Bryce Young vs CJ Stroud

There are many OCs that I think deserve a chance. I would consider a defensive minded coach that could bring in a good OC.

Shane Steichen - Eagles
Kellen Moore - Cowboys
Mike Kafka - Giants
Wes Phillips - Vikings
Shane Waldron - Seahawks
Ben Johnson - Lions
Byron Leftwich - Bucs
Ken Dorsey - Bills
Brian Callahan - Bengals

Joe Brady - Bills as an OC

no on Kellen Moore

all the other guys are already OC’s. Aside from that, isn’t there some type of provision in the NFL that these guys can’t make lateral moves from other teams? If they’re moving to another team They have to be promoted up? Furthermore, Why would they come here when they’re already OC’s?

I really like the idea of Kellen Moore. I think he’s got it.

& I can imagine Jerrah losing hisht if Kellen makes H-Town a contender.

Point being, no qb from the air raid had success until Mahomes. None of the Cal/Oregon /Tedford touch guys had success until Rogers. Hell, who had success from Michigan before Brady? Its about the prospect and their skillset, not their school and who came before them.

Yet all the talk is about Caleb Williams or Drake Maye next year..

And so let's look at the laundry list of legit franchise qbs USC and NC have combined to produce..

1. Carson Palmer

Yup, non-stop QB factories we're talking about..

This is what I've been trying to say, in addition to thinking the 2024 QB class is better than the 2023 QB class. Cal wants a QB though and the 1-1 pick will be a QB. Hopefully Young. Gotta start to sell those tickets again.

What if your assumption is wrong and both Young & Stroud are transformational for respective teams?

Texans wait another year and select a QB, for whatever reason, and he busts?

You just don’t know. That’s why you take what is right in front of you now, build around him & turn Texans around.

You try to make the best informed decision you can make , by using history as your guide. Which is why I don't like either of these QB's.

But hey, maybe these guys break the mold. I wouldn't bet 1-1 on it. You would and it's ok to agree to disagree.

Don’t take it from me, there are others, plenty in fact who feel the same way about Bryce Young. He is a very clean prospect both on & off the field. Leadership unquestioned. I’m sure John Metchie would be elated to be reunited with his old QB. Lot to ask an 22 year old to be the face of a Professional franchise but he is equipped to handle pressure of being the 1st overall pick (far more than most) and all the baggage that comes with raising expectations for worst NFL franchise.

Hooker throwing to Johnston, Collins, Hyatt, Metchie, and Dell would be quite the WR group.

Toss in Pierce and Charbonnet….it gets even better.

Everyone I listed other than Joe Brady was to be considered a HC candidate. If the Texans went with a defensive coach as the new HC, I mentioned Brady as OC.

Kingsbury was a new HC.

Didn't he work with Kolb at UH as an assistant?

Boller?
No, Kingsbury came in to UH with Kevin Sumlin. Case Keenum was the QB at the time. Kingsbury was the OC for A&M when Manziel won the Heisman.

Boller? Kingsbury and Kyle Boller were both college QBs from 99-02.

Kingsbury developed some pretty good college QB's, which is why he got the Cards job.

Tedford and Boller

Cal has seen enough to be convinced they have turned the corner. Cal will bring everyone back. Cal thinks beating the Colts this weekend is a good idea. :)
If we've turned a corner it's only to find 2 doors..
Tiger or the lady?

They say Trey Lance, but it's more about Bryce Young.

Personally I'm not worried about his height. He's playing behind NFL OLmen, so I don't think that's going to be an issue. My thing is that he's so skinny. I can't imagine he's going to last very long. Some guys want to say a few years in the NFL he's going to get bigger. But Teddy Bridgewater is just as skinny as he was now as he was when he came into the league.

But they mentioned a couple of names with that "size." He looks skinnier to me than the guys they mentioned, but if measures out like Jeff Garcia, one of the guys they mentioned, I'll start looking past his size. Jeff Garcia is listed as 6' 205lbs. So that's bigger than what current speculation is about Young.

Still, skinny guys like Garcia, Montana, Eric Kramer, Jim McMahnon... heck, Watson & Mills look pretty skinny to me, those guys weren't "injury prone"

Young has taken some pretty good shots in the last 2 years at Alabama and seems to keep on clicking. I thought the shoulder injury earlier this season would put him out for the year but he bounced back after a game and a 1/2. He deems to have an uncanny ability to avoid serious contact that hopefully he retains.

Well I think I’ve made my decision, lol. I want Hendon Hooker for QB from Tennessee in the 3rd. Use the top pick on Anderson. If we end up with second pick and he is gone I’m not a fan of Carter. So still trying to figure that out, maybe Quentin.

Can someone start a thread about Carson Palmer as to how tall he was and how much he weighed and perhaps his
Favorite color?

You and I totally agree on NOT drafting Young. What do you think of Stetson Bennett?
He’s actually 5’11 and 190 lbs. That’s what Wikipedia has him listed as. So if they’re wrong about Young who they have listed at 6’ and 194 lbs. Then Stetson must be 5’10

Maybe the best QB in this draft. Has beat Stroud and Young and has a better record too. His stats are as good if not better than Stroud or Young. Has played for 5 yrs so is more experienced and has 2 years on the 3 yr juniors. His pinpoint accuracy is what HCs and OCs live for.

About all I got out of that was you have to look at football traits and physical makeup. Young might not be his first choice?

I actually took it somewhat the opposite. I took it as something as simple as height/weight - physical makeup - is but one component of a comprehensive evaluation. There are the many other necessary factors to be considered - system played in, what will be asked of in a different system, coachability, mental makeup, translatable traits, etc. So perhaps not ruling out a Bryce Young merely due to his physical stature.

Of course he, as per usual, 'answered' a question by tossing up copious amounts of vague, 3 card monte-esque non-commital word salad in hopes to say things without saying things. So I suppose he wins by leaving the door open enough for whomever to have heard and taken it all however that can be explained or excused away whenever. Or whatever.

We all understand your first paragraph atypical draft talk, second paragraph you nail the non-specific, generalizations. Nice 👍

Best QB in the draft? There you go again.

Do think he will be a very good 3rd day pick for some team. Exactly what you look for in a back-up QB. I could see New England or Miami targeting him. You just never know who’s next Purdy

Watching the Pat McAfee show today with Mike Lombardi s a guest and everyone was all over Stetson Bennett IV. All agreed that Stetson would be climbing the ladder and some suggested he may be better than Young and bigger.

I'd like the Texans to avoid both Young and Stroud. I don't believe either are franchise changing quarterbacks. In 2024 there's a better chance of drafting that guy. If the Texans want to hedge their bets, they could draft Jaren Hall this year in the 3rd round.

I just finished watching the 2021 National Championship again. At the end of the game Bennett hugged Young and Bennett looked like he was 2” taller than Young.

I also watched uga vs osu. Bennett has a much quicker release and better feet than Stroud.
