just me but I see Brady in Las Vegas; Carr to Indy and G not sure. I know you meant Derek not DavidTom Brady, Derek Carr or Jimmy Garoppolo.
Loomis "ownes" Payton's contract. It's his decision whether to release Payton from his contract and under what terms or compensation. It is not the Texans or Loomis decision.
He's not going to go against what Payton wants to do if reasonable compensation is metLoomis "ownes" Payton's contract. It's his decision whether to release Payton from his contract and under what terms or compensation.
Especially looking at their cap situationHe's not going to go against what Payton wants to do if reasonable compensation is met
He might be a great coach. But I have no way of knowing if he’ll be a good HC. I don’t know if any of the candidates would be good HCs.ESPN Article
This is a great article about Ryans evolution as a coach. I’m excited that he has chosen to interview with us.
If it was about deep pockets he’d stay in TVPayton will probably end up in either Carolina or Denver. The 2 owners with the deepest pockets in the NFL.
Does Cal pay top dollar for assistant coaches? The Houston situation is better than the situation he took over in NO. Cal has shown he will pay whatever towards the coaching staff also. Payton and Cal are also close in age. Plus it frees up Carsterio to move back out the spotlight.
It is not difficult to know who Cowherd is mocking about being a bad owner and screwing up a Zoom call. Payton spent hours telling Cowherd how bad and dysfunctional the Texans ownership is. Denver had the wherewithal to fly to LA to personally meet with Payton. Cal and the misfits zoomed it in. For those who don’t get it yet, Payton is not going to Houston. Since Payton is flying to New York to meet with Tepper, Carolina is in the drivers seat.
???? Payton is looking for a $20mm - $25MM a year contract. There is no way he's getting paid that in TV.If it was about deep pockets he’d stay in TV
Imagine you are the most high-profile HC available interviewing with different owners, first up is the Texans. On the Zoom call is:Holy crap, listening to that made me even more embarrassed for our team. There’s no one else but the Texans that he could’ve been talking about is there?![]()
Why not, if it improves the on field product? In all honesty, I don't want to buy a head coach .... and I really don't want to part with a draft pick .... really !!
"If reasonable compensation is met".He's not going to go against what Payton wants to do if reasonable compensation is met
Teams aren't bidding against each other. Payton will select one team he wants to coach and then that team will have to come to agreement with the Saints"If reasonable compensation is met".
If Texans are offering #12, is #29 reasonable? What else will the Broncos have to give up? Almost certainly a number one in '24. And more. How much more?
It certainly appears that Payton and Denver are in tune. I wonder if they have discussed compensation with Loomis. Indications are that the basics are known, that is, two firsts are a starting point. But with #29 being this year's first, have they gotten down to the nitty gritty of what additional compensation will be required and is Denver willing to give up this draft capital? This is a three way party.
I don't disagree. What happens if "that team" and the Saints can't reach an agreement?Teams aren't bidding against each other. Payton will select one team he wants to coach and then that team will have to come to agreement with the Saints
Payton would have to decide to wait or choose another team. I don't think there is a danger of thatI don't disagree. What happens if "that team" and the Saints can't reach an agreement?
FOMO Cal. Not 1oz of brains. Getting played. DEN and CAR owners have more $ than Gameboy.
True. It’s always questionable on whether a candidate has what it takes to make it as a HC. The only candidate that has HC experience is Payton. He might be a great coach. But I have no way of knowing if he’ll be a good HC. I don’t know if any of the candidates would be good HCs.
The thing that worries me the most about Demeco is that I loved him as a player & he seems like a really good likeable guy.
I’m not looking for the Texans to hire the most likeable, feel good, big splash. I want the Texans to find the guy most likely to lead this team to a championship. Might be Demeco. I hope he is. But that’s the problem.

Yes it will improve but will it bring Houston a championship? Since you like to use history a fair bitWhy not, if it improves the on field product?
Money feeds a massive ego just so far.If it was about deep pockets he’d stay in TV
And you don't think that Payton is playing all teams involved?FOMO Cal. Not 1oz of brains. Getting played. DEN and CAR owners have more $ than Gameboy.
If we don't make the choice before then, we will again obtain a new HC by leftover default.True. It’s always questionable on whether a candidate has what it takes to make it as a HC. The only candidate that has HC experience is Payton.
Which I don’t want to give up the draft capital for. I’m willing to risk it and hire a unproven candidate.
I like all of our choices. I like the wide net of quality candidates that NC has cast. I’m hoping we know who the new coach is by the end of the month.
Sean should be rubbing hands and giggling.Imagine you are the most high-profile HC available interviewing with different owners, first up is the Texans. On the Zoom call is:
Socially awkward Gameboy Cal McNair
Squeaky Hannah McNair
and
Nick Cliche Caserio
So you got that going for you.
If we don't make the choice before then, we will again obtain a new HC by leftover default.
I wouldn't be surprised if he's angling for a bigger role & payday from FoxAnd you don't think that Payton is playing all teams involved?
Very interesting history.

Mike Kafka is in demand: Inside the Giants OC’s meteoric rise to NFL head coach candidate
If Denver can fly to LA then Cal could too, but he did not. A good owner vs a bad owner.
... I’m hoping we know who the new coach is by the end of the month.
Assuming Philly makes it to the SB, Gannon and Steichen should still be available Feb 13. Both are at the top of my list and both have had first interviews. Can a coach be signed before their team is eliminated from playoffs? Kafka may be available to sign next week if Giants lose to Philly, but Gannon, Steichen and Payton are at the top of my list, so this could drag out a bit.If we don't make the choice before then, we will again obtain a new HC by leftover default.
Of course he is. This is a money grab. $100MM PLUS. Cowherd's discussion of his 4-5 hour conversation with Payton was quite damning for the dysfunctional Texans. Hire Michael Kafka. Fire Nick Caserio. And start with a clean slate. And you don't think that Payton is playing all teams involved?
Laremy Tunsil is advising Payton and Tytus Howard.Of course he is. This is a money grab. $100MM PLUS. Cowherd's discussion of his 4-5 hour conversation with Payton was quite damning for the dysfunctional Texans. Hire Michael Kafka. Fire Nick Caserio. And start with a clean slate.
Therein lies the sticking point for the Saints. Reality, Sean won't be coaching the Saints any time soon.....more like never. The Saints would more than likely be negotiating with a single team....which cuts their ability to demand quite a bit. Of the interested teams, the Texans are the only team with the available assets to make a serious move. Denver may want Sean, but would they truly have the available resources to give up? Loomis may have his hopes, but if the Saints want Sean to move on, they'll probably have to accept the best offer given or get nothing.

True
At this point I'm willing to take this chance and bring credibility to the org. I see Payton in the same light that I see Reid in when he left Philly.
Even if it's Stroud?Hire Kalfka and let him work with Caserio like Lovie did and I think you will be very happy with the results. I will feel very good about whatever QB Kalfka chooses in this draft to marry the HC/QB careers with.
I’ll admit that I don’t know all the intricacies of the rules regarding head coaching hires in the playoffs I’d love to know before the end of the month, but I know that there’s a possibility, especially if our top candidates are advancing to the Super Bowl that I could be well into February.Assuming Philly makes it to the SB, Gannon and Steichen should still be available Feb 13. Both are at the top of my list and both have had first interviews. Can a coach be signed before their team is eliminated from playoffs? Even if it's Stroud?
But you wouldn't expect that if it was any other coach/QB?Yep, but if I was Cal I would tell him, we're going to give you your guy, and if this doesn't workout in 3 yrs and the trash agent comes back wanting a new contract, I'm trading him and firing you. Why? Because it's been proven you cant win a championship with your QB taking up more than 15% of the cap and renegotiating Stroud's contract would surely put you over that %.
But you wouldn't expect that if it was any other coach/QB?
That's a work around for Payton.....what the Panthers and Broncos are missing, real draft capital to put on the table. Payton's contract and annual money isn't an issue for the Texans unless they want it to be.
