Ed Reed agrees to terms with Texans

Getting back on topic...... I still think Reed signs here. Thinking about the situation more, I just don't think he would do Andre that way. He stuck his neck out there for him, and in the end I believe it'll be enough for him to come to Houston.

Do Andre what way? All he'd have to do is say to Andre: "hey man, thanks for all your help. But, Baltimore made me a better overall deal to stay."

And that would be that. Andre would understand.

Yes, I do think Reed is using the Texans as leverage, but, that doesn't mean that he's necessarily using his friendship with Andre. Was it Andre's boneheaded decision to grab the private jet and fly to Atlanta and get him, and then make a big deal about doing that in the media? I doubt it.

Reed is playing this masterfully, IMO. He's using the Texans, yet, he can also preserve his friendship with Andre.

If the deal was more then I'd agree with you. If its less than what Houston offers then I can't see him doing that. Just my opinion on this one.

I heard someone's sister knew a guy whose brother's friend knew someone who was working door security at Reliant that said Ed Reed is seriously thinking about considering the Texans going forward.

Ravens' interest in elvis dumervil is ongoing he's vouched for by lbs coach don martindale his coach in denver when he had 17 sacks in 2009

This just in:

I have a source who just texted me that Ed Reed IS in fact back in Houston. He got in late last night. He is currently not at Reliant but is instead at the Toyota Center. He is standing in line waiting to buy tickets to the 98° show in June...

New information just in...hot off the press as it were...

My sources(note sources not a single one) have now confirmed that Ed Reed has left the Toyota Center with 98° concert tickets in hand. He is enroute to the Willowbrook Mall where he will be going to H&M to buy a new fedora for the concert. I repeat...Ed Reed has left the Toyota Center and is heading to H&M at the Willowbrook Mall to get an H&M fedora...

Stay tuned as I get more updates!!!

New Updates!!!

My sources, now indicate that Ed Reed has been spotted ice skating at the Galleria. He is wearing blue ice skates, a purple hat, and a white scarf....

Reed's playing us and Baltimore's playing Reed and the Texans are just playing along.......and hoping for the best.

Today from ESPN Kuharsky. 2yr deal $10-11 mil.????:shots:
Ed Reed is sure acting like a guy who's hoping the Baltimore Ravens will still step up and give him the kind of deal he's looking for.

But more likely he's facing the harsh realities of an expensive, aging superstar.

ESPN.com's Ashley Fox doesn't think Reed is going to get the two-year deal with between $10 and $11 million he can have from the Houston Texans in Baltimore.

If the Ravens can move on from Ray Lewis, Anquan Boldin, Bernard Pollard, Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe, they can move on from Ed Reed. Life will go on.

And really, it is time. The Ravens can cut ties with Reed, a beloved member of the franchise, and be good. They can do it with a clear conscience. They won a Super Bowl with Reed, despite all the insanity of last season, when Reed flirted with retiring or quitting or spending time with his family or whatever he was going to do.

The Ravens are loyal, but giving Ed Reed big money would be bad business.

Baltimore stood by him. It won with him. And a decade from now, when he is retired, Reed can come back with (Ray) Lewis and Boldin and Ray Rice and Joe Flacco and celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their greatest professional achievement, and there should be no bad blood. There should be cheers and roses and good feelings.

It ended the way it was supposed to, with Reed on top.

And now it should end.

If Reed signs in Houston will we get safety riding slowly into the sunset with saddlebags full of gold or a fiery competitor wanting to show his skills?

We would get the equivalent of Ken Stabler in Houston, Joe Namith in LA, and Earl Campbell in New Orleans.

If one more person asks if the deal is 10 or 11 million per year....pow! straight to da' moon, Alice.

I think if another team was going to get Ed Reed, it would have happened by now. Texans probably the best offer on the table.

.....According to my sources.

A couple of Ed's tweets and conversations on twitter hint he doesn't think Baltimore's offer is good enough.

Right. That's what this is about, the number of 10 or 11 is for a total 2-yr deal, meaning Houston reportedly is ranging around 5.5-per year, for 2 years.

But people are getting confused and thinking it's 10 or 11 per YEAR. Granted, the wording of these reports can be confusing at first glance...but still, 10 or 11 per year would be Carwin/Eagles type of contract. LOL.

Ed might decide to just retire, too. The longer it drags out, the more he'll decide being retired sounds good.

An offer lingering on the table, with no other team really making noise or having Ed in for visits, and him stretching this out unnecessarily long like this...makes me wonder if we should pull the offer and take it as a sign that it wasn't the hot deal we first thought it was (for us).

However, our deal may be the highest Ed has on the table, which is why he's taking so long trying to see if anyone will outbid.

FWIF, from Profootballfocus:
2. Ed Reed, Safety

In his prime there wasn’t a safety like Ed Reed. Clearly that time has passed. He would still walk away with a positive grade in coverage on the back of four interceptions and seven pass break-ups, but it was only the 17th-highest coverage grade of all safeties. Add in some sub-par run defense and too many missed tackles (15) and he was a long way from being worth the money.

2012 Cap Hit: $8.5m
2012 Performance Based Value: $2M
Value Differential: -$6.5m

BTW, PFF rates Reed as 59th of all safeties.

I really don't think Reed wants to play in Houston. I think Baltimore let him test the market to see what he could get. Now he wants Baltimore to match what Houston offered and they won't do it. Now Reed is stuck with the prospect of playing somewhere he doesn't want to for more money or signing for less and ending his career in Baltimore. Ozzie is one smart gm. This is all just speculation on my part of course.

I honestly never saw him wanting to come here. Just like Chris Myers going to Tennessee for a visit. Leverage.

2013 sure is setting up nicely.

I always felt Manning would be the best fit at free safety. He played free safety and nickel back for the Bears. It shouldn't be that hard to find a run-stopper to play strong safety.

Could all you guys who are certain that Ed Reed is a scrub and all of a sudden is a worthless football player please expand on those comments? Provide some kind of substantial proof that he will not play well next year, for whoever that is?

Annoying when 'fans' spew personal sentiment all over the place all the while blinded to the football ability. Ed Reed makes plays. He will make plays next year, why wouldnt he? Wasnt he making plays in the Super Bowl? What happened in 1 month that leads anyone to believe he is not worth a shot? Crazy talk.

Lol

It was a down year for him no doubt, but he played with some very average players all year as well.

Didn't Baltimore have CB problems this year? If we sign him he won't be the best player in our secondary. it'll be sick.

Aging Ed Reed had 1 less INT last year than Quin has had in his 4 year career.

Absolutely!!!

It was important for the Texans to retain Quin, but....

and Dread-Head likes big butts and can not lie....'

I digress, Ed Reed even at his age is a significant upgrade over Quin... Quin's upside was his age. His younger age.

As an aside.....

I suggested many pages ago in this same thread, the Texans got "Leigh Boddened'd"...

At the end of the day, I'm not pannicking over losing Quin, or apparently being duped by Ed Reed. This actually happens to be a pretty strong draft class for safeties...

In other words, why wouldn't Ed Reed visit a contender who are hungry for a safety? Up his value to A) Baltimore and B) Teams that can overspend.

Yeah, Webb got hurt against Dallas right before they played us if I remember right and they never really could find someone to fill the void on the other side. They all just couldn't get it done. Factor in a hobbled Suggs and Ngata, aging Lewis, and suspect players around him then its no wonder that Reed didn't look great last year.

Could all you guys who are certain that Ed Reed is a scrub and all of a sudden is a worthless football player please expand on those comments?

Who said he was a scrub, or worthless?

To answer the root question of what I hope is hyperbole, all anyone said is that Quin was a better player last year. Others disagree. That's fine, but it's hard to seriously make the case that one is head and shoulders above the other.

Burn %: Quin - 48.4%, Reed 55.6%
Yds allwed rec.: Quin - 334, Reed - 457

Also, Quin was better in tackling, while Reed had 4 INTs to Quin's 2. How that translates across systems is anyone's guess, but neither one are a scrub or worthless. Neither one is head and shoulders ahead of Reed. I think Quin was the better player last year, and I think Quin will never be half the player Reed has been over his career. Do with that what you will, I guess.

Not really- we lost Ladarious Webb in Week 8 to an ACL- he was our best CB. Cary Williams played really ell for us down the stretch, Jimmy Smith, former 1st rder, got hurt but came on in the playoffs. Corey Graham played really well (made C Williams expendable in FA this year), and someother young guys held up well. Pollard was a beast back tere in coverage- we played 2 high or cover 2 most of the time with some single high safety (Reed) or cover zero.

Didn't you have Brown from Texas playing for y'all? If so then you had corner problems.

Bernard Pollard?

Just kidding. My real answer is Matt Elam. Which I have been screaming for what seems like 3-4 months now.

Texans report: Houston no closer to landing ball-hawk Reed

Although general manager Rick Smith and agent David Dunn have talked about free agent free safety Ed Reed since they arrived at the league meetings, they don’t appear to be closer to getting a deal done.

Obviously, Reed wants more than the Texans are offering, but they’re limited by the salary cap. They place a value on players, and it’s difficult to get them to budge.

Webb was hurt in week 6 against Dallas.
