Hurricane Ike

Well, we just lost power for a minute, so that's the queue for me to get the computers offline. DirecTV is having no issues so far, and while the wind has picked up, and I hear faint rumblings of thunder, no rain so far. I'm in Katy, basically at Fry Rd. and Kingsland.

Good luck everyone, and stay safe.

we will start losing our power one by one now....left to our flashlights and books.

Anyone in Sugar Land/Stafford? I'm still waiting for the "fun" to start.

I'm just off Westheimer about a mile west of the Sam Houston Tollway. Just walked around my apartment complex. No rain yet, the wind is picking up a bit. It's sunset and you can see the clouds moving pretty fast. I've noticed a few apartments where folks must have left town and forgot to clear off their patio. Man, are they gonna get a nasty suprise when they get back. that stuff is gonna fly through their glass patio doors and their apartment will be a frigging mess.

I've got my air conditioning turned WAY down and it's starting to get pretty cold in here now. That's in case I lose electricity, I'd like it to be cool for at least a bit longer. Don't really think this will do anything except run up my electric bill though.

Folks, I'm going to be off for awhile and since I don't believe I've put in my two cents of good luck, good luck.

You guys be careful and don't take any unnecessary risks. My thoughts are with all my Texans brothers/sisters and their families tonight. If any of you happen to be on around midnight I'll see ya then. Later on. :texflag:

Well, CH 13 just interviewed us at the bar (West Alabama Ice House) but didn't see us on TV.

We did take a group picture in the middle of the street.

Still waiting.

Ike is late (well, predicted pre-Ike rainfall), hope that doesn't mean he grows stronger.

Yep, right widya on that one! Truly sickening.
Some people shouldn't be allowed to own pets.

I'm more worried about my cats than myself. People who can't realistically fend for themselves in situations like this (no transportation, no money to get themselves out) shouldn't own pets.

Good luck everyone. I just had a quick power outage and am going to shut down the computer to make sure it doesn't get surged. Take care!

Where I go my animals go, or I stay put!! One reason I am hunkering down in dear old Pasadena. My four legged babies are family. I could NEVER leave them! That above pic of the dogs made me cry. I hope someone took them to a shelter. Maybe whoever took the pic.

Tomball area - no rain, wind starting to pickup. Gusts to maybe 20 Mph. In my area, if history holds true, after the first three rain drops I will be without power. So, here is hoping the rains hold off until it cools down pretty well otherwise it will be a hot sweaty night and not in a fun kind of way.

Gusting down my street in Spring 30+ MPH....eerily beautiful sunset a few minutes ago.

Getting ready to shut the desktops down....given that our power fails when the wind comes up 1/2 the time anyway; this will probably be it for awhile.

Everybody hunker down and take care!

I was forced to leave my dogs at home. My stepdad's a cop so he has to work through the storm and my mother's the activities coordinator at an assisted living home. My mom wouldn't let me stay home alone with my puppies, and because I'm a minor I'm forced to do what she says. So I'm staying with my grandma. I couldn't bring my puppies here because my grandma hates dogs in the house (she has hardwoods and she doesn't like dogs who shed). I left them in my house, sadly. I have yet to stop thinking about them. I left them plenty of water and gave them each a beef rib to keep them busy. I also left the radio on so they could hear a voice and not go nuts at the silence. I feel awful. :/

posts are starting to slow down, so I assume many are without power or internet now.

25 years ago I rode out Alisha alone in the trailer home of my Aunt. Very similar to that night now.

Take care everyone...see you Monday evening...God willing.

Still have it all here in Pasasdena. TV flickers occassionally, but, nothing down just yet. No rain either. I'm a little surprised, but, not complaining. It will come soon enough.

Don't mean to trivialise the freaky situation you all are in but this is fascinating reading. Sitting here in New Zealand on a beautiful sunny afternoon, while reading live personal accounts of people bracing for a hurricane, made possible by the wonders of the interweb.

You all keep safe and out of harms way, prayers are going up.
