He'll never see that $7.1m - the Bills would cut him rather than pay it, and no other team would trade for him unless they had a new deal in place.
The Texans have agreed to pay Moulds $14 million over four years in a deal that includes a $5 million signing bonus.
$14mil - $5mil(bonus)= $9 million/4yrs= $2.25 million
For 2006, Moulds will recieve $2.25 million(salary)+ $5 million(bonus)= $7.25 million.
I understand that Buffalo had no intention of paying him. But the magic number for Moulds is, and it always has been the $7.1 million he was scheduled to make. With all these low ball deals rumored to be offered to him, I was just saying I don't understand why Moulds would take those deals, especially when he just entered the FA market. It didn't make since. If I were Him, I'd rather be cut, than sign with the worst team in the NFC East, and the worst team in the AFC South, if I wasn't going to get my money. Especially after seeing Glenn get $20million over 5 years, and Givens get $24mil over 4 years. Heck, even looking at those numbers, it's hard to believe we've got him for $14mil over 4 years.... that is dirt cheap considering he was only slightly less productive than Glenn, and more productive than Givens.
I understand Givens is younger, but that is a lot of jack.... And Terrell got $24 mil over 3 years, or something like that, and he is the same age as Moulds.
The only way I believe that these numbers are believable, is because they work out to $7 million for 2006. I understand the Texans likes the 4 years to spread it out, but if I was Moulds, I would have been pretty firm on 3 years........ that's probably all he's going to play, and it'll bring his base up to $3 million.... only another $0.75 mill for the Texans and their cap. the bonus hit would go from $1.25 million a year to $1.6million.... Maybe there are some incentives in their, that aren't showing up yet.
Either way, I think it's a good deal... great, almost. I don't feel so bad about losing Gaffney. & I'm glad we passed on Givens, even thought they are both younger.
