Vinatieri was placed on IR after declining career performances...........terrible this year. Mostly unknown, He tore his meniscus 3 years ago but he and the team have done everything to keep him playing (memories of Luck). Continued play led him to develop compensatory patellar tendonitis this season. He will now finally undergo Knee surgery............at least 2 years too late..............this delayed decision could very well have made the difference between just coming back and returning to a successful extra couple of years of kicking.

Here's hoping the best to one of the best.

CLARK [HIP]..........NEW............IN TC WITH THE SAINTS EARLIER THIS YEAR, HE SUSTAINED WHAT WAS REPORTED AS A "SERIOUS LOWER LEG INJURY"...........WATCHING THE PLAY, AND WITH HIM HAVING TO BE CARTED OFF THE FIELD WITH AN AIRCAST ON, IT APPEARS THAT HE SUFFERED A SEVERE HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN........AS IT IS EXPECTED THAT HE IS STILL SUFFERING EFFECTS OF HIS HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN (IN ADDITION TO HIS KNEE ISSUES WHICH DO NOT APPEAR ON THE INJURY REPORT BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN ONGOING FOR A LONG TIME, BUT AS EASILY HAS BEEN SEEN, HAVE AFFECTED HIS MOBILITY), A HIP INJURY IS NOT AN UNCOMMON COMPENSATORY INJURY TO SEE ............THE END OF 2017, HE SUFFERED A SIMILAR INJURY ALONG WITH A BONE BRUISE............EXPECT TO SEE HIM QUESTIONABLE FOR SUNDAY

CONLEY [HIP].........HIS HIP POINTER SHOULD NOT KEEP HIM OUT SUNDAY

FULLER [HAMSTRING]...........FULLER WILL BE A RISK FOR RE-INJURY WHENEVER HE COMES BACK..........NOT BEING A FULL PARTICIPANT TENDS TO MAKE ME BELIEVE THAT HIS LAST HAMSTRING RE-INJURY IS NOT JUST GETTING A REST, BUT STILL AN ISSUE..............HE WILL LIKELY BE QUESTIONABLE FOR SUNDAY, BUT BECAUSE OF THE IMPORTANCE OF THE GAME, MAY BE COAXED BACK INTO THE LINEUP

NEITHER JONES OR WATKINS [HAMSTRINGS] SHOULD BE TAKING THE FIELD WITHOUT FULL PRACTICES THROUGHOUT THE WEEK

SCARLETT [ACHILLES/SHOULDER].............THE ACHILLES IS NEW..............WHAT BOTHERS ME IS THAT LAST DECEMBER, HE WAS PLACED ON IR WITH CONFLICTING REPORTS OF A FOOT INJURY VS AN ANKLE INJURY..........WHAT'S BETWEEN THE FOOT AND THE ANKLE?

ALL INDICATIONS ARE THAT THIS IS ANOTHER WALK-THROUGH WEEK

TITANS WEDNESDAY INJURY REPORT

LB DAREN BATES [SHOULDER].............SUSTAINED A DISLOCATED LEFT SHOULDER WEEK 13............HAS NOT PRACTICED OR PLAYED SINCE.............WILL NOT PLAY SUNDAY

RB DERRICK HENRY [HAMSTRING]...........SUSTAINED A GRADE I TEAR WEEK 12...........HAS BEEN PRACTICING OFF AND ON SINCE.........HAS NOT MISSED A GAME THROUGH THIS PERIOD AND HAS HAD 4 STRAIGHT 100+ YD GAMES.........HIS PATTERN HAS BEEN TO NOT PRACTICE ON WEDNESDAYS ONLY.............UNLES HE DOES NOT PARTICIPATE BEYOND TO DAY, EXPECT HIM TO BE A DEFINITE THREAT ON THE FIELD SUNDAY

WR ADAM HUMPHRIES [ANKLE]..........SUFFERED HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN WEEK 13 AND HAS NOT PRACTICED SINCE

CB ADOREE JACKSON [FOOT]............SUSTAINED WEEK 13 (IN ADDITION, HE SUSTAINED A KNEE INJURY FOR WHICH HE HAS NOT BEEN LISTED)............HAS NOT PRACTICED OR PLAYED SINCE.............HE SUFFERED A CALF INJURY WEEK 12..............WEEK 7, HE SUSTAINED A FOOT INJURY AND COULD NOT PLAY WEEK 8...............INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT HE WAS REPORTED TO HAVE ANKLE SURGERY THIS PAST OFFSEASON WHICH I CONFIRMED WAS ACTUALLY A FOOT SURGERY THAT KNOCKED HIM OUT OF OTAS.............THE TITANS HAVE BEEN MUM ON THE NATURE OF THE FOOT PROBLEMS/SURGERY, BUT FROM THE RECOVER AND SUBSEQUENT PATTERN OF FOOT PROBLEMS, I STRONGLY SUSPECT THAT THIS CHAIN OF EVENTS HAVE BEEN A RESULT OF A JONES (5TH METATARSAL) FRACTURE............HE WON'T BE OUT THERE SUNDAY

DT JURRELL CASEY [KNEE]...........NEW (LIKELY MCL)............HE WAS LIMITED TODAY ALTHOUGH NOT LISTED ABOVE AS SUCH.............LAST YEAR WAS PLACED ON IR SUPPOSEDLY FOR A GRADE II MCL KNEE INJURY AND REHABBED THROUGH THE BEGINNING OF TC (BECAUSE OF THE LENGTH OF RECOVERY, I HAVE SERIOUS DOUBTS THAT HE WAS ONLY DEALING WITH ONLY AN MCL)............MISSED WEEK 9 AND 10 FOR SHOULDER DISLOCATION ( WOULD HAVE MISSED WEEK 10 EXCEPT THAT WAS THE BYE WEEK).............WILL LIKELY BE QUESTIONABLE SUNDAY

C BEN JONES [THUMB]..........NEW...........WORD IS HE PUT IN HIS THUMB, AND PULLED OUT A PLUM, AND SAID WHAT A GOOD BOY AM I!............IF HE DOESN'T EXPERIENCE A SEVERE GI PROBLEM, HE WILL BE OUT THERE SUNDAY WITH A TRAUMATIZE PURPLE-COLORED THUMB

CB LESHAUN SIMS [ANKLE]...........SUSTAINED A HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN WEEK 12.............HAS NOT PRACTICED OR PLAY WEEK 13 AND 14............I DON'T SEE HIM PLAYING SUNDAY

S KENNY VACCARO [CONCUSSION].............NEW..............WILL BE QUESTIONABLE FOR SUNDAY

*THERE IS GOOD REASON TO BELIEVE TODAY WAS A NON PADDED PRACTICE

WATKINS HAD A FULL PRACTICE FOR A WALK-THROUGH AND IS NOT QUESTIONABLE..........DO NOT FEEL HE HE SHOULD PLAY SUNDAY

SCARLETT IS QUESTIONABLE............IF HE PLAYS, HIS PLAY WILL BE AFFECTED PROBABLY MORE BY HIS ACHILLES THAN HIS SHOULDER

BATES, HUMPHRIES AND JACKSON HAVE ALL BEEN RULED OUT AS THEY SHOULD HAVE FOR SUNDAY

HENRY HAS NOT PRACTICED ALL WEEK AND IS QUESTIONABLE...........IN THE PAST, HE MAY HAVE MISSED WEDNESDAY PRACTICE, BUT PRACTICED TO SOME EXTENT THE REST OF THE WEEK, AND NEVER MISSED A GAME.............IN LAST WEEK'S GAME, HE LOOKED TO WEAR DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY AS THE GAME WENT ON...........CONSISTENT WITH MY WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY "UNLESS HE DOES NOT PARTICIPATE BEYOND TODAY, EXPECT HIM TO BE A DEFINITE THREAT ON THE FIELD SUNDAY"........... AS HE DID NOT, IT WOULD SURPRISE ME IF HE DOES SEE THE FIELD SUNDAY...............AND IF HE DOES, IT WILL LIKELY SHOW THAT HE SHOULD NOT HAVE

VACCARO HAS BEEN RULED QUESTIONABLE............THIS ALONG FULL PRACTICES IN WALK-THROUGHS, TELLS ME THAT HE HAS BEEN CLEARED TO PRACTICE, BUT NOT YET CLEARED THE PROTOCOL TO PLAY IN A GAME.............I SEE HIM MORE LIKELY TO HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NEXT GAME TO RETURN SAFELY

SIMS AND CASEY MAY NOT HAVE BEEN GIVEN A CAUTIONARY STATUS, BUT I WOULD EXPECTED THEM TO BE OF LIMITED EFFECTIVENESS IF THEY PLAY

As I watched the Titans game with a neighbor in real time, the only explanation I had for him for McKinney going down for so long and not returning.........and not having anyone check his arms, chest or legs for injury............was either the wind was knock out of him..........or a concussion............when he did return, I eliminated one choice.

Doc I remember the play but did not focus on it. Is it possible it was one of those player down to give time for his team to make adjustments or get a quick breather?

When i hear "pec tear" and him needing surgery, i think of this or this
View attachment 5121 View attachment 5122

He's already been out long enough to have healed from the surgery...but if his tear was anywhere close to the level of these, It would be complete foolishness to entertain him coming back before next season......but I don't think he or the Texans FO would be leaving the door open like they have if it wasn't a possibility But they are, so to me, his injury must've not been as severe as the pics. CnD..educate me please as i'm floundering here. Are there gradients to these tears & could he realistically come back to play after a severe tear like the above illustrations?
At 3 months, Watt's pec would not be functionally "healed"............saying that it is would be like saying if you used wood glue to glue 2 pieces of wood together, it would be functionally good to go to resist being separated after 5 minutes.......................it would appear to be repaired, but if you dropped the glued pieces then from 10 feet, it would undoubted break apart..............that would be the case until the glue's bond is completely "cured." So is the case with surgical repair.

The case that is depicted in the pic on the left is a very rare form of pec tear............where the muscle (there is no tendon on that side of the pec muscle) is torn from the breast bone (sternum). Trying to sew muscle to anything is like trying to sew wet toilet paper..........it will not have the strength of repair that sewing/reattaching the tough fibrous tissue end of the pec tendon to bone as in the case in the pic on the right. Therefore, functional healing in the case of the pec muscle tear will require more time in general to gain functional strength...................6 months or more, compared to the 4-6 months normally required for the tendon repair.

Finally, repair of partial tears of the muscle or the tendon will still require the same functional healing time required by complete ruptures.

The upgrade to Addae is not significant.........still expect him to be very doubtful to play Saturday

Hyde downgraded to not participating is likely resting his ankle.............still likely to try to play through it Saturday

From what I am hearing, Hopkins has come down with the flu............not a great sign for playing or play like Hopkins within 48-72 hours of the beginning of symptoms.........fever and symptoms maximize by the first 3-4 days, and feelings of being drained and tired for up to 3 weeks........you now also have to worry about the rest of the locker room's exposure

The remainder of the players, have no change to my impressions of Wednesday.

J MARTIN AND MCKINNEY ARE OUT AS EXPECTED

ADDAE IS UNLIKELY TO PLAY

FULLER BECAUSE OF THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS GAME TO CLOSE OUT A PLAYOFF SPOT......AND WITH THE WEAK BUCS SECONDARY, IS LIKELY TO PLAY

HYDE WILL PLAY UNLESS HE HAS SIGNIFICANTLY AGGRAVATED HIS ANKLE...........WITH TAIWAN JONES BEING THE ONLY REAL RB BESIDES JOHNSON, AND JONES IS ALSO UNLIKELY TO BE ABLE TO PLAY STS LET ALONE RB WITH HIS RELATIVELY RECENT HAMSTRING

SCARLET BEING QUESTIONABLE WILL PROBABLY BE ACTIVE.......HIS EFFECTIVENESS WILL BE IN QUESTION AS HE REAGGRAVATED HIS ACHILLES LAST GAME

HOPKINS HAS SUPPOSEDLY "RECOVERED" FROM HIS FLU..........I SUSPECT, WE WILL STILL SEE SOME ILL EFFECTS IN THE FORM OF FATIGUE AND SLOWER MOVES...........WE'LL SEE

WINSTON IS QUESTIONABLE, BUT WILL STILL PLAY SATURDAY

CB CORBEN DAVIS [ANKLE].........NEW LOW ANKLE.........SUSTAINED IN YESTERDAY'S PRACTICE............QUESTIONABLE............IF PLAYS, EVEN A FRESH LOW ANKLE SPRAIN WILL TAKE A CB DOWN AT LEAST ONE NOTCH

Posted this morning on the wrong injury thread:

As I posted before, groin, calf and hamstrings share very similar properties...............they all require significant rest/rehab, they frequently re-injure (moreso in the same season) and they all increase the risk for compensatory injuries when not fully rehabbed. Fuller is a perfect example............and now he has 2 very worrisome soft tissue injuries to account for in his quest to return for the playoffs. Fuller's groin tear is a grade II and itself should be give at least a month of rest/rehab.........not very promising for getting to the playoffs.........and staying in the playoffs.

FULLER [GROIN].........NEW...........A COMPENSATORY INJURY TO HIS HAMSTRING

WATSON [BACK]...........NEW............ALTHOUGH NOT LISTED ON THE REPORT FOR AN ANKLE, HE SUFFERED AN AGGRAVATION OF HIS HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN...........BECAUSE OF THIS HIS CORE BECAME UNBALANCED AND HE SUFFERED A BACK INJURY

STILLS [KNEE]...........NEW...........STILLS EXPERIENCED LEG CRAMPS DURING THE LAST GAME THEN SUBSEQUENTLY SUFFERED A GRADE I MCL

HOPKINS [ILLNESS]..........NEW........GUESS WHO HAS AN AGGRAVATION OF THE FLU?

TUNSIL [ANKLE]...........NEW...........LOW ANKLE SPRAIN

ADDAE [ACHILLES]...........STILL DEALING WITH ACHILLES TENDONITIS

SCARLETT [ACHILLES]...........STILL DEALING WITH ACHILLES TENDONITIS

MCKINNEY [CONCUSSION]..............WILL BE OUT OF THE PROTOCOL BY SUNDAY

JACOB MARTIN [KNEE]............TOO SOON AFTER MCL TO SAFELY PLAY

*YOU WILL NOTE THAT I DID NOT REALLY COMMENT ON THE PLAYER BEING AVAILABLE TO PLAY SUNDAY OR NOT.............THIS IS BECAUSE: 1) TODAY, THERE WAS NO PRACTICE.......THE INJURY REPORT WAS AN "ESTIMATE" OF LEVEL OF PRACTICE 2) THIS WEEK'S REMAINING PRACTICES WILL BE WALK-THROUGHS 3) NO FINAL DECISIONS HAVE BEEN REPORTED AS TO HOW MANY AND WHICH PLAYERS MAY BE RESTED..............FOR PURPOSE OF POTENTIALLY "BORDERLINE" PLAY-THROUGH INJURIES............OR SIMPLY FOR REST PRIOR TO THE PLAYOFFS

*THIS IS A NON CONTACT PRACTICE WEEK FOR THE TITANS

LB DAREN BATES [SHOULDER].............SUSTAINED A DISLOCATED LEFT SHOULDER WEEK 13............HAS NOT PRACTICED OR PLAYED SINCE.............DON'T KNOW WHY HE HAS NOT CHOSEN TO REPAIR HIS LABRUM...........WILL NOT PLAY SUNDAY

RB DERRICK HENRY [HAMSTRING]...........SUSTAINED A GRADE I TEAR WEEK 12...........HAS BEEN PRACTICING OFF AND ON SINCE.........HAD NOT MISSED A GAME THROUGH THIS PERIOD AND HAS HAD 4 STRAIGHT 100+ YD GAMES PRIOR TO COMING INTO THE LAST GAME AGAINST THE TEXANS, A GAME THAT HE MANAGED ONLY 86 YDS.........FOLLOWING THAT GAME, WITH LITTLE TOO PLAY FOR IN LAST WEEK'S GAME, THE TEAM DECIDED TO REST HIM IN ANTICIPATION OF THE 2ND TEXANS MEETING WHERE IF THEY WIN COULD STILL GET THEM INTO THE PLAYOFFS............ HIS PATTERN HAS BEEN TO NOT PRACTICE ON WEDNESDAYS ONLY.............I EXPECT HIM TO BE ON THE FIELD SUNDAY

WR ADAM HUMPHRIES [ANKLE]..........SUFFERED HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN WEEK 13 AND HAS NOT PRACTICED SINCE.............HE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE FIELD WITH HIS CANE SUNDAY

*ALL IMPRESSIONS OF WHO MIGHT PLAY OR NOT A HAVE BEEN BASED ON IF THEY WOULD NORMALLY BE ALLOWED TO PLAY SUNDAY. AGAIN, FOR THOSE THAT MISSED MY EDIT FROM LAST NIGHT, THE TEXANS DID NOT HAVE A PRACTICE ON CHRISTMAS (THE REPORT WAS ALL "ESTIMATES" OF IF THE PLAYERS PLAYED.

HOPKINS, DESPITE BEING DOWNGRADED TO LIMITED, WILL PLAY SUNDAY

MCKINNEY HAS PASSED THE PROTOCOL AND HAS BEEN CLEARED TO PLAY SUNDAY

ROBY HAS A "NEW" INJURY............HE RE-INJURED HIS HAMSTRING IN PRACTICE...........HE HAS ALREADY MISSED 5 GAMES FOR THE HAMSTRING AFTER HE WAS INJURED IN WEEK 6............WILL BE QUESTIONABLE FOR SUNDAY...........IT HAS BEEN SPECULATED THAT THIS IS A "REST" DAY FOR HIM, BUT IF THAT WERE THE CASE, IT WOULD/SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLASSIFIED DIFFERENTLY.............WE'LL KNOW MORE TOMORROW

I FEEL STRONGLY THAT THIS INJURY STATUS REPORT IS A JOKE, AND THE TEAM IS PLAYING GAMES WITH THE STATUSES..............IF THIS WERE AN IMPORTANT GAME, MOST OF THESE PLAYERS COULD BE GET A DEFINITE "OUT" OR DEFINITE IN............AS IT TURNS OUT, BEING QUESTIONABLE CAN SET THOSE PLAYERS UP FOR RESTING THEM FOR THE GAME WITHOUT FEAR THAT THE LEAGUE WOULD HAVE ANY COMPLAINTS WITH THE INJURY REPORT

NO WAY TO KNOW WHO THE TEAM HAS STRICKLY CHOSEN TO REST.

ADDAE CONTINUES TO DEAL WITH ACHILLES TENDINITIS.........WILL PLAY SATURDAY IF NO SETBACK

FULLER...........IF TRIES TO RETURN THIS WEEK, STILL TOO SOON FOR A GROIN TEAR, WILL BE HIGH RISK FOR GROIN AND HAMSTRING RE-INJURY

JJO..........THE TEXANS ARE DOWNPLAYING HIS HAMSTRING............HE SUSTAINED A HAMSTRING TEAR IN WEEK 5 AND MISSED THE SUBSEQUENT 3 GAMES.........AFTER THIS LAST HAMSTRING, EVEN WITH THIS RECENT GRADE I HAMSTRING, BECOMES A VERY HIGH RISK TO AGAIN RE-INJURE IF HE PLAYS SATURDAY

MARTIN WILL BE 3 WEEKS POST GRADE I MCL..............MAY BE QUESTIONABLE THURSDAY, BUT WILL PROBABLY PLAY SATURDAY

ROBY WILL BE 2 WEEKS POST RE-INJURY OF HIS HAMSTRING..............HIS ORIGINAL HAMSTRING OCCURRED WEEK 6, FOR WHICH HE MISSED 5 GAMES (WOULD HAVE BEEN 6 IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE BYE)...........AWFULLY SOON TO COME BACK FROM A RE-INJURY OF THE HAMSTRING

STILLS HAD CRAMPING BEFORE SUFFERING THE GAME HE SUFFERED THE MCL..........THE CRAMPING WAS FROM THE HAMSTRING, THE SAME HAMSTRING (AND AN ANKLE SPRAIN) HE DEALT WITH SINCE THE BEGINNING OF OCTOBER.........WITH ALL OF THIS, HE WILL PROBABLY QUESTIONABLE, BEING BORDERLINE FOR TIME TO RETURN

TUNSIL WITH HIS LOW ANKLE SPRAIN SHOULD BE ABLE TO RETURN WITH AN ANKLE BRACE THIS SATURDAY

TBH, By 8+ weeks, Gipson's wrist fracture and transverse process back fracture should have structurally healed. As far as the transverse process fracture, many players can play through it after a week or two, as return from it is a pain factor with little risk of extending the fracture problem (ex. such as Romo and Derek Carr playing football and Cam Newton in an auto accident)..........the only real risk of playing with the pain of the transverse process fracture would theoretically that it could mess with core mechanics which could then in turn be the cause of a compensatory injury.

By 7 weeks post return from his 1st hamstring injury, a re-injury was not that high of a risk................but it proves the point that I've made repeatedly............soft tissue tears of the hamstrings, quads, calves and groins continue to be an increased risk, especially within the same season.

That being said, if so many vets/starters were being rested, why not Gipson our best secondary player and Joseph our oldest secondary player?

It will be 3 weeks by next game which will be borderline for return to play............again, if he does not have Full practices throughout the week, he should not play. But if he does play, he will be significant risk for not only a groin re-injury, but also a hamstring re-injury due to residual disruption of mechanics. I have not ruled out the possibility that the "groin" injury does not involve the adductor muscle/tendon, but possibly may refer to a "sport hernia." If the latter is indeed the case, we will hear of a surgery in the offseason.
