Demeco Ryans’ Staff

Still no OC or DC...you'd a thunk they'd have known who they want from the git-go....Oh well, patience I guess.
Why would you think that? There's a process involved. A new HC might know who he wants, but permissions need to be granted, etc. The playoffs weren't over and the SB hasn't been played. Give it time and let the process play itself out.

As I said, patience.

They know they have to hit it out of the park. Grand slam homer style aka Yordan.

They want to win now IMO
I wouldn't say they expect to be SB or bust, but so far it does seem like the goal next season is to look like we aren't starting a rebuild.

Im still very cautiously optimistic while still remaining in my perpetual pessimism until they prove they got it right.

Gary was an advisor to the the Vikings when Klint was there.

It would be nice to have Gary advising the offense in various ways. Or have him available for Demeco to lean on from time to time.
I worry about Gary's health. But if he could work for 6-8 weeks and help Ryans find a QB I would be very happy. Kubiak is great at evaluating QB's.

When Sean McVay became HC he had Wade Phillips and Joe Barry on his staff to help him.

I wonder if Demeco will bring in an older seasoned coach to help him navigate that first year. Kubiak would be great.

I wonder who else he might bring in.
Wade Phillips?

Harris isn’t the only name that’s been mentioned in Houston so far. A little over a week ago, the first few names of interest were reported. Jets safeties coach Marquand Manuel, 49ers passing game specialist/secondary coach Cory Undlin, and 49ers defensive line coach Kris Kocurek were all mentioned as candidates of interest in Houston. Manuel is the only one of the four who has experience as a defensive coordinator, but with Ryans leading the team, it appears prior experience is not a requirement.

Speaking of the others, hopefully the Colts pick Saturday to be their HC.... umh

Cough...

I mean, I hope they don't, that would surely hand the Colts dominance over the division and likely the entire AFC to the point they are crowned SB Champs before preseason ends.

Everyone would surely be saying "Meco who?"

Klint was on Kubiak's staff in Denver in 2016.

He remained with the Broncos when Kubiak kicked upstairs and then followed Kubiak to Minnesota.

Without adding any talent you could probably squeeze another three wins out with Ryans and his staff here next year. (schedule also) Better tackling, harder play, commons sense coaching....lord it seems like forever when we were good and not a drama show to boot. I'm truly excited and I'll guess I'll have to sign up for Sunday Ticket on YT.

Regarding the time it’s taking to fill the staff out…during Kubiak’s 610 interview they just asked him a general question about mistakes to look out for as a first time HC and he basically said ‘rushing to fill the staff’.

I’m guessing since him and Demeco are pals they’ve probably had this conversation and Demeco is heeding the advice.

I'd think the staff will largely be filled in the next two weeks with OC and DC first in line - perhaps by the end of this week. But I'm definitely in the camp of do it right, not fast. Keep interviewing people until you get the people that best align with the HC.

Just a side note, but I think any speculation about Ryans serving as his own DC are close to out the window. He's been linked to various folks for the DC position. I guess he could always say that he couldn't find the perfect guy and I'm serving as both HC and DC but hope he chooses to delegate that role. Of course, he'll be heavily involved during the week, but on game day, I want my HC to primarily focus on big picture stuff and less on play calling and other minutiae of a coordinator position.

I know that Kubiak had a stroke, or mini-stroke, here in Houston but has he had another cardiovascular episode since then ?

Meanwhile Lovie had basically his entire staff assembled before the surprise press conference announcing him as HC…

I think having some of those older hc staff guys like Kubes could be insulation if the younger guys get head coaching jobs. Kubes with Slovik, young Kubes and someone like Johnson as qb coach would be good on that side. Which of those Kubiak guys passed last year? Was it Dennison or Knapp? I like one of those guys as o-line coach.

Wonder Slowik/Kubiak haven't been named OC/QB coach yet?

I'm for bringing in Jerrod Johnson too.

Wonder who the OL coach is going to be? That's as important a position as OC. IMHO

Knapp was the QB coach that passed.

I would be all in on bringing in Dennison as OL/run game coach like his mentor HOF'er Alex Gibbs was. RIP Coaches Gibbs/Knapp.

IMO it's looking like the DC will be coming from one of the Superbowl teams. To me it looks like they are waiting for that to be over so that they can make a joint OC and DC press conference. I'm not sure who they are targeting for DC, but it looks like Swoik(or however it's spelled) will be the OC. I'm guessing that the DC will come from the Eagles, just a guess.
