Fat Albert Haynesworth, Haloti Ngata, Vince Wilfork. The Packers had a couple of 330+ lb guys on their line, as did the Seahawks. There were plenty of big boy DTs then. Now you're looking at exceptions.

I appreciate that you picked out some nice examples, but there were 30 teams over the period Myers played, they were still the exceptions.Fat Albert Haynesworth, Haloti Ngata, Vince Wilfork. That’s one hell of a lineup. Let’s see if this group of guys can get us to the promised land!
At least one of us gave examples.I appreciate that you picked out some nice examples, but there were 30 teams over the period Myers played, they were still the exceptions.
Is that no longer a requirement now? Or did he end up getting vaccinated?Up and comer, Pop lost his job with Patriots because he refused mandatory vaccination requirements for Tier 1 employees. He worked directly under the great Dante Scarnecchia for three years.
Bill Lazor is the only significant name that I saw that had not been discussed or linked.

How do we not? We draft one every year.
22 assistant coaches? Seems light?
Nah, it looks like they have the bases covered.22 assistant coaches? Seems light?
Where's the assistant head coach? The clock management coach? The assistant TE coach?Nah, it looks like they have the bases covered.
Sure.Where's the assistant head coach? The clock management coach? The assistant TE coach?
There could be more.
There could have been a buy 1 get 1 free deal on assistants, too. Ryans is thrifty like that.Sure.
I thought you were being facetious.![]()
When they actually use the TEs then maybe.Out of 21 drafts the Texans have picked a TE in 10 of them.
They've picked a RB in 12 of them.
Can we change the joke now?
I'm trying to see the bright side to this hire. But as hyped as he might be, he has not been a truly successful offensive NFL coach.Bill Lazor is the only significant name that I saw that had not been discussed or linked.

Agree. I went WUT?I'm trying to see the bright side to this hire. But as hyped as he might be, he has not been a truly successful offensive NFL coach.
Jake Olson; assistant to the coaches.

Lazor was at one time considered the next big thing as an OC. Since then he's had multiple jobs as an OC, never with a good QB.
Sign him up.In 2019, he sustained a back muscular strain and was out for a while. When he returned, he was found to have a sports hernia for which he underwent surgery the beginning of the 2020 offseason. In 2021, he sustained a grade II MCL and placed on IR. He return to play after 4 weeks (mandatory), despite the fact that he was ready to go by 3 weeks. Mid December last year, he suffered a grade II MCL with the IR mandatory time out of 4 weeks (again, he was ready to return by 3 weeks had he been allowed). I'd say he has been quite durable.

Obviously he's a smart guy and not a lemming.Up and comer, Pop lost his job with Patriots because he refused mandatory vaccination requirements for Tier 1 employees. He worked directly under the great Dante Scarnecchia for three years.
And one of those Florida thundershowers came thru to make the butt kicking worse. Wasn't that the game Mallett pulled his crap? No. Foster went down with the Achilles in Miami. I too was at that game. I remember because we were suffering an embarrassing blowout loss, with Lamar Miller looking like a HOF rb.
The A.S.S. coordinator may handle (pun) those.Where's the assistant head coach? The clock management coach? The assistant TE coach?
There could be more.
Tannehill actually showed to be better than we thought outside of Miami. Just imagine how he would have developed had he gone to the right team with the right staff. But those QBs were generally highly drafted and Lazor did not do much to make them better (or at so it seems)
Bill Lazor has experience...........with questionable success.

That should be the defensive coordinator's job as he will be doing nothing else game time.A clock management specialist would be great actually.
William V. Lazor (born June 14, 1972) is an American football coach who is the senior offensive assistant for the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL). Lazor has previously served as the quarterbacks coach for the Washington Commanders, Seattle Seahawks, and Philadelphia Eagles. He is also the former offensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, and Chicago Bears. He played college football as a quarterback for Cornell University from 1991 to 1993.Lazor was at one time considered the next big thing as an OC. Since then he's had multiple jobs as an OC, never with a good QB.
Makes me question that whole paradigm.
Like Demeco coaching behind Salah... how would Vance Joseph look if he was in that circumstance?
Or coordinators under Ried, or Belichick, how much of that is really "their" success?
Coordinators under questionable coaches with questionable circumstances, how much "questionable" are they responsible for?
I think it's really hard for people from our perspective to know how good an assistant coach is/ isn't if we haven't talked to him or any of the people he's coached.
But is it a good reason? How have they done so far? There’s a reason everyone poaches Lil Shanny and Mcvay’s coaching staffs when it comes hiring time.
Agree! I had this exact same conversation with a co-worker. When an OC is working for an offensive minded HC, how do you truly evaluate that OC? Excluding the Chiefs with Bienemy and Reid. It seems the public perception is driven by the media and fans who seem to give total credit to the OC for developing the QB and running a successful offense.Makes me question that whole paradigm.

I think I remember Brian Hoyer playing the entire game, I’m not 100% sure though. I remember Dolphin fans asking me why Obrien and Romeo were still employed after halftime. To make matters worse, fans kept bringing up the Texans blowout loss to the Falcons from the previous 2-3 weeks. Needles to say, O’Brien was NOT my favorite guy in 2015.And one of those Florida thundershowers came thru to make the butt kicking worse. Wasn't that the game Mallett pulled his crap?

The hope is always that these hot candidates' experience/exposure from being around successful coaches/players/organizations translates into their own success as a HC. The only way to find out is to give them a chance. Sometimes you get a McVay and other times you get a McDaniel. And if you're really lucky you get LegendaryAgree! It seems the public perception is driven by the media and fans who seem to give total credit to the OC for developing the QB and running a successful offense.
For example. Look at the last hiring cycle. Due to the Eagles' success, Shane Steichen became a hot HC candidate. He gets credit for Jalen Hurts' development and that explosive offense. However, if you look at Nick Siriani's background, he's been part of successful offenses with the Colts, Chargers and even with the Chiefs and Matt Cassel. So, how can any outsider separate Steichen from Siriani's influence? I guess it's a leap of faith you have to take when hiring these young HCs.
Zac Taylor never called plays either fwiw. Actually, none of those guys under Shanny or McVeigh ever called plays. From what I am hearing Slowik has never called plays. He's undoubtedly very intelligent from all sources, but his call playing experience makes me somewhat empirically uncomfortable, especially under a defensive HC. I guess time will tell.
Britt is done. He was done last year. You know what? Justin Britt might actually be a good Center if we switch to the ZBS.
But is it a good reason? How have they done so far?
So that's where the bar is?Better than Belichick coaches.
