Next Head Coach

Barring either side having a "deal" in place to get a job (BOB) or get a coach (Texans), I would be mildly surprised to see a separation. whoever would be a week behind with an honest chance at two since Raiders all of a sudden have QB issues.

Six spots are already taken w/o true out of nowhere firings

Rams (LA and young QB)
49ers (well storied history)
Broncos (ready made defense w/QBs?)
chargers (maybe LA/ maybe veteran Qb)
Bills (well not of non-good there)
Jags (florida kinda, young Qb kinda)

McNair jumped on OB early and that hasn't worked if he leaves, I don't think an extra week would be a deal breaker for either side if the rumor is true. That said, I don't think OB will be leaving, but Godsey may

McCoy has a losing record (27-37) in SD with Philip Rivers as his QB. BOB has a winning record (27-21) here with multiple QB's. Wouldn't they be going backwards if they hired McCoy? If they want to fire BOB that's fine but tell me who they could legitimately replace him with that will do a better job. I don't think McCoy is one of those coaches who would do better. JMO.

I like McCoy.

I wouldn't think it's going backwards. O'b definitely had some advantages.

I like how McCoy was able to take what Peyton was good at & create an offense to work with him... helped Peyton to a record season. Freak'n Peyton Manning & helped him be better. Then I like how he helped resurrect Philip Rivers, at least for a little while.

I wanted him back in 2013, but we were still on a Kubiak high.

I think the Texans want to go all in on Brock. I don't think O'b is on board. Unless something changes over the next three weeks, I think that's going to be the main reason behind O'b & the Texans parting ways.

I don't think Savage has a concussion. I think Rick bigdck'd O'b.

If there truly is a rift between o'brien and the FO and Brock ..McNair better fix this sheyot one way or another. Or 2017 will be another wasted season with profitable mediocrity.

I need something to make me excited to see them on offense.

I think the most likely scenario is we hire a new OC to take over Godsey's position. Mike Mccoy would make a lot of sense given his history with Os.

However, the most likely pick that I think OB would be on board with is Doug Marrone now that the Jags season is over. Him and OB are good friends and Marrone/OB used to be on the same coaching staff at Georgia Tech.

Marrone would give us a proven coach on the offensive side of the ball like the FO/fans want.... and still be one of OB's "guys" like OB obviously wants.

With all the jobs opening it would be in O'Brien's best interest to resign and move on. Is he bright enough to make that move? I don't know. He's made kind of a mess here, and repair doesn't look like it's going to be easy or swift.

Harbaugh = YES! That said I can't see how Harbaugh and McNair could ever get along. I'm thinking Harbaugh would not just say no but HELL NO!

I'm of the opinion that Shanahan needs to go be a head coach in college so he can learn how to be a head coach and prove his worth before you give him the keys to Bentley.

You call this team a Bentley? Get a grip.

Has OB shown he's a great coach because he's got a winning record with as many different QBs as he's had to deal with?

Or is OB a bad coach because he created the fucked up mess at QB?

As far as I'm concerned, there is no in-between with this. You either gotta like the guy, or hate him. For now, I hate him. I can change my mind if he actually proves something, but I've seen enough of his offense to know I don't like it.

O'b is as loyal to Godsey as Kubiak was to Dennison. We're not getting a new OC unless we get a new HC.

I've been wondering about this.... What if OB has been approached to dismiss Godsey? As in "you can stay, but your running mate has got to go (when the season ends)"..... It might explain the pouty/uncommunicative Belichick-like post game pressers

I wouldntvmind shanny as HC and Vrabel as DC. Really wouldn't mind RAC as DC but I figure only way to keep vrabel is to promote him.

McCoy's worked with 3-4 pretty different QBs and adjusted his offense pretty much on the fly to go from Orton to Tebow. Just as you said he made it work with Peyton developing Demayrius into a superstar. In SD he adjusted his offense to accommodate what was one of the league's worst offensive lines, starting guys that the Vick era eagles didn't even want. I don't think McCoy stays on the market for long, especially if he's willing to restart as an OC

Kyle Shanahan. Jim Harbaugh

2 good choices but Harbaugh will probably stay at his alma mater, Michigan, and "little Shanny" will probably end up in Denver. Kyle will definitely be a hot commodity for a number of teams.

Harbaugh won't be leaving Michigan for at least 2 more years and possibly through the end of his contract. I do think he will go back to the NFL at some point but that window starts 3-5 years from now. All the rumor mongering over him leaving is just reporters trying to be 'first'. There's no substance to it right now.

What a dysfunctional organization we have people.

The decision to acquire Brock was an act of desperation and hastiness from the owner and his sidekick.

They were so livid after Hoyers performance in the playoff's last season. Not only that but the quarterback circus show in the beginning of that season was truly embarrassing. And I'm talking about from OTA's all the way to the end of the season.

The coach was given his choices of QB'S in the last two seasons and neither one of them worked out.

Now the owner and his sidekick should've included the coach in all business decision concerning players period.

Once Obrien signed off on it, even though he wasn't included, he should have done his job like he did the previous two seasons. But he was butthurt, so he didn't approach it mentally like he did for the guys he wanted.

This team is a complete mess and we still made the playoff's. Now I wonder if all parties were in sync how good this team could've been.

McNair should hire Peyton Manning to be his General Manager and then take Cal and Rick Smith on a 5 year around the world cruise.

Well, since you're in your 70s now, you should consider joining them.

Why would you post something like that?

I've disagreed with Tex plenty in the past Goff v Wentz, Clowney v Bortles to name a couple. But I respect his opinions and he adds a lot to this MB.

I don't think any of us really knows what goes on inside O'Brien's dimpled brain (that little small thing in his skull behind his chin). So, just judging by his results, which is a horribly misbalanced team with an offense less exciting to watch than professional bowling, I'd say he sucks. Winning the division two out of three years says maybe I'm overly judgmental.

Which proves O'Brien sucks, because I'm never overly judgmental. :)

The coaching carousel is spinning up today, and there will be over six teams that have first pick of the coaching candidates before the Texans finish their first playoff game. This is not the best season for this team to go coach-shopping, but it may happen anyway.

Can we give them permission to talke to Bill O'Brien??
We can even throw in Osweiler (or Savage) to sweeten the pot

Lil Shanny will be HC somewhere before we are able to interview him. Denver, Jacksonville, and Rams are requesting interviews.

If there's any truth to the Jim Glazer reports then a lot of talking is already going on behind the scenes. Candidates know who will be looking, destinations know who will be available.

If Shanahan had any intention of coming to Houston he won't make a decision until we're officially in the race. if he goes to San Francisco or Denver I don't think Houston was ever a consideration.

If he goes to Buffalo or San Diego then the argument can be made.

Denver is a great team and I imagine it could be a dream job for lil Shanahan since his dad coached there for a long time. I doubt he would turn down that type of opportunity for a team that might or might not be available.

From the BOB news conference a few minutes ago:

Bill O'Brien was asked about the speculation of a potential parting of the ways: 'I don't think about that. I don't address those things.'

I'm thinking Bill thinks he's a success with the BS he's had to deal with . He's thinking of the destiny of the last coach and has his bags packed .

Does anyone remember play calling being this bad with Hoyer or Fitzpatrick?

Nope but both those guys were far better QB's. Osweiler has the turnover gene that has defined Fitzpatrick's career and combines it with the lack of poise against pressure that led to some spectacular Hoyer implosions.
