Question…..could Watson become the biggest “Gift Giver” in Texans history?

So far, the gift basket has included enough draft capital for the team to build up a nice core of young talent. Any chance he could throw a cherry on top by gifting them the services of WR, Marvin Harrison Jr as well?

The old saying comes to mind about getting lemons and making lemonade. The joke was you'd better have some sugar or your lemonade is going to suck!

I'd say Caserio inherited some lemons and got his sugar with DeMeco and CJ.

This Browns drama is just the entertainment cherry on top, especially as it relates to the 2024 draft.

I'm looking forward to saying remember when the Browns did Texans a solid? Think it will only be a few decades for me.

Or at least Brock Bowers.

From an early post>

One thing to understand regarding the Injury Reports...........for those that "Do Not Practice/Participate [DNP]" does not mean that they have not "practiced" on their own. From what I have found out, Watson, during the early period that rest and ROM only is needed for a rotator cuff contusion to heal, continued to throw under the supervision of his "private QB coach" Quincy Avery. With too early return to the stress of throwing, a rotator cuff contusion can definitely bleed into the rotator cuff and/or cause small tears, something that apparently occurred.
Thanks you POS enabler Quincy Avery

Or at least Brock Bowers.

Let’s say the Texans are gifted an early enough pick by the Browns to select MHJ….why not roll the dice and trade back into RD1 to secure Bowers as well. This would be a massive infusion of skill position talent to push the offense into elite status. Not to mention the ability to completely engage Slowick’s entire playbook….maybe even adding in a few new wrinkles.

Get the defense their necessary pieces via FA.

Besides the fan base, you can be sure that Haslam is putting pressure on Watson to earn his money. Watson's psyche does not take this type of pressure well.

Report: Deshaun Watson could return next week at Colts
Published October 14, 2023 08:01 PM

A strange situation regarding Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson keeps getting stranger.

A day after Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that Watson could miss multiple more games with a contusion of his rotator cuff, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com says that Watson could be back as soon as next weekend against the Colts.

The conflicting reports shouldn’t surprise anyone, since everything about the Watson injury has been swirling in conflict. He said two days before the Week 4 game against the Ravens that he would play despite the injury. When he didn’t, some in the locker room were surprised and dismayed, given that Watson said he would play.

The team then called Watson’s scratch as “collective decision.” Then, coach Kevin Stefanski said Watson had been medically cleared to play.

All we know at this point is that Watson won’t play on Sunday against the 49ers, as Cleveland emerges from its bye. For the Browns, the overriding question is whether Watson at some reduced percentage is better than one of his backups at 100 percent.

The situation invites extra scrutiny because Watson makes $46 million per year, with a contract fully guaranteed through 2026. Some would say, if he has been cleared, he should at least try to play.

Perhaps he will next weekend.

I do not see how a trade down would allow you to get both of those players. If I remember correctly only two teams Arizona and Chicago have two round one and both of those for each team should be significantly High. It looks like one of the other will probably draft Harrison themselves.

Watson did not practice today.

In an interview today, Watson admitted to a "rotator cuff micro-tear." causing his problem. I've always suspected rotator cuff trauma. What's important to understand is that even legitimate small rotator cuff tears are commonly undetectable even with ultrasound, MRI, CT scan and even arthroscopy. There is no way that Watson's workup could detect a "micro-tear."

There are again mixed reports of Watson's practice status. A report states that Watson today threw ~2 dozen passes..........looked somewhat OK on short passes, but as I would expect, he was less than impressive on longer passes. The best way to extend the rotator cuff injury is to "push" the arm beyond what it is comforably capable. Furthermore, if he comes back, he better not think of designed runs.........in fact, he better consider removing runs out of his playbook. At this point in time, for those reasons, he will be quite compromised.

One last comment, as I pointed out, [See above] there is no way that a micro tear of the rotator cuff could have been definitively diagnosed by the available diagnostic tests. The presented diagnosis is a BS garbage diagnosis. If any accurate diagnosis of a rotator cuff tear was made, it would have been at least a Grade I tear. The rotator cuff tear classification is somewhat differrent than than other tear classifications.

Grade I is not simply a "stretch of the fibers." It is defined as a partial tear of < 3mm tear.

Grade 2 is a partial tear of 3-6 mm deep. depth not exceeding 1/2 of the tendon thickness.

Grade 3 is a complete rupture of the cuff.

A Grade I itself takes 6-8 weeks for the tendon to heal to the bone. Complete recovery time varies by size of the tear, but for even very small tears, full recovery time is close to 4 months.

So what is the truth about his injury?

Deshaun Watson throws some 30-yard passes in return to practice; Amari Cooper says it’d be ‘huge boost’ to get him back for Colts game

[JUST A SNIPPET OF THE ARTICLE THAT IS LESS THAN IMPRESSIVE FOR PLAYING ON SUNDAY......BUT READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE]

With so much confusion surrounding Watson’s injury until he cleared it up on Wednesday, Van Pelt — addressing the situation on coordinator day instead of Kevin Stefanski — was careful with his words. No one wants a repeat of the Ravens game, where Watson believed on Friday he’d play, but then got the MRI results on Saturday night that showed he had a strained rotator cuff — complete with microtears. It’s a four to six week injury, and Sunday marks four weeks.

“Ramping him up, getting him ready, getting him back,” Van Pelt. “So, we’ll see how it goes (Thursday), but excited to get him back out on the field. I know he’s excited.”

In the early part of practice open to the media, Watson went first in drills as usual, which seems like a good sign. He left some of his early 10-yard passes short, but put more heat on the ball as the shoulder loosened, with mixed results. He was off on a sideline route to Donovan Peoples-Jones, and short on a pass over the middle to David Njoku.

But by the end of the 20 minutes or so, Watson was completing passes 30 yards downfield to Amari Cooper, Marquise Goodwin and David Njoku. He didn’t spin the ball with his usual velocity, but had decent zip on it. It passed the eyeball test enough to see him giving it a whirl on Sunday, especially if the Browns can run the ball on the Colts’ 18th-ranked run defense.

But Watson must feel confident that he can throw the ball effectively enough to help the team and not hurt it before he’ll step on the field.

Flying J is going to run that 230 million dollar investment into the ground.

Rotator cuff injury [in Watson's case at least Grade 1 with or without bursitis or bone bruise]of any type requires (if smart) total throwing rest [not ROM exercises] for weeks. Thanks to Watson and Quincy Avery, Watson was correct with at least one of his statements.........."I don't believe that I will be 100% this season."

What one of Deshaun Watson’s Browns teammates shared with him about his own rotator cuff injury

Deshaun Watson has gotten some advice from Ogbo Okoronkwo on his strained rotator cuff.

BEREA, Ohio — Browns defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo knows what Deshaun Watson is going through with his strained right rotator cuff, and has urged him over the past month to take all the time he needs to return.

Okoronkwo suffered a rotator cuff injury — he declined to specify if it was strained or torn — in his final season at Oklahoma, and wishes he would’ve shut it down “100%” instead of pushing through it for about six games.

Watson is wearing a classic rotator cuff brace at practice today. They resist some motions........not ideal for a QB.

If Watson does try to play Sunday, expect him to do very little passing to the left, as this is what places the greatest stress on his rotator cuff. Every video pass I could find today was to the right side of the field. Defensive coordinators need to take heed of this limitation.

There is no way that Watson did not get MRI results immediately.

After fully practicing Friday, I think Watson is going to play on Sunday. I also think Cleveland has spent the last several days operating under that assumption. Based on how this has been handled to this point, though, I’m going to stop short of assuming anything. For now, the last thing I’ll say about Watson’s claim that he didn’t get MRI results until the day before the Baltimore Ravens game — which didn’t really vibe with both Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry saying in the days that followed that Watson planned to play and had a short-term injury — is that nothing of the last several weeks matters except Watson playing well once he’s back. And it looks like he’ll be returning Sunday.

The Browns have elevated PJ Walker again to the 53. Per NFL rules, a team is allowed to elevate two players off the practice squad each week to the active roster and essentially carry 55 players on game day, without needing to make a corresponding move. Each practice squad player is only allowed to be elevated three times during the season though before he must be signed to the 53-man roster. In Walker's case, that means he can be elevated one more time, if needed. To be activated a fourth time requires the player to be signed to the regular roster.

While I’m enjoying every second of Derapist looking like absolute garbage, I can’t help but wonder what’s going on with that scumbag. It’s like his football IQ and skill is nonexistent. Good stuff!

If Doc is right (& I'm not doubting him) Watson let himself be pressured into playing this game. He's going to have trouble getting the ball where he wants it to be when he wants to get it there because of his shoulder.

He’s going to blame the medical staff and Haslam to say they pressured him to play when he wasn’t ready and will force another trade.

I barely post in this part of the forum but I just wanna say that I’m so glad Watson wanted to be traded, if it wasn’t for him we probably wouldn’t even think or had a chance of drafting S7roud :handshake:

I said at the time Derrick wasn't as good as most on here thought he was and the Texans would never win a thing with him as their QB and they needed a total rebuild. We can thank Derrick's perversions for the Texans having a much bright future today than they ever would've had if Derrick remained the Texans QB.

This is a very interesting article that essentially that Haslam is probbably eventually going to get his deserved screwing.........especially interesting is it's mention that "restructure "seems highly unlikely, considering his representation specifically negotiated a fully guaranteed deal that even included workarounds for his 2022 suspension

As I posted earlier, his cuff injury (which limits internal rotation of the arm/shoulder) would force him to pass to the right side of the field. All of his passes but 1 were to the right.........his only completion was a 4 yd completed pass to his left, for which he had to turn his entire body in that direction. No doubt, his shoulder status resulted in a miserable performance. It would not surprise me that he would have extended his cuff injury durring his throws, especially with his attempt to throw that longer pass that was intercepted.
