NFL Random Thought of the Day

Arizona's coaches should be absolutely embarrassed. That's the worst management and coaching I've ever seen on a defensive drive.
I thought they would rush three defenders and have eight of their guys camped out in the end zone. At least seven guys with one in the middle of the field. For only two defenders to be there playing the ball was crazy.

I actually thought bringing some pressure was smart. Rodgers needed some time and Arizona didn't give it to him. Amazing throw & catch beat them. Rodgers threw that ball off his back legs.

Yeah all these "Bruce Arians jock riders" around here just took a big hit.. There's a reason why you always play the clock..you never know what will happen

All of that magic for the Packers defense to let the team down like that? They'll need a good goal line stand now. Force a turnover or field goal.

Amazing game. Arizona deserved it I guess.
I feel bad for Aaron Rodgers though. Gutsy performance.
Not sure who I want to win now. The Patriots may as well repeat.

Hopefully the two games tomorrow will be just as good.
But I don't like any of the four teams on the field tomorrow.

Although, I could cheer for Gary Kubiak, Wade Phillips and Owen Daniels? LOL all are ex Texans. The Steelers are dealing with a lot of key injuries but Big Ben is going to play. Antonio Brown is out though.

I don't care who wins the Panthers versus Seahawks game.
Maybe I'll go for Arizona against either of them in the NFC title game.

**** the Patriots. At this point, I'm pulling for Arizona or Carolina to win it. I wouldn't really mind Seattle, but I don't usually pull for a team to make the Super Bowl three straight years if I don't like them.

Disagree. Don't get cute, don't try to reinvent the wheel. Rush 3, get 8 back, and knock it down.

I've grown to like the Patriots. If nothing else just because a handful of our coaching staff used to be a part of their organization. I could get behind the Patriots or Broncos (current coaching staff and old coaching staff of the Houston Texans).

I don't mind bringing pressure there but if you do you have to jam at the line. You can't just give the WRs a free run downfield since you're giving away the numbers advantage.

It still takes a great play to beat you there but it was a stupid play call, as was the 4th and 20 play call.

I also hated that they repeatedly burned timeouts for no reason, which is an advantage for the offense. It gives them more time to communicate and come up with the right play, which they did after all three timeouts.

I'm a big fan of Arians but he made several questionable decisions in this game. He tried to be way too cute on offense.

He also panicks when the game is in his defense's hands, which is odd as they are one of the rare elite units in the league. It bugs the hell out of me when an offensive head coach rarely has anything to do with the defense, but then tries to get involved in crunch time and make decisions. Nothing good ever happens there. Just zip it and trust your defensive coaches to take care of it.

That game should be the NFLs lead for any advertising deal they are looking for. Insane great game.
I'll try and record it when the NFL Network airs the replay later on. That finish was one of the best finishes I've ever seen, regular season or playoffs. It topped most of the hail mary endings.

It's too bad the Packers offense didn't touch the ball in overtime though. I'd make that one rule change to allow both teams to touch the ball in overtime even after an initial Touchdown. Like college I guess but perhaps make it sudden death once a team has the ball for a second possession.

I know it's unconventional, but Rodgers needed time to throw 41 yards down-field. I probably wouldn't have brought the house on that play, but I liked bringing some pressure instead of giving Rodgers all day to throw the ball. Not conventional, I get that. However, Arizona is a team that loves to bring pressure so that play-call went with their philosophy.

The last 2 minutes of the game plus OT is some of the worst defense I've ever seen in football. At any level. The DB's on both teams should be embarrassed.

Like I said, I'm not against the decision to bring pressure. But if you do you have to help your guys on the back end. Press at the line to make sure the WRs don't have time to get that deep.

Rush five, press four, and play two on the goal line.

Also didn't help that Peterson went full mercenary mode and tried to get the pick instead of swatting it down.

It looked like our secondary back in 2010. The Texans pass defense gave up nearly 270 passing yards per game that year, dead last in the NFL (32nd). Also 33 passing Touchdowns allowed. Tied with the Cowboys for the worst in the NFL that year as well.

And one of those games we lost in 2010 because our atrocious secondary and pass defense? As called by Gus Johnson on CBS! LOL

We've all seen worse pass defense than tonight, sadly enough.

I remember that game and felt bad for Glover Quinn, because he actually tried to do what you're coached to do..which is knock the pass down.. he just swatted it at a really shitty angle.

Oh well, let Jag fans have that one glorious memory.. God knows they haven't had many since

Some interesting numbers...

Packers offensive starters missed combined 30 games this year
Patriots offensive starters missed combined 49 games this year

Packers offensive starters on IR = 1
Patriots offensive starters on IR = 3

Rodgers = 5th straight one or done
Brady = 5th straight conference championship appearance

Perhaps we can hold off on this idea that Rodgers is the best QB in the league.

I think it's getting to the point where it's unfair to compare people to Brady.. I don't even know if you can compare him to Montana anymore.. He's kinda on his own level now, a level above everyone else.

Aaron freaking Rodgers is the greatest Hail Mary passer I've ever freaking seen though :) I still can't believe that game I watched tonight

Anybody watch the press conference after the game? McCarthy and Rodgers both acted like total bitches, making numerous excuses and whining about the referees instead of just manning up and admitting that they didn't get it done.

Aaron Rodgers performed quite well with what he had. The Jordy Nelson loss was huge. I thought they had a 6-10 team when he went down for the year back in the preseason. To be fair, his defense let him down in that overtime loss at Arizona after he made another miraculous throw.

I do remember Tom Brady struggling at times when he didn't have Danny Amendola or Rob Gronkowski. Thankfully for him he has both making big plays in the playoffs. The Patriots looked like a really bad team, and Tom Brady was being sacked and hit a lot, during the few games they played and lost prior to coming to Houston. Once they beat the Texans they refound their mojo again. Gronk was back too. But imagine if Tom Brady played behind the Packers O-Line? He'd be knocked out and probably injured. Aaron Rodgers made it work despite being heavily pressured.

I think the Patriots will repeat as Super Bowl champions. They would have beaten the Packers in Super Bowl 50 which is what I wanted to see. The Pats will beat the Broncos/Steelers in the AFC Championship Game and the Cardinals/Panthers/Seahawks in the Super Bowl.

Time for the Seahawks vs. Panthers game to start on FOX.

Panthers are off to a good start.

How lucky can the Seahawks be? They had no business winning that wild-card game at Minnesota. Blair Walsh was their MVP in that game hooking that chip shot. They're already down 7-0 at Carolina. Their defense is so hyped up beyond words. Giving up a TD on four plays!

Watch the Seahawks fall behind two or three scores and rally back to win. Sort of like the NFC Championship Game last year. I guess when you have Russell Wilson you're never really out of the game.

I'm used to watching the Texans too much.
The game would already be over down 7-0.

Woah. Beast mode is playing but is he truly healthy?
Looks like washed up mode right now. He almost retired not long ago.

Luke Kuechly pick six. 14-0 Panthers now.
Me thinks the Seahawks are in trouble!!!!!
They can't keep getting lucky can they?

Luke Kuechly: What Brian Cushing's career could have been like if not for two major knee injuries and surgeries.

Cam Newton is showing why he should be the league MVP for 2015. I must admit, another Patriots versus Panthers Super Bowl would be intriguing because of Brady versus Newton.

A rematch of the Super Bowl in Houston 12 years ago when the Patriots won by a field goal. The infamous Janet Jackson "nipple slip" at halftime with Justin Timberlake.

Cam Newton has been a guy I've been drooling over for a while. Remember that "trade J.J. Watt" thread somebody made for kicks a while back. The only two quarterbacks I'd have been okay trading Watt for were Aaron Rodgers and Cam Newton.

I said it last week...the Seahawks sleep walking through games was going to catch up to them.

This is a recurring trend where they sleep walk the 1st half then show up the 2nd half and do just enough to sneak out with a win.

Russell Wilson is getting knocked around.
Another turnover because of immense pressure.
It's about to be 28-0 Panthers on this drive.
It could be 42-0 or something silly by halftime at this pace.

You're right. But the way Dom Capers is dialing up his blitzes and pass rush. I think this time it's over for the Seahawks. They bit on more than they can chew with this game.

Oh look. Richard Sherman made a nice play on 3rd down.
Graham Gano makes a 48-yard field goal. Wow.

24-0 Panthers only. Maybe the Seahawks have life. LOL

Russell Wilson goes down again.
Wow guys. He's getting beat up!!!!

Seahawks traded a stud O-Lineman for Jimmy Graham last off-season.
At the time it seemed like a good trade for Seattle but it looks bad now.

This kind of ignorance really ruffles me. There was a stretch this year where Brady got hit 40 times over a 3 game period because the Pats were missing 3 starting OL.

Brady's LT missed 12 games this year. His C missed 8. Those are his two best OL. Two of his starting O-Line ended up being rookies (one undrafted) and his non-rookie OG was forced to play C (which he had never played before) because his O-Line missed 26 combined games. Meanwhile, Rodgers O-Line missed just a combined 10 games.

Rodgers was hit 104 times this year. Brady was hit 97 times. And those numbers are actually a bit misleading because Rodgers scrambles a lot and extends plays which leads to more hits.

At what point do the Seahawks just pull Russell Wilson?
His future health is more important right? This game is over.

I know that Pete Carrol probably thinks they can come back.
But if they are down five or six scores in the second half?
