Ryan Mallett traded to Texans

Roughly one thousand pounds Sterling. Plus the cost of storage/shipping aboard the Titanic.

It's worth over 4.7 million pounds today.

Why do you ask?
:D

edit: and that includes the set of sterling silver decanters.

Maybe I misunderstood. I think/thought cak meant what's it worth while the ship was sinking.

In that case, if won't float or fly then to it ain't worth shitzpatrick to me.

you might have a point there although, according to records, the Titanic sunk below the waves at 2:20 am. But since it hit the iceberg a little before 1:00 I imagine by 2:00 the two halves of the ship were headed toward vertical and the value of that Rolls was rapidly diminishing.
:D

...was that on the Wunderlich?
The question is easy enough to be on it.

Mallett wearing knee brace during practice?

What's up with that?

Worn it for years.

That's part of the "immobility" issue. Although, after watching him play a few times, he's nowhere near as immobile as I would have though, nowhere near as immobile as Schaub was.

Mallett suffered a significant knee injury in 2010 against Auburn, but opted for rehab instead of surgery.

The only other significant injury he suffered was to his non-throwing shoulder in the spring of 2009. In the end of the 2010, Mallett finally underwent a tightening procedure to his left rotator cuff. The injury never affected his throwing, but it caused him enough pain when he was handing the ball off with his left hand that he finally opted for the surgery.

I don't pay attention to mcclains football opinion stuff. As long as he's been around football I'd expect him to be more knowledgeable but he often comes off as clueless.

Hahaha! It's like somebody pissed in his vat-o-krispy kremes.

By and large I've gotten pretty good at ignoring most of what comes out of his preposterous gullet but that doesn't change how tiresome his act is. So anything to deflate that bag of hot air I'm all for.

I found him owning up to saying he'd eat the Houston Chronicle if we didn't use the first pick on a quarterback particularly amusing ...

This is the most awesome post on so many different levels!

What the hell does this even mean? Haha!

I thought Big Tex burned to the ground? Hopefully he wasn't eating a hotdog while Big Tex weenie was roasting.

The new and improved Big Tex is looking sharp.

I go to the fair every year... never get a corndog. I can get corndogs anytime I want from HEB, why am I going to get a corndog at the fair.

& I'm closer to Louisiana.

Outside of cotton candy, there isn't much one can get to eat at a Fair that one cannot get at a grocery store.

Turkey Legs, Gyros & funnel cakes.... some of the sausages too. All kinds of food really. That's the main reason I go.

But once you've had one corndo... man this thread's gone off topic, I'm sorry.

We are 3 days from game 1, may the mods have mercy upon our posting souls.

OK. Bear with me here. I've been thinking a lot about this trade because several things didn't jibe with me, didn't make sense, didn't work.

First, I think OB looked at the available QBs this offseason and chose Fitzy because Fitzy is smart, he talks well about football, and OB thought he could work with him. But the idea was to draft a Developmental Guy (Savage) in a later round and let Fitzy start a year and then compete for the job the second year with the Developmental Guy being the starter in Year 3.

There may have been some discussion about trading Mallet prior to that. I believe that because of a tweet Mallet made basically saying, "I'm free at last." But BB was probably asking too much and the deal fell through.

Then OB got everybody in OTAs and TC and he doesn't particularly like what he sees. Fitzy's arm strength is not good and he can't fit the ball in tight windows even though he thinks he can, he makes risky decisions and he's not The Guy OB expected him to be. So OB's not feeling really great about this. There may have been talks during OTAs and TC but the price was still higher than what OB wanted.

Now, WHY? If OB thinks Mallett is some world-beater, then no price is too high, right?

Mallett is an upgrade over Fitzy -- he's got a stronger arm, makes better decisions, and better throws. But Mallett is still NOT The GUY OB wants leading this team. Mallet has problems with a dirty pocket and if he can't step into a throw, his accuracy goes to hell. So OB is not willing to give a high draft pick for him. OB looks at Mallett as a 1 year rental until Savage is ready, an improvement of the QB position but only as a stopgap until The Guy is ready.

I think OB's plan is to go with Mallett as soon as possible. If Mallett plays lights out, great. They'll try to sign him to a deal but that's not the primary plan. If Mallet walks after playing lights out, that's fine because we've already got the guy in the wings OB is expecting to lead this team to the future; if Mallett doesn't walk and they're able to negotiate a reasonable deal, fine... that just makes for great competition in the QB room and if Savage develops, they can always trade Mallett to a QB hungry team later.

So.

That's my thoughts about this trade.

I agree with most of that. But I think OB is as good if not better at evaluating QBs than we are. We've seen enough of Fitzpatrick to know... I'm sure he knew.

Secondly, the fact that Mallet does not have a new contract tells me that was the hold up with the trade.

I think you're right, they're going to get Mallet to play so he can see what they see as far as his value goes. Chances are he's higher than they are. But, like you said, if he plays lights out, he might be more right than them.

All this talk of corn dogs and fairs makes me think of all the FUNNEL CAKES I ate at various fairs/parks in Texas. Ahhhhhhhh.

Do you think we take a QB high in next years draft? Or it all depends on how Mallett/Savage play out this year?

I think people are over thinking things as far as the reason for the trade and what we gave up.

It really doesn't mean anything, no matter what you take away from it.

I was just speed reading through all these post reading every third one or so, so the way I see it we gave up a corn dog for mallett in a trade. Cool way to go texans.

pretty much, I mean the last 7th round pick I remember having any relevance was just signed to the Cowboys practice squad....

and it wasn't because of his football talent...

much rather give up a 7th and catch lightning in a bottle with Mallett than give up the original 2nd and Mallett either sucks or walks...

I'm just harassing you..

You can actually buy the state fair corndogs at HEB --
those are supposed to be the like the ones they sell right across from Tex

You get one at the fair if you've never had one.. I like 'em fresh so
I get one every time I'm there.

Anyone that thinks there's nothing else to eat at the fair hasn't bothered
to sample the deep fry competition..

Louisiana is where I go when I want mudbugs or cracklins..

I can get all those foodstuffs where I shop. Even funnel cakes.

...besides, the Mallett talk is pretty much stale unless TC or somebody gives us a spy report from practice saying he threw one so hard it went through the practice bubble. :)
(please, please, please...!!)

The latest I heard was we traded Mallet back to New England for Tom Brady and their entire O line. They gave us their next 3 first round picks. This could be just a rumor of course.

Which would undoubtedly be followed be people yammering about Brady getting old now, how their O-line no longer has Logan Mankins, and that between Rick Smith and some kind of salary cap shenanigans the picks would be wasted. Accompanied by links to video of how well Mallett was spinning it in practice.

Go Texans!

I believe all of the current QBs on the roster are merely 'placeholders' until O'Brien finds his guy.

Maybe one of them steps up into the role, but I get the feeling that O'Brien is not going to go the desperation route of signing someone long term if the coach does not see him a a long term solution to QB.

I mean, c'mon, we all know how long McNair's leash can be with his head coaches. Dudes have to go 2-14 and have the bottom fall out to get fired, so O'Brien is not going to press it and try to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Prepare yourself for a minimal 4-5 year plan until O'Brien gets his pieces into place. He just has to field a competitive team that seems to be capable of greatness next season to qualify for Mr. McNair's almost infinite patience.

These are not meant to be disparaging remarks, btw, but rather analysis based on the history of this franchise and how the owner has tended to operate.

Patience, grasshoppers. :fostering:

Maybe BoB puts it together for us. Maybe third time's a charm. We all hope so. It's plain to see he's going for "bigger taller" in the player department.

yep, I agree. Even though O'Brien has not proven a thing to us, yet, I like the man and believe that he's going to be the real deal.

I'm not the most sunshiney optimistic person, but something about his demeanor and approach to the game really impresses me. And the way players talk about him is more than just a coach. They seem to sincerely like and respect the man, and that kind of relationship can often inspire great things.

Like you said, we all hope so. Houston is long suffering in that regard. This town would explode if our football team were to achieve greatness.

I think patience with Kubiak was the right thing to do. We were still considered an expansion team when he took over & we were really a failed expansion team.

This team has a lot more talent than the team Kubiak took over. Heck, we've got the best defensive player in the league & Kubiak had two probowlers (I think).

It may be four or five years before we're considered Super Bowl contenders again... if that's what you mean. But we should be contending for a wild card spot pretty soon (top 6 of 16 teams in a weak AFC) & the division not too far behind.

The latest I heard was we traded Mallet back to New England for Tom Brady and their entire O line. They gave us their next 3 first round picks. This could be just a rumor of course.
Now those are the sort of lies I like
:kingkong:

Edit:
Of course with our luck, we probably threw in J.J.Watt and Andre Johnson just to sweeten the pot

I've seen the term "placeholder" used to describe Mallett a lot. Can a 26 year old who's never had a chance to run an offense really be given such a strict definition? That would be assuming to know exactly what the kid is capable of, and I don't think O'Brien or Godfrey and certainly not the fans, know this for certain.

He hasn't taken a gametime snap in a Texan uniform and he's been called everything from a scrub to a placeholder to O'Brien's guy all along. How about a low risk opportunity that O'Brien believes can do a lot of the things he wants out of the position that he wanted to see what he could get out of?

Yo no se ...
