NFL Random Thought of the Day

Rodgers was hit 104 times this year. Brady was hit 97 times. And those numbers are actually a bit misleading because Rodgers scrambles a lot and extends plays which leads to more hits.
That's what I mean though. Rodgers made a lot of big plays out of nothing. As banged up as the Pats O-Line was I'd still take their backups over some of the Packers starters up front. When Brady struggled his top receiving targets were out also. How many of those sacks were coverage sacks? I'd have to go back and watch those plays.

To be fair though, Brady has no run game right now.
Rodgers has Eddie Lacy. So Brady probably did more with less.

I'm definitely wrong and I think you're right.

Panthers outplaying the Seahawks but you also have to wonder if the field condition was a strategic move by the Panthers. The Seahawks can't even run routes without slipping and are looking for proper cleats. The Panthers don't seem to be having any issues.

That's like the 3rd kid Cam Newton has given the football to after a Panthers Touchdown. He's going to give every kid in the front row behind the end zone a ball. It's not even halftime yet!

Bench Russell Wilson.
Sad but true. I don't think the Seahawks can salvage much out of this game other than protecting Russell Wilson's future health.

I'm ready for the Broncos and Steelers game. It will hopefully be an exciting and close game unlike this one. No Antonio Brown and Big Ben is playing hurt. And the Steelers top two running backs were already out,
Le'Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams.

Going to be tough for a banged up Steelers team, missing most of their best offensive playmakers, to pull off this road win but I don't doubt Big Ben. Bad shoulder and all. Ben Roethlisberger is going to make this an interesting game just like Aaron Rodgers did last night.

Uh oh. Seahawks comeback just started? 31-7 now.
They can't do it again can they? Not this far behind?
This would be an epic collapse, think Oilers-Bills from January 3, 1993...
As Houston sports fans we've seen it all. So anything is possible!

Really wish we had been able to get Lockett instead of Strong. Nothing against Strong, he's solid. But Lockett is a difference maker.

I don't get the "bench Wilson" mantra. The thought never crossed my mind. It's the playoffs and you still have a shot. Benching Wilson would have been insane, imo.

It was 31-0 by the time I turned the game on, but I tend to agree. Russell Wilson has been in the Super Bowl the past two seasons. It's not like he hasn't earned the opportunity to try to lead his team to a comeback. Brian Hoyer, on the other hand...

How do the Steelers always find a way? Talent wise, I'd argue the Texans are just as good at most positions. Well besides the obvious and most important one, quarterback!

Just really torn with this game. Do I want the Texans ex coaching staff to win (head coach and defensive coordinator), or do I want another elite quarterback we passed on in the draft way back in the day to win? Somewhere Dunta Robinson is watching with his "Pay Me, Rick" shoes. We took you instead. He was a good cover corner for a few years.

Kubiak's offense is hot garbage. Good field position multiple times only to get field goals. Where have I seen this movie before?
The Patriots must be licking their chops. They will blow out either of these teams, home or road, next weekend. Looks like they may host the 6th seeded Steelers in the AFC Championship game unless the Broncos come back.

Although the Steelers should have their best playmaker, Antonio Brown, return for that game next Sunday at Foxborough. He nearly passed the concussion protocol this past Friday.

Unless of course, this dead beat Broncos offense wakes up!
Let's go Kubiak. Be aggressive. Change your conservative BS playcalls!!!!

That was some bullsh!t right there. Peyton Manning slid and gave himself up on that play. If a Pittsburgh player hit him that would have been a 15 yard penalty.

A Kubiak-led team, what should be a powerhouse, has 12 points with 11:33 left. The crowd is silent not counting boos.

Been there......................................................................................done that.

Everybody keeps talking about how great the Broncos defense is and rightfully so. But won't they likely be bad next year? Aren't Wade Phillips' defenses usually great the first year and then start to show decline after that? That seems to be the trend every team he has coached at the NFL level including here in Houston.

I wonder, aside from being the source of so much of our misery, why hate Peyton Manning? Kind of a class act if you ask me.
Same here. I said out loud after the game ended that Peyton Manning was always a class act. It's too bad we didn't sign him when he was a free agent after leaving Indianapolis. I have those bad memories of Bob McNair saying that "Matt Schaub was our guy." Ugh. I'd love to go back in time and slap some sense into Mr. McNair.

People said he couldn't work well with Gary Kubiak and I admit it hasn't been the perfect partnership this season. But yet he's on to the AFC Championship game for the second time with the Broncos (first with Kubiak), including one Super Bowl appearance as well, during his tenure with the Denver Broncos.

I need more of a reason than that? I have so many memories of Manning rubbing the defeat in our face. Indy would be ahead 20 points in the 4th and Manning had to get 1 more TD for his stats.

Still, I hope he beats the Patriots next week. I might not be much of a fan of his, but he's definitely better than Brady.

I still want the Patriots to beat the Broncos. It would rub me the wrong way, I'd feel a little bitter to say the least, seeing Gary Kubiak and Wade Phillips in Super Bowl 50 when not too long ago they were 11-1 through 12 games with us!!!! Part of a 12-4 season (best in franchise history).

Each of the four remaining teams have a QB with a unique story that would be fun to watch come to fruition in the SB ...

Manning would get to go out on top (he retires with a SB win, imo) and cap off a monster HoF career
Palmer would get to rejoice in his rise from the bumbling Cincinnati and Oakland ashes to see his former no 1 status come full circle
Newton would get to dab on dem folks on the biggest stage of them all and take flight as an elite
Brady would get to stamp himself as nothing short of the best ever with 5 golden rings

This is gonna be fun ...

I would feel just the opposite. Kubiak is a great guy and I don't entirely blame him that Schaub and the Texans imploded during the 2-14 season. You could tell that season drained Kubiak, even to the point of having a mini-stroke on the field. If I root for the Broncos in anyway (which I will be doing next week), it's because of the Houston connection that team has right now.

I'd like a Denver Arizona SB, with Arizona winning it all. I'd like to see Carson and Fitz get a ring. Plus Kubes losing on the grandest stage.

I like Lynch but I would not want him in a Texans uniform next year. Too expensive.
Beast mode is more like washed up mode at this point in his career. Do we want another Ahman Green? Too much mileage on his body. Only played in 7 games this past season and averaged his fewest yards per carry average in six years. I'd be okay keeping Arian Foster and signing Marshawn Lynch to split carries but no way that will happen. He's looking for top dollar as an excuse not to retire.

I don't want to see Arizona "EVER" win a Super Bowl.
They ain't going to win one before Houston. No way, no how!!!!!
Then again I once said the same thing about New Orleans and well...

He had a sports hernia like JJO/Clowney/Watt. Is Watt Done? Put Lynch on the Pats and look out.

Lynch and Foster are the same age. If we keep Foster it's an $8.9 mil cap hit for 2016. I'd much rather pay Lynch that much or a bit more to be our starter and cut Foster. Foster is the one who should be considering retirement after hamstring injuries, back surgery, and now an achilles injury. The last time Foster played in 16 games in a season was 2012 and Lynch was 2014.

Lynch has hinted towards retirement for the past two off-seasons. It's not so much his age or injuries I'm worried about. It's his determination. That is what made him a great back for all of those years. Once the passion to play is gone you're not the same player.

Did you watch him carry the rock in the playoffs? Granted it was against a stout defense and he was playing hurt. But it was a far cry from the beast mode he used to be. 6 carries for 20 yards. One run was a 9-yard scamper which made his ypc a respectable 3.3. Take that away and he had 5 carries for 11 yards.

He had a couple catches also, but it looked like he mentally checked out of that game. I guess they had to leave the run falling behind 31-0. He used to plow over multiple defenders. Now he goes down at the first sign of contact. I even mentioned early in that game when it was 14-0 Panthers that Marshawn Lynch didn't look right.

This year will be the 12th time in 13th years that the AFC QB in the SB will be Brady, Manning, or Roethlisberger.

Brady, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2011, 2014
Manning, 2006, 2009, 2013
Roethlisberger, 2005, 2008, 2010

If Brady makes it to SB50, that will be 7 SB appearances out of 14 years. Batting .500 smh

Whoa baby: Antonio Cromartie pays $336,000 a year in child support

With 10 kids and two more on the way, Antonio Cromartie likely isn't thinking retirement in the near future.

According to the New York Post, the Jets cornerback pays an estimated $336,000 a year — $3,500 each month per child — in child support for eight children with seven women.

Cromartie, 31, additionally has two children with his wife since 2010, Terricka Cason. Despite getting a vasectomy in 2011, as he revealed in the 2013 book "Collision Low Crossers" by saying, "I got snipped," it was revealed last Wednesday that the couple is expecting twins later this year.

"I didn’t even tell Antonio right away because I didn’t think it was possible," Cason said. "I was going back and forth in my head how it could even happen. In my head we were good to go, we were having free sex! I just really thought that his procedure was the best protection you could have at this point."

Cromartie, 31, signed a four-year, $32 million contract in March last year and was guaranteed a salary of $7 million in 2015. The All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowl selection loses just a small chunk of his salary, though the Jets hold the power to cut him at any time.

Interesting response from Cromartie when his wife told him of the pregnancy Published in US WEEKLY:

"Originally, he was like, 'Oh, [bleep]! Are you serious? How did this happen?' It was shocking news for the both of us. It took me a while to process it, but Antonio stood firm and was saying, 'It's God's will.' And he's been excited the whole time."

It is turning out that this "screwer" has taken on the role of "screwee."

I'd take Gordon on my team any day. Weed suspensions and all.
Yeah the guy is a bit of a knuckle head but he's far from being the type of scumbag like Greg Hardy. He's a great talent but it sucks that he can't help himself with the weed. Personally I don't care if one smokes weed, but when your livelihood depends on you not using it but you still can't help yourself it says a lot about this guys self control.

I'd like to have him too but what good would he do if he keeps getting himself suspended?

I'm not 100% but I vaguely remember this suspension not being because of weed but because of alcohol. I don't think he can drink while being in the program either. I'll look it up later though.
