It could be as simple as Hopkins no longer buying into O'Briens strategy and attempting to sway the locker room to give up on him. Doesn't make him a bad guy, but if the locker room didn't agree and word got back to the front office...I could see that as plenty of reason to shop him around.
It was reported below that Hop was unhappy and knew that simply asking for more money would see him to the door.
