Trevor Lawrence says his ankle “held up” during Sunday’s game

The Jaguars didn’t get the win on Sunday, but on a positive note quarterback Trevor Lawrence got through the game just fine.

Lawrence kept his starting streak alive despite going down with a right high ankle sprain during Monday night’s loss to Cincinnati. He finished the Week 14 loss to Cleveland 28-of-50 passing for 257 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

“I felt pretty good, all things considered,” Lawrence said in his postgame press conference. “That was a positive out of today. I guess that’s the only one. I didn’t re-injure my ankle, or tweak or anything. I felt pretty good. It held up. I was able to move when needed. It was good.”
 
In the Panthers 28-6 loss, Sunday’s performance was a low point for rookie QB Bryce Young and the offense. Young completed 36 percent of his passes and posted his worst passer rating of the season while failing to lead the Panthers to a TD. All this while the running game registered 204 yds.

I haven't paid any attention to the offside penalty at the end of the Chief Bills game, but it's on the news with a still shot of the play. I have a question.

KC's OL is lined up in a Vee formation with the OTs about 2 yards behind the ball. The right side WR is in front of the OT, lined up maybe 2 feet behind the ball. The player who was called offsides is lined up on the ball, 2 yards in front of the LT.

Now the ball is hidden by a helmet but the angle of the Center's arm indicates the ball is approximately as shown by the blue line showing the line of scrimmage.

The player called offsides is behind the blue line with the right leg angled a bit forward such that the toe of his shoe is touching the blue line, maybe by a couple of inches, but not by much. From the image I'm viewing, I would guess he is lined up with the forward nose of the ball.

Does anyone know where the line of scrimmage is, in relation to the blue line? Now my understanding is that the forward nose of the ball is placed on the line of scrimmage. Is this correct?

If this player is offside, it's by no more than an inch or two. If the line of scrimmage is the center of the blue line, he's not offsides, imo.

Asked what his coaching advice to Toney would be this week, Reid said, "Normally he looks over to the sideline and just gets an OK [from the official]. On that one he just happened not to. Just make sure you check, make sure you check with the guy on the side just to see if you're aligned ... He was 2 inches away from or an inch from being legal.''

I just find this a bit hilarious after we got in a hissy for the "BS" call on Dell in the Jag game that nullified the deep completion.

Look at TK's photo an understand that the camera angle is on the Bills side of the LOS. He looks well offsides on that angle, forget about an angle even with the LOS.

I understand the controversy now. The receiver took the same position in lining up multiple times during the game and was not called for it. The ref waited until a critical play at the end of the game that swung the outcome to the Bills.

One other small point but I'll nit pik. The various photos that I've seen posted, if you zoom in on the ball, you'll see the center is holding the ball in a vertical position prior to making the snap. This was not the original position placed by the ref. Also, one other point. It was later explained the ref could throw the flag because the player was blocking his view of the ball. The rules allow the flag to be thrown when the receiver is crowding the line too much so as to block his view down the line.

I'd like to see a clear view of the sideline stick before deciding how much the receiver was offside. But it's not important enough to pursue any further. The consensus is he was offside.

2 in the offensive backfield, 2 on the LOS, 3 in the defensive backfield. Seems like they have the field covered. But the game is so,so fast that these guys can't keep up. Is the answer to the problem more officials? Or would that be more officials making more mistakes? Skycam or cams operated by officials? Or is it just better officials.

The NFL is the only professional league I know of with part-time officials. They are teachers, lawyers, accountants, etc that fly in on the weekend to call games. The officials generally come from the college football ranks, where they are also part-time. Does the NFL need full-time officials? That train and practice during the week and have more interaction with each other? Is there a way to cull the officials through cognative, vision, and athletic testing? This is a multi-$billion industry that has it's weakest point teaching American History during game week rather than preparing for games.

Where do you think the LOS is? Where do you think the receivers right foot is?

Last night I also pointed out that the receiver had been lining up the same way multiple times during the game and was not being called for it. The refs waited until a critical play at the end of the game which swung the game to the Bills.

Don't know. Toney had 29 snaps. How many of those was he on the line? I just know it was impossible for that official to know that play would go for a TD .

I'm not taking a pro-officiating stance. I'm just showing why this play is not a part of some grand conspiracy to determine the outcome of the game.

Full time officials wont make a difference.

The NFL is exactly the way that God'ell/Gamblers want it to be.
 
Two inches my ass. I watched that game. Toney was offsides by a good 2 feet. It’s a stupid play by a repeatedly stupid player that continues to make bone headed plays. Toney and Boyd are the stupidest receivers in the NFL. It wasn’t close. If it was…I suspect that maybe they let it slide but tell him after the play that next time it’s getting called.
 
With 4 weeks left there have been 55 QBs start an NFL game this season. Only 16 have started all their games. It sounds like Nick Mullens will start instead of Josh Dobbs for the Vikes on Sunday, and Mills likely gets the call for the Texans. That would make the numbers 57 and 15. If that seems crazy, 71 QBs started at least 1 game last year, with only 8 starting all 17 games.

Considering a couple of QBs were likely held out the final game, in which 11 QBs started at least 16 games, 9 of those 11 QBs teams made the playoffs. Of the 14 playoff spots currently held after 14 weeks, all but 3 are teams whose QB has started every game.
 
If pat mahomes wants the refs to tell his guy hes not lined up right?

Should the refs tell defenders they are in the neutral zone and negate a free play to throw deep?

I really don't understand the bs about this call. He was offside and we all see it. It's the whole you can call holding on every play thing

When a ref chooses to call it?

Ultimately it doesn’t matter what I think. IIRC the flag was thrown by the down judge on the left side of the field where Toney was, the BUF side. Wouldn’t surprise me if the Bills kept yelling about it until it was called……

The entire NFL game gives the advantage to the offense now and yet these clowns cry when a LEGIT penalty is called, hilarious. He should’ve been pissed off at that rocks for brains Toney.

Actually it was thrown by the official in front of the KC bench. It was also thrown just before or right when Mahomes threw the ball.
