Ryan Mallett traded to Texans

I never made the connection until I did an image search... We traded for Scumbag Steve. :littlelol:

:vincepalm: I love me some AJ but he isn't a brain surgeon, calm down with these outlandish posts.
We're not talking about brain surgery, only about elementary English. The inability to speak it is a reliable indication of stupidity. The only thing outlandish is denying it.

I guess Terry Bradshaw was a complete bum in the NFL then and Fitzpatrick is a future HOFer

So basically what you are saying is, you have never, ever misused a word in a sentence your entire life. Because if you have, that makes you an idiot.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest by your definition, you are an idiot.

Here is my biggest question about the trade for Mallett. Common knowledge knows that O'Brien has coveted Mallett before the draft. Then WHY did it only happen the weekend before the season starts?????????

Maybe the Pats asking price was too high earlier in the off season. Maybe they realized the market was slim and got what they could.

The only thing that makes sense is that the asking price was too high until this week.

O'Brien might not even be sure about Mallet, but he probably knew that Case was not going to cut it and Savage is not ready to even be a backup at this point.

By the way Boudreaux, how much was a 1912 Silver Ghost Rolls Royce on the Titanic worth at 2 am April 15, 1912? Circumstances matter.
Roughly one thousand pounds Sterling. Plus the cost of storage/shipping aboard the Titanic.

It's worth over 4.7 million pounds today.

Why do you ask?
:D

edit: and that includes the set of sterling silver decanters.

Nope. Bradshaw learned, it just took some time. Mallett can learn too, but when?

It's called malapropism, in case you don't know. I may have done it but I don't remember when, other than when I was trying to be funny.

Knowing the staff at Texans.com, it may have been a misquotation. Heavenly hell, fellas, all I did was point out a possible concern!!

I agree, that's the only thing that makes sense... except I don't think there's any "might" about it. If he was sure about Mallet being a starter, no price is to high. Well, nothing within reason & if BB was willing to eventually take a conditional 7th two drafts from now, I'm sure they were asking for reasonable compensation...

Well, maybe Mallet was absolutely against negotiating a long term deal. That also makes sense. That may have been the hold up.

Hold on, I've got to think about that.

It's worth absolutely nothing. It's at the bottom of the Atlantic. If you know that car was never going to make it off the boat, it's worth nothing.

Because the price BB was asking and because they knew the price was going to go down, possibly even to nothing (if Mallett was cut outright.)

Now, if Mallet does get cut, then there's a chance for a bidding war over him. Most teams weren't going to trade picks for him but if he hit the open market, then he would have his option about which place to go. His best option would be Houston but it could have pushed his price up.

So BB and OB did each other a favor. OB gave BB a draft pick for Mallet -- a pretty inconsequential draft pick -- so at least BB could save some face and get SOMETHING for him and BB gave OB Mallett instead of letting him hit the open market. Win-win.

Well start sending out your resume to Bob Kraft and all the talking heads since you're the only genius to ever figure out Mallett was over-drafted.

I wonder what it would be worth if you could recover it on 9-3-14....
Circumstances do matter....:tiphat:

I think the point Icak was trying to make was if you're up to your eyeballs in sinking ship and freezing cold water, you'd gladly trade that car for a lifeboat, if you even thought of that car at all. At least that's what I took away from the question.
:fingergun:

you might have a point there although, according to records, the Titanic sunk below the waves at 2:20 am. But since it hit the iceberg a little before 1:00 I imagine by 2:00 the two halves of the ship were headed toward vertical and the value of that Rolls was rapidly diminishing.
:D

...was that on the Wunderlich?

Mike Tyson could not talk very good but he had pretty decent ring record.

I don't know if anyone has posted this but I found it to be a good read.

Ryan Mallett's preseason with the Patriots was statistically underwhelming, but the eye in the sky doesn't lie. The Houston Texans just nabbed themselves a terrific quarterback.

Like most Texans fans, I was skeptical when first hearing about Bill O’Brien making a move to acquire Ryan Mallett. The former Arkansas Razorback and New England Patriot was a completely unknown commodity with just one year left on his contract, and his most notable claim to fame was tumbling in the 2011 NFL Draft for a plethora of off-the-field concerns. Even for a conditional sixth round pick, I questioned what sort of value Ryan Mallett could bring to the team.

is that same as priapism?

Google searching a big word to sound brainy won't win you any points with me.

Hold on, I've got to think about that.

So... since he is a Texans, we can continue to negotiate with him for a long term deal right? I mean other than Rick Smith's policy that is.

Mallett wearing knee brace during practice?

What's up with that?

Worn it for years.

That's part of the "immobility" issue. Although, after watching him play a few times, he's nowhere near as immobile as I would have though, nowhere near as immobile as Schaub was.

Such a silly reason to worry. I'll go ahead and form my opinion of Mallett based on his performance on the field rather than one sentence from a website.

Ryan Mallett is from freaking Arkansas. You can probably count the residents that are more well spoken than him on one hand.

He's from Texas.... his nickname is Big Tex. He only played in Arkansas.

Exactly. His value after the decision was made to carry 2 QBs was far different than before they drafted the 3rd in the 1st place.

Yes and I would expect this to be an exception to the rule. No distraction in negotiating in this circumstance.

Worn it for years.

Yeah he is not fleet of foot but he isn't at all a statue either. Plenty of wheels to have run Kubiak's WCO and damn that arm would have been nice on some of those boots.

Having read all the responses to your question, there is one possibility which was not mentioned and which I heard on a radio analysis of the trade. Belichick traditionally goes with only 2 QB's, which I did not know previously. He knew Mallet would be leaving after this season and needed a replacement. But having drafted Garoppolo, he still didn't know what he had in the young QB. The trade didn't materialize earlier because Belichick was holding onto Mallet in case Garoppolo didn't make enough progress to start the season as Brady's backup. By the end of training camp he was convinced he could go into the season with only Brady and Garoppolo, so only then was he comfortable with unloading Mallet.
