under a new HC? What will the excuses be then?

Remember when everybody said Carr would be great if he just had a QB coach? They hired Kubiak and after 1 yr Kubiak told the McNair's you cant win with Carr at QB. Poof, Carr was gone. I expect the same thing to happen to DW4 in yr 3 of his contract.
Your memory is faulty if it regards me.
LOL. I wouldnt touch Carr with a twenty-foot pole, or a hundred foot, for that matter.

I think the largest excuse will be that OB has by that time already ruined the talent that is Watson. Much like when Kubiak was hired, Carr was already gun shy and hearing footsteps that were not there in the pocket.

Just because there are open receivers, it doesn't mean they are necessarily available to the QB.
As many set of zebras' eyes as there are on the field, the referees still miss a lot of things.
And true, there's no point of discussion when you're not willing to go back and rewatch the plays in contention.
There's no debating with you after a post like this. Guess what the OC does? calls plays that he thinks will get WR's open. Guess what the QB's job is? To find those guys and deliver the an accurate throw and it's the WR's job to catch it. Very simple philosophy and something you should know about football

I think it's more likely that O'Brien will leave the Texans with little to no cap space to sign FAs and to retain any talent , if any is left.

He already overpaid Watson and a bunch of guys already.

1. A DW4 apologist
2. Dont understand what you apparently spent 6 hours looking at yesterday
3. Need to get out of the house more.
I did go to Galveston in between.

I never apologize for any player.

I try hard not to excuse them wrongly though.

And by the way, it looks like you and OB make a great pair. Simple game plan, simple play design ==>> Mediocrity at best.
JUst because I tried to simplify things for you after your dumfounding post doesn't mean it's that simple and you know this.

I'm pretty much done here Let the excuses reign. I cant wait for today's new round of excuses and the funny thing is you will know more than I do. Because I will mainly be watching the US Open Golf Championship and occasionally flip over to the game.

All receivers are available to the QB. The QB has to process quickly and find the open guy. Something DW4's struggles with.

Tell me what does this have to do with the Texans defense being terrible?
OK, let's forget about it. When you don't even want to look at the plays already posted with videos. No sense going around and around with words without end.

The last thing I can tell you is that if Watson is such a bad QB that keep missing wide open receivers like you claim, the guy(s) that extend him to the new contract really need to be feathered and tarred and get run out of town right this minute.

Yep, kind of like Reader not getting his a** handed to him on Thursday night. You see what you want to see.

He's not a bad QB. He's an avg QB.

And yes, the McNair's should sell the team and spend the rest of their days counting the $$$$ they made off of the city of Houston.

You wish the Texans would have a NT that can post 3 solos and 3 assists in a single game, including a TFL and a key stop to force a turnover on down at the goal line.
Actually, you can only dream about it.

Then all you can have is OBrien to blame. Quit bitching.about the QB, and get the tar and feather out. :corrosion:

I did.
And all you have to do is give me the time and play when he was "supposedly" manhandled.
Like I said, if you call 3 solo tackles and 3 assists being BAD, watch the Texans later on.

I never said he was BAD, and what does his tackles have to do with him being put on the ground? And the Texans not involved at all
Being put on the ground is an overstatement. If you remember those plays, tell me and I'll go look for them.
I know one was when he pursued the ZBS. It was just the flow of the scheme. Nobody put him on the ground but himself. And it has no effect on the play.

....are you also prepared if this goes in Watson's favor? Watson has shown enough and won enough in OB's poorly designed offense that when he finally gets a real HC and OC, they'll figure out how to best use hm.

Doesn't matter to me, I know DW4's going to be here after BOB's gone. I hopr the next HC can help DW4 learn how to improve his weaknesses. I doubt it happens though.

Probably won't be any excuses then. BO'b has never fielded a competent NFL offense. All they're asking is to see Watson with someone who knows what they're doing before they pull the plug.

That's usually the way it's done in the NFL, unless we're talking about someone like Jonny Football or Brady Quin & the Browns.

I wish you watched the game, or if you did you knew what you wee looking at. I dont care how many tackles Reader got. He was the main guy in the middle responsible for giving up over 200 yds rushing and watching Reader getting his a** handed to him letting Reader walk was a smart thing to do and I thought it was a bad move not re-signing Reader to begin with.

Where we differ is I can look at things admit I'm wrong and move on. This is a quality that you dont appear to posses.

Just like with Carr and I expect the same results with DW4. History is repeating itself, just like I said when they drafted DW4 and didn't fix the OL to begin with. Same thing happened with Carr.

It could be that both Carr/DW4 weren't/aren't that good.

I'm too lazy to call down & distance. & I can pretty much imagine your response if I did, some explanation that wont explain how the primary run defender was nowhere near 215 yards given up on the ground, but somehow had an excellent game.

I agree for the most part, but this is game one, with no real preseason. & the Texans gave big money to three defensive players that I'd rather have lined Dj's poket.

But he's gone & not one person on the Bengals defensive side of the ball should be walking around with their head up this week.

Where did I say that Reader had an excellent game.
What I've been saying so far:
- He was not the weak link.
- He made some plays.
- Plenty of longer runs did not go through his gaps.

They paid him to make a step change in their run defense. Didn't happen.

Not yet anyway.

I was hoping they would spend the $$$$ on Byron Jones and if that didn't happen Reader. Would you have rather signed Jones/Reader and let Nick Martin/Mercilus/Cunningham walk?

I would've liked this. Although Cunningham is a good LB, he's not a true impact guy and he's currently being paid like he is an impact guy.

But that's not the point, what college has run a version of this offense and had a successful QB in the NFL. I cant think of 1. Maybe this guy exists and if he does I would love you to direct me to him so I can learn what he's doing to be successful in the NFL.
It’s a new thing. Arizona is running a similar style with success. The Ravens molded their offense to fit their QB with success. Hell the Patriots did it in one off season with no pre season games for Newton. Our coaches are trying to force the players to do things that don’t make sense. It’s flawed and outdated. You just keep ignoring all the evidence.

Carr and Watson are apples and oranges. What was Carr's record and stats? What is the Texans record with Watson? What is OB's record without Watson? I guess you understand the difference if you answered the questions honestly.

Carr got the benefit of a new coach and system.....he failed b/c of the abuse he took and his lack of commitment to study and learn.

Watson is still stuck with the crap heap known as OB and has somehow managed to squeeze success out of this bag of shite offensive game plan.

We have to hope this happens ...

Really , I think they need to simplify everything , limit the number of options. A - B - (maybe C ) Checkdown. Loads of play action , roll outs that put pressure on DB's to commit one way or another .... and put his ass under center.

Stop trying to force everything deep downfield and take what the defense gives. Sustain some drives , chew up clock , win games.

Watson really stays locked onto the first deep route far too long in most cases. I think this is mainly due to being able to escape pressure for so much of his career being the best athlete on the field - thing is , in the NFL everyone is a great athlete.

They also asked him to lose quite a bit of weight so he would be more effective as a pass rusher ....

The one reason I was Ok with the Texans not matching that offer was that Reader is a specialist - a two down player for the most part. He's the fire plug in the middle to stuff the run on 1-2 down and comes out on 3rd down - enter pass rush specialist.

The Bengals wanted him to play three downs for that hefty payday - His losing weight may have an effect on his ability to do what he was really good at here.

I seriously don't think any of those guys would walk. They should be paying McNair to let them start.

Well, Cunningham would probably start on any other team, but not for top 5 LB money
Cunningham allowed a 77.6% completion rate against and a QBR against of 107.4 last season.

McKinney allowed an 89.7% completion rate against and a QBR against of 143.6 last season.

Those numbers are pathetic.

I think you're wrong. Reader was not a 2-down player for the Texans.
His ability to play 3 downs is what convinced the Bengals to pay him big time (not saying that I would).
He was putting up some pressure in the pass rush for the Texans as well as the Bengals; some just doesn't show up in the stat sheet.
I've been studying his last game, and he played well.

I can tell @steelbtexan that 77 never handed Reader anything; he(77) did get away with a blatant call that resulted in a 13-yd run by Chubb. Even so, Reader maintained his gap. The Bengals simply got caught in a fake pass on a draw play and sent both edge rushers wide, leaving the interior open like a worm hole; nobody can fill it all by himself.

I will take Corrosion's eval over yours. He's spent most of his life around football and players. He's watched more film with professionals than you will in your lifetime. Well maybe not if you're spending 6 yrs watching DW4's performance (If you want to call it that) against the Bills.

The Texans have lost 2 in a row to start the season. Not really surprising to a lot of us because they were playing the two best teams in the AFC.

The pass rush was much better than I expected against the Ravens. However, Baltimore's offense was still able to do whatever they wanted to after the first couple series. They figured out what the Texans wanted to do on defense and adjusted. Weaver/Crennel didn't/couldn't adjust.

The defense gave up 230 yards on the ground. Jackson was an 18/24, 204, 1/0 for a rating of 113.9 (in comparison Watson's passer rating was 89.5). It looked too easy for the Ravens at times. The Ingram 30 yard TD run was ridiculously easy because of simple alignment errors. I don't know what Crennel/Weaver were thinking on that short yardage play.

So you admit that you don't trust your own eyes now? :corrosion:

How do you know I don't watch film with the pros?
In this day and age, one doesn't need to do it face to face.
There are plenty of film rooms with NFL coaches dissecting plays on the internet.
So trust me when I said that many of them often said "they do have to guess on many aspects" because they, themselves, cannot be sure of everything they see on film.

......

And if you talk about professional opinions, well, the Bengals coaching staff and their GM/scouting department certainly came to the conclusion that Reader was more than a 2-down player (thus the big contract).
