What are the tiebreakers for NFL Draft picks?

Draft picks are awarded in order of lowest winning percentage, and the tiebreaker is opponents’ winning percentage, with the team that played the easier schedule picking first. If the teams have the same strength of schedule, division or conference tiebreakers are applied. If the divisional or conference tiebreakers are not applicable, or ties still exist between teams of different conferences, ties will be broken the following tie-breaking method:
  1. Head-to-head, if applicable
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games (minimum of four)
  3. Strength of victory in all games
  4. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed in all games
  5. Best net points in all games
  6. Best net touchdowns in all games
  7. Coin toss
The 18 non-playoff teams get the first 18 picks. The six wild card round playoff losers get picks 19-24, the four divisional round losers get picks 25-28, the conference championship game losers get picks 29 and 30, the Super Bowl loser gets pick 31 and the Super Bowl winner gets pick 32.

WR1s really can be mercenaries hopping from team to team in the modern NFL. Hill just got an extension from the Fins. But seeing the reality of the situation relying on Tua at QB has him looking for a new team:

Jets request interview with Josh McCown for head coach
By Myles Simmons
Published January 6, 2025 01:02 PM

The Jets and Josh McCown could be headed for a reunion.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jets have put in a request to interview McCown for their head coaching vacancy.

McCown, 45, is in his first year as Vikings quarterbacks coach after serving in that role for the Panthers last season.

A longtime quarterback, McCown played two seasons for the Jets in 2017 and 2018. He compiled a 5-11 record as a starter for the club, throwing for 3,465 yards with 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

A third-round pick in 2002, McCown appeared in 102 games with 76 starts for the Cardinals, Lions, Raiders, Panthers, Bears, Buccaneers, Browns, Jets, and Eagles in his long career.

McCown was rumored to be in the mix for the Texans head coaching job a couple of years ago but to that point did not have any coaching experience. Now that he’s served on an NFL staff for two seasons, that has changed. McCown has also done a nice job of developing Sam Darnold — who he shared a QBs room with as a player on the Jets in 2018.

Tax payers will be ultimately on the hook for a new stadium for the Commanders. :roast:

RFK Stadium bill officially becomes law
By Mike Florio
Published January 6, 2025 05:23 PM

For those of you remember Schoolhouse Rock, you know the drill. A bill remains just a bill until the President signs it into law.
Today, the RFK Stadium bill became law.

Via Meagan Flynn of the Washington Post, President Joe Biden applied his John Hancock to the bill that gives the District of Columbia control of the RFK Stadium site for 99 years. This allows D.C. to redevelop the 170-plus-acre tracts for purposes that include a sports stadium.

The move officially opens the door for D.C. to negotiate with the Commanders, at a time when the franchise is trying to land a new stadium deal.

Opposition to the effort included a claim that it would be a waste of taxpayer money. While the bill (now law) devotes no federal funding to the building of a stadium, a stadium isn’t going to fund itself. And with the team setting up a competition between D.C. and Maryland and perhaps Virginia, it’s unlikely that the team will pay for the stadium by itself.

So, at some point, public money of some type will be introduced to the equation, in whichever jurisdiction the new Commanders stadium is built.

McCarthy's contract expires Wednesday, but the Cowboys hold exclusive negotiating rights through Jan. 14. After that McCarthy would become a coaching free agent.

It would be but no one listens to that blowhard.
If it happens, he says he will put an end to the Aaron Rodgers "country club."

Ryan, appearing Monday morning on ESPN New York radio, ripped the future Hall of Famer for skipping the team's mandatory minicamp last June to take a vacation to Egypt. He also criticized the organization's "abysmal" leadership for condoning it.

Browns G.M. Andrew Berry expects Myles Garrett to remain and retire in Cleveland
By Josh Alper
Published January 7, 2025 07:13 AM

Browns defensive end Myles Garrett said near the end of the regular season that he wants the team “to be able to illuminate, illustrate” a path that will lead to winning in the immediate future because he’s not interested in being part of an extended rebuilding process.

Garrett didn’t delve into what he’ll do if he doesn’t get or doesn’t like that plan, but it’s hard not to think there might be some thought to moving on with Garrett moving into his 30s and in the final two years of his current contract. During a Monday press conference, Browns General Manager Andrew Berry said that there have been none of those thoughts on his end.

“In terms of Myles, my anticipation and expectation is that he’ll have a direct ticket from Cleveland to Canton at the end of this year and I expect him to be here and retire a Brown, quite frankly,” Berry said, via the team’s website.

Expectations and reality don’t always meet, but Garrett made it pretty clear what needs to happen to bring them together in Cleveland.

"I'd just be too excited," Jackson said after Tuesday's practice. "That's all. Too antsy. I'm seeing things before it happened, like, 'Oh, I got to calm myself down.' But just being more experienced, I've found a way to balance it out."

AT&T Stadium faces another potential weather mess for a big game
By Mike Florio
Published January 8, 2025 10:16 AM

Fourteen years after an ice storm marred the one and only North Texas Super Bowl, weather is poised to impact the playing of a fairly significant college football game there.

On Friday night, Texas and Ohio State will square off in the Cotton Bowl, which also is the CFP semifinal.

Via the Austin American-Statesman, the National Weather Service expects an “impactful snowfall” to begin Thursday morning and to last until Thursday night. And that’s a problem, since the snow/ice removal strategy in Dallas consists of hiding under the bed and waiting for it to melt.

The melt should begin on Friday, when temperatures will approach 40 degrees.

For now, a winter storm warning has been issued by the NWS.

The current forecast calls for two to four inches of snow, and up to one tenth of an inch of ice.

Obviously, weather won’t affect the game; the stadium has a retractable roof. Getting there could be an issue.

Then there’s the fact that the 2011 storm resulted in ice falling and injuring six people only two days before Super Bowl XLV.

Tweaks to the roof supposedly will keep that from happening again. However, Mother Nature is undefeated. And the possibility of another storm like the one that impacted the Super Bowl and that might

For now, postponing the game reportedly isn’t an option. Regardless of what happens, it won’t enhance the case to let Jerry World host another Super Bowl.

Stroud at 21…

2024 stats: 17 games | 63.2 pct | 3,727 pass yds | 7.0 ypa | 20 pass TD | 12 INT | 233 rush yds | 0 rush TD | 6 fumbles

If you're searching for an example of how a bad offensive line can hamper an entire offense -- and a scintillating talent under center -- look no further than these Texans, who have failed to protect Stroud and are suffering for it. Stroud rightfully doesn't trust his offensive line, which seems to have thrown a wrench into his mental process while playing quarterback. He's made some uncharacteristically bad decisions as a passer and struggled to complete simple checkdowns in a recent blowout loss to the Ravens on Christmas Day. It's disheartening to watch, especially after seeing what Stroud can accomplish when he's properly protected. Losing two of his top three receivers for the season hasn't helped, either, but we all know what needs to be addressed in order to remedy this situation. Hopefully that puts Stroud back on track in what can still be an outrageously successful career.
