Who Do you think Bill O'Brien Will Hire As OC?

The main rumor that I've heard on this is George Godsey - who's currently the TE coach for the Pats. He's been with NE for three years, although this is his first year as TE coach (Prior to 2013, that position was filled by the guy everyone expects to be our next O-Line coach).

Godsey coached under O'Brien for one year at NE, and prior to that, he'd been on staff for George O'Leary at Central Florida. As you might guess given that info., there is a Georgia Tech connection, as Godsey played (QB) at Georgia Tech while O'Leary was HC, and O'Brien was OC there.

Assuming he's the guy (and it obviously couldn't be finalized prior to the Pats season ending), his resume seems kind of light, but he does have 10 years coaching experience, and these days NFL OC's in their early to mid 30's (or younger) isn't that unusal. If Crennel (or someone of similar gravitas) is landed to handle the D, O'Brien will probably be able to oversee things on the offensive side a bit more (Yeah, kinda like Kubes the first few years, but without Richard Smith and Frank Bush as his DC's).

Another Crennel connected D coach to be hired.

PDS @PatDStat
#Texans RT @Kevin_Noon: Multiple sources telling us that #Buckeyes coach Mike Vrabel is leaving to take job with Texans

PDS @PatDStat
FWIW Vrabel played under Crennel at NE and KC when he left to be the HC there. Possible connection happening. #Texans

Was just about to post the news about Vrabel.

Sounds like we're setting things up for Crennel.

But... oh noes... he's hiring guys he knows!?!?

:wadepalm:

Albert Breer ‏@AlbertBreer
Yup, that too (on Vrabel) RT @BenDuBose @AlbertBreer also played for Crennel in KC

Also, Vrabel was with O'Brien in New England in 2007 and '08, and played for likely Texan DC Romeo Crennel from 2001-04.

I can say that @CoachVrabel50 built a reputation as a fantastic recruiter for Buckeyes in his 3 years. Now, he'll likely work with JJ Watt.*

Ohio State DL coach Mike Vrabel going to Texans, I'm told. Tough loss for Bucks, good get for Texans. 1st reported by http://BuckeyeGrove.com
* Likely a different position group.

Cool on Mike Vrabel. I remember him as a player and did not know he started a coaching career. He will be a great teacher for the LBs. Very versatile player, iirc.

LB Coach.

So updating the coaches/guess list...

George Godsey -- OC(?)
Brian Ferentz -- OL
Stan Hixon -- WRs
Charles London -- RBs

Mike Vrabel -- LBs
Anthony Midget -- Safties(?)
John Butler -- CBs(?)

Bill Kollar -- DL

Craig Fitzgerald -- Strength & Conditioning
Jim Bernhardt -- QC

Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

Dude was a stud at lb for new england and kc. Hopefully he has some input on who to put next to Cushing. Because sharpton and reed aren't the answer. But it does seem crennel will take the reins after the east/west game.

Mike Vrabel was the LB coach at Ohio State for the past couple years. He was also a recruiter for them, and was one of the coaches Urban Meyer kept on staff when he took over the team. He had a good career, won 3 rings with the Pats, and even played a little TE in goal line sets for the Patriots. I hope he does well, but this will be his first coaching job in the NFL.

I think a Romeo style 3-4 means someone like Sharpton is out of town. I think reed is more likely to move inside now.

Whatever dc we end up with better damn well make sure Brice McCain is not on the field. The dc will have less credibility for me instantly if McCain is getting anything other then special teams reps.

I must confess that this list of BoO'Bs is starting to look kinda sexy

Really like this hire. Vrabel was one of the smartest defensive players in the league when he was playing. Which wasn't that long ago. Heck, he may be better than most guys we have at LB right now...

He is going to vault up the coaching ranks. Wouldn't be surprised to see him become a DC sooner than later.

Howza about "the sexy" of this one...????

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL
New coach Bill O'Brien is interviewing Mike Munchak for the Texans' offensive line job on Friday.

Munchak is one of the most popular and respected athletes in Houston history. What a coup it would be for O'Brien to get him.

Munchak is regarded as one of the NFL's best O line coaches. If they hire him, they should hire Bruce Matthews as his assistant OL coach.

Munchak spent 32 years with the Oilers/Titans before he was fired as their head coach last week. He played left guard during 12-year career.

Doubt it happens. Munch is getting HC interviews. But one can hope...

Damn dude, if you won the lottery would you b!tch about the taxes for the rest of your life?

Why can't I hope that our players don't play dirty? I don't like dirty play. What's the big deal in that? Sorry that's such a crime. Are those guys not dirty players? Is it a desired thing to have players who play that way? Am I in the dark on this? Is there something I should be enlightened about?

Munchak is a Houston Oilers fan favorite, but I have no ties to him. If he comes, I don't want him to replicate Titans thuggery. That's that.

Better yet, someone should start them a thread. Let them b**** at each other all day.

Yup. It has entertainment value. Just the wrong place for it. Should start a new forum on the board called "The Thunder Dome" where combatants can have a face off...maybe mix in an obstacle course or a youtube smack off linked by the opposing sides. Give them an alloted time or # of post and then other members could vote for the victor. Whatever.

Anyway, i'd be thrilled to have munch here. Nice catch if we can get him.
