Moderators are not having the personal attacks brother. You might want to chill out with that.

That wasn't a personal attack, wasn't even close to a personal attack. If he had said something like "Maverick is the dumbest SOB that ever fell off the back of a short school bus" that would be a personal attack, and would also make me think that Steel might be talking to my wife. Saying that the reading comprehension has dropped is a general statement about the state of the board.

Watson is basically a sophomore - give him time and a better coaching situation.
Rumblings of dissatisfaction can too easily erode to moving on to "greener" pastures.
Guess I'm just being overprotective.

Where. the. hell. did. I. say. trade. Deshaun. Watson.

?

Yes it was. All because someone doesn't agree. Their reading comprehension is in question.

Come on

Sadly we don't know what Watson can and cant do …. in his 3rd year. This year and next are theoretically the best chances at winning it all - Before he gets a huge second contract.

At this point , we don't even know if he's worth that contract.

I wonder of Cal watches the games and how much he really understands the game of football …. or if he thinks its soccer ? Cause there's no reason to be in year 7 of a 3 year rebuild … and going backwards!

The real question I think you're asking is if Watson doesn't improve in the next couple of yrs, do you give him $35 mil per yr?

You're probably right. Very few are SB winning HC's. Look at everybody's favorite darling Reid, He's been a HC for a long time and 0 SB wins.

The Watson/BOB match is a terrible one and probably why BOB looked like he did in that pic on draft night.

Watson saved his job.

OBrien wanted to roll with Tom savage. That would have been his last year.

OBrien will never win a super bowl

Not sure we'd have a choice frankly. It would the same situation Dallas has found themselves in. Is the QB good enough to make franchise money and can we afford to roll the dice that he's not and be back in QB hell. In many ways we would have it worse than Dallas because Dallas before Dak had Romo who, while never able to win in the post season, was always able to give fans that this was the year. Other than the few games in Osweiler's first, and only, year what hope have Texans had pre-Watson and can they go back to that without even Texan fans rioting?

Me I think he is worth every penny but its also not my money on the line.

There's always a choice, the question is how much are you willing to gamble?

I wouldn't want to pay the Watson/O'Brien combo 38.5M/yr.

I would though pay a Watson/Lincoln Riley combo more.

Or go back to the offense BOB used in Watson's 1st 7 games.

Why didn't Bill O'Brien stick with that from the get go. The offense was scoring around 35 a game, the best in the league at that time.

It was very successful .

Again Obrien is trying to force his type of style on the game. Shoots even Belichick switches up to fit his QB.. example Brissett against the Texans.

Agreed, here is the issue I am having with BoB right now. The team is to hot and cold, there is an old saying that you go to war with the army you have but BoB scheme seems to be designed around going to war with the army he wants or thinks he has.

Do you really think anyone here has an answer for why OB does something? Is anyone here advocating that OB is the answer?

You're right. Statistically very few coaches will win a SB, even if a different coach won a SB every single year.

However, Reid has at least looked competent as a HC in the playoffs and has been to the SB as a HC.

O'Brien gets to the playoffs and gets embarrassed with regularity. Oh we may win the WC game....but it wasn't pretty and then we get completely outmatched in the Divisional round.....if we didn't get completely outmatched in the WC game. I'm not saying Bill O'Brien needs to win a SB for me to think he's a good coach. However, I think he needs to have the team be competitive past the 1st round. We can only play the Bengals or Raiders so many times in the Playoffs.

A man who I've disagreed with many times.

But you get what I'm saying.

Thx, for this post.

Me I think he's the answer, trouble is OB was using his system to tell me what the question is and I wasn't smart enough to understand it. :kitten:

Kubiak won multiple super bowls as OC and HC

It's been this way since the franchises inception and this goes back to ownership.

Last yr the Colts were more talented than the Texans, in addition to getting out coached in all phases of the game.

They were more talented than the Raiders and won

Less talented than the Chiefs and lost are you seeing a theme here?

Same as with the Kubiak regime.

So you're saying the team with more talent always wins? So why isn't NE just given the Lombardi Trophy every single year until Tom Brady retires? Our record said we were "more talented" than Indy.....but most knew what was going to happen in that game.

Oh for the love of God can we please not bring Kubiak into this again. He gone and he's retired from coaching so even if BoB was replaced tomorrow it wouldn't be with Kubiak, let it go already.

He's assistant head coach at Minnesota

You're right, what I read was old and still had him basically as a scout for Denver. Still what does Kubiak have to do with this? He's been gone 6 years now, why does he get dragged up in every conversation? He didn't have any better success here is Houston than BoB has had. He was 2-2 in the playoffs which is not any better than all the division titles BoB has won.

OB is like a negative of King Midas. Everything this guy touches turns into a giant pile of excrement.

The sad thing is there is no way to fire him in season. What, you're going to fire the GM, the HC, and the OC and the defacto head of the entire team in season?

The big mistake here was giving a guy this much power that hasn't even come close to earning it. Big mistake Cal.

Cal better get his freaking head out of his anal cavity and start running this team correctly. Starting with the dismissal of OB the day after the season ends.

Not every time, but most times the most talented team wins. The way upsets happen is when the more talented team turns the ball over.

This is freaking elementary.

Amen

The goat lovers seem to have issues this morning.

Bill O’Brien’s Long Con, Part 1: The Past

A three-part series examining how Bill O’Brien got to where he is with the Texans.

Excerpt:

In the five seasons since he became the Head Coach (HC) for the Texans, O’Brien’s offenses have never been better than 21st in Football Outsiders’ (FO) DVOA rankings, regardless of who his QB was. It’s not often that a HC/Offensive Coordinator (OC) can have a QB like Deshaun Watson, who was ranked 10th in DYAR by FO in 2018, and still have the 21st best offense in football.

Steel is talking out his ass on this one. Jimmy G was drafted in 2014 and that was the same year that BoB signed with the Texans. The two never crossed paths and if he wants to claim that the system in NE is the same no matter who the OC is then you can't give any credit for anything that BoB did in NE to him because in that case he was just a messenger and literally anybody could have done it. Every time Jimmy G had to take the field for any serious game BB switched the scheme up to better suit him and didn't try to run the same thing he runs with Brady. It all may have been the EP system but it was different variations to fit the QBs strengths and no way in hell did he expect him to read defenses and adjust like Brady.

To claim that Jimmy G could make this system work better than Watson is just ludicrous.

BB did limit the clls within the system , but it was still the basic EP system. Tell me what was Jimmy G's record running the modified EP system? Yep if you're and accurate quick decision maker the EP system will work even if it's somewhat modified. If you cant make quick decisions and aren't accurate you will get what we saw Sunday.
