Manziel

You think he'll have the best 10 yard split?

Its quite possible at least among the QB's , some reports have him running a 4.45. If you are asking will he have the top 10 yard split of the entire combine , I'd have to answer no.

Will Nebraska's Taylor Martinez get an invite to the combine as a QB ?? He and Montana State's DeNarius McGhee are the only two QB's I think can challenge him for the top 40 by a QB - pending everyone is healthy.

I'll just say this - I've mentioned before that McNair is enamored with Manziel , its been ignored for the most part .... but hey , what do I know ?

Do you think Gil Brandt is putting JFF #1 in his mock because he has inside info on the Texans, or because he wants to be provocative and get lots of webhits?

Is that ESPN, a gut feeling, ya'll chatted on the links? Got a link for this enamoration? (new word :D)

McNair already has a boytoy... Keenum. Manziel's coming at the wrong time. Should have stayed another year.

I'm on record that I would LOVE for us to draft Manziel. However I believe it's more likely McNair is floating this out there because of the recent reports that Cleveland is infatuated with JM and they are sitting on two first round picks. Just as I predicted would happen awhile back. Like I said, the chess game has begun.

I would be surprised if every rumor of another high picking team falling in love with a player wasn't followed by a rumor that we were leaning that way ourselves.

Is there an actual link to this rumor? I feel out of the know, like I missed something.

This strategy doesn't sound conducive to wanting to trade the pick to me. I'm sure the Browns aren't sitting there hoping that we'll want their 2 number ones & then some.

If they need to trade with us, they should already know their other one is required. Them trying to pry away a player we love is going to cost more. If I were the Browns & I knew the Texans coveted the same player I do.... then I know I'll have to overpay... & I don't want to overpay.

Washington was able to trade with St.Louis, because they "knew" St.Louis did not want RG3, & Cleveland did. The only way Cleveland trades with us, is because they don't want that to happen again. They can't trade ahead of the #1 pick.

They have to believe St. Louis wants Manziel. Then the likely hood of a trade becomes more likely. "We" can't fall in love with any player, especially not the player our likely trade partner covets.

I think you are overthinking this a little.

Ding Ding Ding Ding!!! Teddy B. on the top of your mock draft is not sexy and worth the page click, so people do things to be different and get you interested. Maybe you will be so annoyed that you even sign up for an account and give the man a comment under the article. Either way he wins.

in the second round or later i'd be willing to take the risk. i wouldnt spend a first on manziel though. to me, he's vince young with an extra IQ point and fewer natural talents ... and similar maturity issues. he's super exciting and fun to watch, but what does he do that keenum doesnt/didnt? it's funny that so many highlights are when a pocket breaks down, because we know dang well that that's when it's over in the NFL. a pro quarterback has to make plays BEFORE the rush gets there to have success at this level. manning, brady, rodgers, brees ... these are the elites. what makes them the elites is the first 2.9 seconds. "making plays" isnt going to win a superbowl, ask michael vick. "MAKING THROWS" will win superbowls, ask joe flacco.

So would #4 and #26 be enough in the eyes of the JFF fans?

Even though I like all three QB's I guess you could call me a JFF fan. To answer your question, No! Not because we would be giving up on Johnny. Because I don't think that's fair value. It's going to cost a little more. Preferably a high pick next year.

He hasn't even done a mock yet. It doesn't come out till tomorrow. Manziel is his number one rated player.

So something more along the lines of the epic fleecing St Louis pulled (3 firsts and a second)?

And? I know his mock comes out tomorrow. Doesnt refute anything I said. And if JF is his #1 rated player, or even QB for that matter then I can only assume he is becoming senile in his old age.

I want 4 , 26 , 68 & next years #1 , or something similar.
That's less than the Skins gave to move up for RG3 , the difference being they gave up a 2nd instead of a 3rd (68).

Considering they only moved to #2 and this is the #1 giving the Browns their pick of the top signal callers rather than the leftovers .... and the fact that rookie salaries are now slotted instead of holy %$*# Batman ..... I think its worth at lest that.

I think I told you before, but there isn't a chance in hell that is happening. We need to stop using the RG3 trade as a baseline, Dan Snyder is the stupidest owner in all the NFL and that trade was an epic failure. Nobody is going to mortgage their future for a single player, not even Cleveland. Even with rookie wage scale much more manageable in the new CBA, giving up that many early picks over the next two seasons is a stupid move.

Yeah and that's the only similar example in the history of the NFL ..... :swatter:

If I don't get a package similar to that , I don't trade the pick. Its that simple.

All it takes is one owner or GM to fall head over heels for one of these top prospects and a deal like that can materialize.

Cleveland was also in the running with Washington for RGIII and missed out by because Washington's bid included a 2nd RD and Cleveland didn't.That being the case teams will take that into consideration when trying to trade up.

Has anyone brought up the Heisman curse yet?

I've mentioned some affection towards Manziel myself, but I do not want the Texans to draft him, because of that curse. He's going to make a fine player, he's going to have some success. But I think he'll be like Palmer, where we're always questioning if the rest of his team is good enough.

It is possible that I'm wrong & he's going to be a HOF, Super Bowl winning QB. & that is a dumb reason for not drafting a QB. But, that's my reason.

That curse only affects those that win the Heisman following those that win it after their senior season, not those that win it after their freshman season :kitten:

What all you guys seem to be missing is that Luck & RG3 were once every 5-8 year prospects...Those type of prospects tend to set the stage for the crazy trade up deals..There's not one of those at the top of the draft this year..Clowney would be if there weren't questions about his motivation.

Is that a fleecing or is that fair value?

That's the question I think a bunch of people are trying to get a handle on now that the NFL has the rookie wag cap.

I still think the Rams fleeced the Skins, now if Houston gets something similar maybe that will establish a new baseline.
