Yes and that would be to Nico's advantage in my opinion. And thats what the franchise tag is for.

It's not like Caserio doesn't have the cap space to extend Collins. No need for the franchise tag. The benefits of dumpster diving. And thats what the franchise tag is for.
Why? Bring in a hot prospect in this draft plus trade for a WR1. Then decide how much you want to spend on Nico during season. We have to change our mindset that our guys are going to flee elsewhere and we are going to be left destitute. We're sitting at a different poker table this off season.

Because that’s the nature of the business now. Players are getting paid big time after a breakout season. Therefore, Nick probably want to lock him up before he has another explosive season. It probably would be cheaper to do it now versus next offseason. Why? Bring in a hot prospect in this draft plus trade for a WR1. Then decide how much you want to spend on Nico during season. Just football?!¿ What you talking about? You're comparing football to a relationship with a human? This is football!Hey, I've had bad relationships, too. But this is just football.
Depends on what you trade; who you trade for and how much you pay 'em. I do appreciate you being honest though.Trading for a WR1 to pay that person the money you could be paying Nico? That doesn’t make sense. The Titans traded away AJ Brown, tried to draft his replacement in Treylon Burks, to end up just paying similar money to Calvin Ridley that they could have paid AJ Brown. A bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush.
Keep drafting sure. But trading away draft picks and paying for a WR1 when you potentially already have one on the team? No thanks. IMHO.

If you give me like 5 seconds warning, I will definitely hide. LOLI am all out of bad attitude and sarcasm. I will fill back up and get you next go around.
I think the Texans realize that this is their first shot at a Super Bowl. And have acted accordingly. That doesn't mitigate chances for future Super Bowl appearances. There will be personnel and coaching losses along the way. But with CJ and DeMeco, the Texans should be contenders for the foreseeable future.I think at this point we should realize that Texans see this year as their best shot at a SB run.
What have they done that reminds you of the Rams?I think at this point we should realize that Texans see this year as their best shot at a SB run. They will have Diggs and Collins which is very unlikely to be the case next year. They can draft a WR, which I believe they will, but this is the only year they have Dell, Collins and Diggs for sure on the field together. Not only that but does anyone really believe Slowik will go another year without a HC job if he does anything close to what he did last year? Many of these moves remind me of the Rams, possibly making future years tougher in order to get the best shot possible this year. Its worked for the Rams, they got their trophy, so here's hoping it works for us to.
They’re spending the money on big name players while their core franchise players are young. I believe the Rams did the same thing. What have they done that reminds you of the Rams?
Sure they traded for Diggs on the cheap. But they had the extra 2nd from the trade down. It's nothing like what the Rams did .
Caserio, Ryans are doing exactly what should've been happening for the last 2 decades. Building through the draft, trades and FA. Of course to build a team like this costs more money. Now that BOB, Janice are no longer running the team it appears that Cal, Hannah are in it to win it rather than maximize profits.
Agreed, but they still have all of their draft picks this year and going forward. I know they don't have a 5th this year but you get what I'm talking about. The Rams traded future picks for win now players. The Texans not so much. They’re spending the money on big name players while their core franchise players are young. I believe the Rams did the same thing.
Perfect time to go for it all.
A slight correction as I think they are in it to win it but can continue to maximize their profits. I hope I am a prophet on this. What have they done that reminds you of the Rams?

Philly has been doing that since the Andy Reid days. They will always pay guys earlyCollins just smiled at Devonte Smith 3 year extension for $75 m that begins after his remaining two contract years.
Much of that is funny money, with $34 million guaranteed.Collins just smiled at Devonte Smith 3 year extension for $75 m that begins after his remaining two contract years.
I still think it will take over $100 million to re-sign Nico. We might find out this offseason. If I put on my tin-foil hat, you can make the argument that Diggs is going to take away some of Nico's receptions, thereby lowering Nico's contract extension next year. I don't really believe that was the motivation, but it could be the outcome.
Fantasy sites do it every yearI haven't seen that in football, but I will look when I have more time.
If we have a more effective run game, that'll lower receptions as well.If I put on my tin-foil hat, you can make the argument that Diggs is going to take away some of Nico's receptions, thereby lowering Nico's contract extension next year. Have you found any to be accurate? I mean if it's a guy on the same team in the same offense, I guess that's not difficult. But a new WR on a new team in a new offense and the ripple effects on other players? I'd like to see how much effort they put into that?Fantasy sites do it every year
Also if the Texans have more and larger leads in the 2nd half of games. If we have a more effective run game, that'll lower receptions as well.
Just looked at ESPNs post draft FF mock draft. Here's where the Texans top players landed:Have you found any to be accurate? An effective run game will give the Texans the ability to close out games as well. Running to wind down the clock and getting that final game-finishing first down in the 4th quarter would make me (and my health) much happier. If we have a more effective run game, that'll lower receptions as well.
Not necessarily as I hope our increase in passing plays will allow better run production without necessarily increased running plays. If we have a more effective run game, that'll lower receptions as well.
I just hope the 4 minute offense is better this yr and for this to happen the run game has to improve. Not necessarily as I hope our increase in passing plays will allow better run production without necessarily increased running plays.
I understand what you're saying but for the most part I hope Slowick keeps the accelerator pressed in the full down position! Also if the Texans have more and larger leads in the 2nd half of games.
Looks like we know who WR1 is going forward.
It's cheaper to extend players earlier rather than later in most cases.Great deal! 17.5 per on the guarantee. Buy early

Hopefully WR1, on any given play, is the guy that's open!Looks like we know who WR1 is going forward.
And that’s whoever is opened lol. The wealth will be spread around by CJ.Looks like we know who WR1 is going forward.

Does that change if Diggs signs similar deal?Looks like we know who WR1 is going forward.
I think this signing means that Diggs is most likely a 1 year rental. SB or bust.Does that change if Diggs signs similar deal?
Damn I would've rather picked brian Thomas in the draft. Definitely not a fan of 1 year rentalsI think this signing means that Diggs is most likely a 1 year rental. SB or bust.
