NFL Random Thought of the Day

In other news, grass is green and the sky is blue. .

Handwriting has been on the wall for weeks, if not months.

He will do a good job there. This is very much like Ryans coming to Houston. It’s where he belongs. I expect the Pats to be relevant again pretty quickly.

Depends on the coordinators.

I could see Vrabel flaming out similar to McDaniels everywhere.

Really strange they didn’t just hire him last season. I guess Kraft really had a “succession plan” in mind with Mayo.

Like all owners, they make mistakes tinkering with their toy. What separates the good owners from the bad are the ones who let the football people do their job and stay out of it.

I know

But now it’s official

Carry on

Or admit their mistakes and quickly move on from them.

A painful injury that can be played thru with pregame injections.

Bo Nix played with a transverse process fracture in his back
By Charean Williams

Broncos quarterback Bo Nix popped up on the injury report with a back issue in Week 13 before the Broncos played the Browns on Dec. 2. He played all 66 snaps in the 41-32 win and never appeared on the report again with the injury.
It turns out Nix had a transverse process fracture in his back he played through.

“The biggest week was I had a transverse process fracture in my back,’' Nix said Monday, via Mike Klis of 9News. “That week got treatment, made it through that week. Monday Night Football was a stretch where we were all kind of banged up. And I wasn’t going to miss the first Monday night game. I got treatment on it and then we were fortunate to have an off (bye) week the next week and it kind of went away after that.

“That moment was annoying, but we all play with something.”

It was obvious during the Nov. 24 win over the Raiders that Nix was in some pain as he winced after being slammed on his back by Maxx Crosby. Nix, though, played all 68 snaps of that game despite saying Monday the injury happened earlier in the game, with Crosby’s hit exasperating the pain.

Nix played five more regular-season games and the playoff loss to Buffalo after he broke his back. Yet, he finished with 3,775 passing yards and 29 touchdown passes while also rushing for four more touchdowns and catching a touchdown.

“I think that’s the No. 1 quality everybody likes about him is his toughness,’' right tackle Mike McGlinchey said. “He’s shown it time-in and time-out. And it’s not just the physical toughness with playing through something like that or whatever he’s going through physically but the mental up-and-down of being a rookie quarterback and being the face of our franchise and all the pressure that comes with that and the way he handled it. Bo’s toughness is why he’s going to be who he’s going to be. It’s been really impressive to watch.”

Jerry Jones didn't allow Mike McCarthy to interview for the Bears HC job only to fire him days later...................Typical Jones class!!!!!!
Jones didn't fire anyone. They were still in talks about length of contract, so there was goodwill on both sides to continue working together.

Those talks came to a head & Jones is now allowing McCarty to interview with whomever he wishes.

Something that I've also heard from 2 other sources besides the one below in the Dallas organization.

The charitable interpretation is this was a leverage play. The NFL Network’s Tom Pelissaro reports that length of contract was the sticking point in the negotiations, and it’s not hard to concoct a scenario in which Jones sought to choke out McCarthy’s other job prospects in order to bully him into taking a shorter, team-friendly deal. Looks like they've come to their senses and put a roof on the thing. It's not like God wants to watch that Shiite.

It is not a moveable roof...............and the proposed roof is clear plexiglass..............I guess the architects didn't learn anything from the Astrodome.

Ravens claim Diontae Johnson, who is ineligible to play this postseason
By Michael David Smith

Diontae Johnson is back with the Ravens. Sort of.

The Ravens claimed Johnson today after he was placed on waivers by the Texans yesterday. But under NFL rules, Johnson is ineligible to play for the rest of the postseason and doesn’t officially go on the Ravens’ roster until after the Super Bowl. And

Johnson becomes a free agent in March, so he’s really not going to be part of the Ravens in any meaningful sense.

So why claim Johnson? From the Ravens’ standpoint, it likely has to do with compensatory picks. If Johnson signs with another team in free agency, he’ll count as a player the Ravens lost toward the compensatory pick formula, which awards picks to teams that lose more players than they sign. So perhaps Johnson’s contract with some other team will result in the Ravens getting a late-round compensatory pick in 2026. The Ravens are always one of the most forward-thinking NFL teams about compensatory picks, and this is another example of that.

A third-round pick of the Steelers in 2019, Johnson has at times looked like a very talented and promising wide receiver. But his career hit the skids in 2024, when he was first traded from the Steelers to the Panthers, then traded from the Panthers to the Ravens, then cut by the Ravens and claimed by the Texans, and now cut by the Texans and claimed by the Ravens.

He’ll try to sign on somewhere in 2025. Depending on what kind of contract he signs, the Ravens may benefit in 2026.

Random thought. What is it about the Steelers front office that they can find WR talent like Antonio Brown, Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson and now George Pickens who start off their Steelers careers with so much promise and then they go totally nuts? Is it something in their psych profiles? Is it because they are not big WRs, they get concussed and their personalities change?

It's so weird and it has happened too frequently to be a coincidence.

It’s the water.

In the Astrodome, they had to paint the plexiglass white because of the heat and the glare...............not to mention, that the plexiglass wouldn't allow the planted grass to grow anyway.
With grow lights I don't think the grass would be a problem these days. Real Madrid keep their grass field in an underground structure with artificial lighting when not used.

Since the proposed stadium is anticipated to have artificial turf, that will not be a factor. The heat generation and glare would remain a concern.
