If I were a HC candidate, I wouldn’t have a problem with it. I’d be like Tomlin going to Pittsburg, or Reid going to Philly. Why would I want to be a 1st time HC with a 1st time OC & a 1st time DC with 1st time position coaches.

Sure. There’s been a bunch of “success” doing it that way recently. But I wouldn’t have a problem taking over here, or New Orleans if they keep their staff.

There will be time for nepotism later.

It is actually all Cal's fault. He made the decision to value $$$$ over doing the right thing. But if you want to get right down to the heart of the matter it's time to blame this franchises state of limbo down to the man who decided to trade up and bring this POS to Kirby to begin with. It's going to take a couple of yrs to wash his stench off of what as going on down on Kirby for the last decade. Dont believe me? Just look at the lawsuits that have been brought against the exans org in the last 5 yrs that relate to sexual harassment..

They are not the reason the stadium is practically a ghost town on game days. General fans, particularly those who pay, aren’t as stupid as the Texans appear to think they are. They can see the good talent leaving and the crap being brought in to replace it. They can also see the scoreboard and the standings, which are a result of that.

Now, I don’t think they know things like Josh McCown being interviewed a 2nd time , and a guy like Brian Daboll not even getting a sniff, so far, or anything like that, but they know enough to know this franchise is a dumpster fire right now without the radio telling them so.

My question is what kind of info do teams have to provide God'ell?

Could that info lead to teams God'ell prefers to be winners lead to a competitive advantage. Before you say this could never happen, look a God'ell's track record.

They offered McCown an assistant HC position last season. He turned them down wanting to spend time with his kids.

It's possible they told Culley they wanted to bring McCown in to replace Kelly, with the assistant HC title & Culley balked, seeing the writing on the wall
 
The NFL site has the Texans as the least desirable landing spot for a new head coach. If the NFL thinks that way, I'm sure some of the potential candidates feel the same. It's totally possible that someone (again) with no experience gets the job.

Another year like last one and the stadium is going to be a ghost town.

Just more of the media telling people what to think. I guarantee you there’s no shortage of coaches from the college ranks, nfl position coaches, nfl coordinators, or coaches that were fired who’d love to sign up for the job.

Even without trading Derrick this HC job is very desirable because the last month of the season it looked like Caserio has drafted the best QB in the class. There will be high picks to put talent around him for the next couple of yrs, what's not to like? This is more media telling the weak minded what to think.

If Derrick is traded then this job goes into the most desirable category. A team with a good young QB with a cupboard full of high picks in addition to the high picks the Texans will already have.

On the surface, that may sound good, but most HCs want to pick their own assistants as they want to have more control of their destiny.

I’m not arguing. Just saying I wouldn’t have a problem with it. & if Nick can’t find anyone else, I’m available.

I mentioned Tomlin & Pittsburg, Reid & Philly. Big difference in those situations is that those were franchises with a tradition of winning. It would be a much harder sell for Houston.

That is intriguing. It also leads to the question that if Caserio is selecting personnel for Lovie's Cover 2 scheme, will those DBs be versatile enough to change on a weekly basis.

Report: Jaguars aren’t close to a deal with any head coach

The Jaguars are trying to hire Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. Unless they aren’t.

In response to a report from Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times that the Jags are attempting to finalize a contract with Leftwich, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the team continues to talk to Leftwich and Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, and that the Jaguars “are not close to a deal with anyone at this time.”

“Jags still haven’t decided which way they’ll go,” Schefter adds.

We trust Stroud’s reporting on the issue. And, frankly, we wouldn’t be surprised — at all — to learn that the Jaguars are trying to leverage Leftwich (as part of the negotiations) with the possibility that they’ll pivot to Eberflus if Leftwich wants too much money, that the Jaguars have leaked what was leaked to Schefter in an effort to advance that agenda, and that Schefter tweeted what he tweeted to curry favor with the Jaguars.

I agree, last team Lovie was made DC of he took the Rams from one of the worst defenses to a top 3 defense in just one season. I would love to see what he could do here with some actual talent on that side of the ball.

That's just another reason to hire Kevin O'Connell for head coach - (OC for Rams). I'd rather watch the Rams play than anyone in the league, (save Texans). That offense looks to me like a sophisticated version of Kubiak's Baby !

From what McClain said was that they offered him an Assistant HC position. Meaning not the HC, but offering him an opportunity to grow into the role.

Remember, Culley was an Assistant HC in KC & Baltimore

There was a strong buzz Tuesday morning around a Patriots duo of Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels coming to Las Vegas as the Raiders’ new general manager and head coach. But 24 hours later, that seems to have been quickly muted.

Ziegler, the Patriots’ pro personnel director and de facto general manager under coach Bill Belichick, interviewed with Raiders owner Mark Davis on Friday. McDaniels, the Patriots’ offensive coordinator, has not interviewed with the team but was considered by most to be Ziegler’s guy given their long history together.

Meanwhile, Patriots inside linebacker coach Jerod Mayo interviewed for the Raiders head coaching job Tuesday.

McDaniels apparently had been calling coaches around the league about putting together a staff, but it appears something happened in the last 24 hours. League sources don’t know if the issue was about compensation or the power structure in Las Vegas or both, but it seems Ziegler and McDaniels are not the leaders in the clubhouse anymore.

I always thought the Assistant HC title was used to reward a senior staff member with a title that designates his seniority on the staff who is a trusted advisor that the HC can delegate more tasks to than the other assistant coaches. For example, Romeo has been the DC/Assistant HC and then Assistant HC when Weaver was promoted to DC. I can see Romeo helping the DC with the defensive game plan, but also breaking down an upcoming opponent's defense with the OC. I don't recall seeing a coach without any experience being an assistant HC. Maybe an offensive assistant or assistant QB coach, but not assistant HC.
