INFO on college 2018 football

Ok, I got my WR target for the draft. Iowa State, Hakeem Butler, 6-6 @ 225 lbs. It appears Hakeem can ball in football like the Rockets Hakeem could ball on the hardwood. He's an achievable target based on the teams picks.

This would give Watson another very nice RZ target to go along with Thomas....but this guy could be a legit threat anywhere on the field.

Per Wescott Eberts Executive Editor SBNation: U of Tx corner Kris Boyd very PO'd at Emmanuel Acho of ESPN and former Longhorn LB. Boyd who had been suspended for 1st Q versus OK St for arriving late at team function & played like poo poo during game when he got on field was criticized by Acho. The ESPN mouthpiece also criticized head coach Tom Herman for suspending Boyd and corner Davante Davis. FYI OK ST scored 17 in first Q. One of the tweets of Acho "'I cannot watched this dude play defense..it's actually trash. If you know. You know." In another tweet in response to one from someone telling Acho to let up, Acho denied he was talking about "Kris --but anyone feels it applies to them should probably step up."

oh look at this highlight tape, that's definitely a good way to scout a player, looking at a cut up of all their good plays.

I only gave the link so anyone who hasn't heard of him could get a quick look-see, then do their own research. What stands out to me, his physicality after the catch. Dude keeps his legs moving like a RB. This is a guy that could be worked with for certain.

Is there something you didn't like about him?

Talking about high school players heading to college.

Last Friday I attended the North Shore - West Brook game. (My daughter dances for the West Brook drill team.) North Shore's roster is loaded. I have never been more impressed with a high school team. They will have plenty of players playing major D1 College Ball.

Their starting left tackle is 6'-6" 300 lbs. He looked like an NFL player on the field. The QB is smart and is making plays that high school players don't make.

I'm convinced that North Shore team could beat a few FCS college teams.

They supposedly have the best RB since Adrian Peterson.

I went to HS a few exits down (Furr HS) but had many friends who went to North Shore not to mention I had a couple of girlfriends from that school. Me and a few buddies liked driving over and hanging out along the parking area behind the athletic fields on Saturday's and polish our cars so we could talk with the girls cruising by. North Shore football was good then but nothing compared to what they have evolved in to.

David Aymond set up a program that would last for the ages. John Kay has only expanded upon it. Kinda like Johnston/Joseph at Katy.

They are the 2 local powerhouses every yr. Occasionally you will have a team like Atascosita crash their party. I like the fact that Northshore/Katy play each other early in the regular season each yr. They know odds are they will meet somewhere in the playoffs later on in the season and can see how their teams have progressed.

I cant wait to see Cajuste/Omenihu square off Saturday. I'm going to be in Denver so can somebody give me a recap on how Cajuste looks in case I get busy and miss part of the game?

week 9 mock: Despite my disagreements with my buddy SteelTexan I think Davenport remains a LT starter for 2019. He is undergoing normal growing pains & has played against good competition as he did versus Denver. I think LG will be Rankins or Mancz and have Martin penciled in at center but he needs to step up. Fortunately I can see Fulton moving to center if Martin doesn't. Lamm continues 2019 at RT but I draft his replacement.

1.26 RB Damien Harris Alabama 5'11" 215 senior is rapidly climbing charts as he is a very good receiver as well as a runner. Even better despite his three seasons of great play he's not considered the only option in the Red Tide's arsenal. He has only 87 attempts for 525 but should go nuts against Citadel if Saban decides to let him play much. 6.25 per run and 10.38 receiving.

2.50 CB Byron Murphy Washington RS Soph 5'11" 2017 180 played only first three games and last three due to foot injury but had 16 tackles, 3 for loss, 1 sack, 7 passes broken up, 1 forced fumble and 3 INTs
2018: 9 games 47 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 INT, 1 FF, 12 passes broken up.

2.58 WR Lil'Jordan Humphries U. TX. Junior 6'3 225 this one surprises even me but since I started watching him he just gets better with Hopkin's type hands. He reminds me of Larry Fitzgerald and will be a great pick even if some will think he is a reach at this point of schedule. 9 games 55/788 @ 14.33 with 5 TDs. As is Harris above Jordan is part of a mix at his position or his stats would be nuts! I do think Texans keep Thomas but with Fuller's injuries and Coutee's I take the plunge.

3.90 OT Max Scharping Northern Illinois 6'6" 320 senior moved from RT in 2017 to start LT since. I have him competing for RT 2019. Wing span 80 inches

4 traded for D. Thomas

5.162 CB Clifton Duck Appalachian State 5'10" 175 but solid built who tackles well. Tremendous ball skills and great instincts. Kid is going to fool a lot of people in NFL. This junior has great stats every season and has nothing left to prove so I have him coming out of school.

6. OLB Maxx Crosby Jr. Easter Michigan 6'5" 247 from Colleyville TX 2017: 57 tackles, 1 fumble return for TD, 16.5 for loss, 11 sacks + 11 QB hurries.
2018 9 games : 49 tackles 14.5 for loss, 6.5 sacks, 3 passes broken up 4 QB hurries and 4 forced fumbles.

7. OLB Jaylon Ferguson Louisiana Tech

With 3 picks in the first 2 rounds, any draft that doesn't include at least one tackle by then has missed - and missed badly IMO. Having 'good enough' at the position isn't a success, the LT is supposed to be the anchor of the offensive line and the whole world changes when you have strong talent on both ends. I know you're pretty high on our current potential, but in no world is any of the group going to be a top end player - 'can do the job' is their ceiling.

Good enough is exactly what created this shitehole of a dilemma on the OL for 15+ years.

I assume you mean 5 years? And yes, good enough is 5 years of dropping talent in order to keep signing 6th man free agents and almost starters and failing to get our early draft picks coached up (or worse moving them around because you're too inept and inexperienced to recognize talent and traits).

I'll stick with 15+ years b/c there was a blip of respectability buried in there.

Oh, apologies. And ... dude, no. In 2008 we were DB, Pitts, Myers, Brisiel, Winston. Each on their worst day better than what we have on their best. Injuries and rebuilding an entire 53 kept us from maintaining the unit, but we kept strength along the line. Around 2010 we were building a reputation as the top offensive line in football. We sent 3 to the ProBowl in 2012, which didn't include Ben Jones, Derek Newton or Brandon Brooks. Not a blip. Hell our worst starter was Derek Newton (the only one O'Brien kept), and we used to be annoyed at the likes of guys like Ryan Harris on the squad - and now people are trying to justify those journeymen as reasons to be hopeful. NO.

You stated one bang-up year and two build-up seasons out of 15+ years. Newton sucked so bad I referenced him as being the turnstile operator. The team got nothing out of Brooks and he instead flourished with the Eagles.

The OL is a priority this season and Gaine must finally (not his fault, but his problem) prioritize this hole.

No, I pointed out that by 2008 we were solid, sadly without future Hall of Famer Charles Spencer. And even in down years after that we were solid. Slaton went 1,000yds and probably would've had a few more if not for neck injury. We had TWO 1,000 rushers in a season. Ron Dayne even averaged over 4ypc. Newton was crap and the weakest link for years, but he would be the best player on the line today (thank's O'Brien, again). We had a line.

While I agree with you it was time to clean out Gibbs guys.

1. They were old and past their prime.

2. BOB didn't want to run a straight up ZBS. People around here love them some ZBS.

Wait, what? Someone must've taken over Steel's account. Kinda hypocritical to spend years giving credit to Gibbs for players he never saw as the reason we had a good line ... but now, time to move on ... from players he never coached.

1. Doesn't mean they weren't good.
1a. Were better than their replacements.
1b. Should have been kept until replaced, not dropped and hoping to find someone new after the fact.

2. The closest thing we've had to successful runs lately are Mancz leading at right guard and the few times that we've collapsed backside zone (works every time). Doing what works is contrary to our 'scheme', and teaching is non-existent.

Myers retired and Smith was cut and not picked up by anybody. Newton was avg and usually below avg. So it was time to move on.

Now if you want to say Ricky and BOB weren't on the same page with what they wanted in an ol then we can agree. They have different backgrounds and this was never going to work.

The only mistake with your post was using Newton's incorrect last name...in the future, Derek Turnstile will suffice.

I'm watching Cajuste/Greir/Sills

I really like them all. If I was looking for a QB Greir/Herbert are going to be guys that go high. Denver should do what they can to get one of these guys. Colorado QB Montez also is a good prospect.

Cajuste is really good in pass pro and just very solid all around guy. Great feet (Basketball player) takes good angles and has a mean streak in the run game. Doubtful he makes it to 20.

Michigan State is beating themselves against Ohio State. Alabama versus Miss State next up on CBS.

edit: I want to see Lil Jordan against Texas Tech at 6:30.

Not only was the Thurs night Seattle vs Green Bay a very poorly game by both teams (watched only to root against Seagulls for our second second) the SMU vs Memphis game is even worst; glad neither are 'my' team. I am interested in long time favorite CB Jordan Wyatt who finally is getting some national recognition and safety Mikial Onu.

Wyatt 6'0 195 SMU Sr 2016 (to show consistency) 50 Ts solo 39, 4 forced fumble, 3 TFL, 7 PBU, 4 INT-2TDs
2017: 49Ts/40 3FF 1 sack 4.5 TFL 8 passes broken up 4 INTs -2 TDs
2018 : 9 games 16 tackles/13, 1TFL, 4 PBU and 1 INT *in December 2017 he had surgery for ACL and torn labrum he played with in 2017. This INT went for a 36 yard TD.

Onu 5'11" 205 SMU Jr 2017 105 tackles/ 80 solo 1 FF 7 passes broken up 2 INTs
2018 9 games 45 tackles 33 solo 1 QB hurry 3 PBUs 1 INT

Finally got report Wyatt not playing due to undisclosed injury his last game. He was reported to have been limping but no further info I can find so far.

Despite score and OT win by #10 Ohio St vs unranked Maryland when the latter unsuccessfully tried 2 point conversion it was not a good game. I liked play of three defensive guys I've followed for Texans in CB Julie Love Notre Dame, CB Rodarius "Lee Lee" Williams Ok State and DE/DT Zach Allen Boston College. All had good days and could be available for Houston. If Williams comes out as a RS Soph I would not select him until second round. He is smaller and not as fast as brother Greedy Williams LSU who is expected to be high first rounder.

It was interesting watching OK State playing #9 West Virginia. Duke may give Clemson trouble starting in few minutes and I want to focus on LT Hyatt despite some dropping his ranking. He is a possibility for Houston as he blocked well for you know who. #15 U TX plays at 7 pm vs #16 Iowa State but only on the Longhorn Network. sigh.

edit: end of first quarter and Duke 6-0 over Clemson.

After watching the West Va and Wash St. games, if the Texans could somehow come out of the draft with Cajuste and Dillard I would be a very happy man.

Is anyone watching linebackers? Is there someone that we may be able to grab in the second or possibly trade up for (without burning our other 2nd)?

Lots of OLBs and DEs that could convert and this is leading me to thinking we should tag and trade Clowney. I want Boston College's Zach Allen who is a JJ Watt type and plays all along line. He is 6'5" 285 and very quick/fast. After 11 games: 56 tackles 14.5 for loss despite teams focusing on stopping. 6.5 sacks 11 qb hurries 1 FF 2 punt/kicks blocked 7 PBUs and 1 INT. 2017 even better. Of course have has moved up ranks and I now have him probably top 20 pick in 2019. I have to have a first round for Clowney and am renewing my research from couple weeks ago as to whom might have offer we want. IMO others are there but talent/risk change greatly.

ILB I'm looking at Sutton Smith but he will prob move beyond where I want to select him. He is a six foot DE terror who is extremely strong but to short for OLB imo.

Arkansas RS Frosh Jordan Curtis injured Sunday night leaving practice at football complex per Otis Kirk of Pig Trai Nation. Curtis was struck by a car and transported to hospital where he was treated and released. He is red shirting this season and was a run back and cornerback in high school.

I love the idea of tagging Clowney and then trading him. I can think of a couple teams with the capital to do it. I think we’d at least get a 1st.

first I like Clowney and a trade would be for team benefit not anything personal with me. If he remains a Texan either with tag(s) or signing contract I am not opposed to that at least as of now. I understand it is early in his career but I'm very impressed with Ejiofor in his limited snaps. My understanding of his medical recovery from labrum surgery in February 2018 needs an avg 8.5 months per CloaknnnDagger's notes in injury thread. His hammy continues but by 2019 he should be ready to go. At 6'3" 275 with arms 34 7/8 " he has great size. I start him and draft a guy like Jaylon Ferguson Louisiana Tech. He is ranked on some sites as a late second early third round. Compensation for Clowney is cloudy at this point but if he gets a third consecutive pro bowl offer a first should be bottom line offer.

I think Green Bay could be a player but I think they offer up a RD2 pick....maybe we could squeeze them for a 2020 Conditional Pick as well. If they're game for a RD1,I'd be all over this option.

If Gaine trades Clowney for anything less than a 1st and a 3rd he should be fired.

and I'm talking a first thats early in the first round like top 10-12 pick, not a first rounder in the 20s

I like your optimism but regardless of how Clowney has played his health will be a strong point into negotiations. I vote remain strong as we can just keep him if we don't get what we want. i am working on scenarios to trade Clowney but due to content and hopeful response and discussion will began an separate thread from this one.
