Brandin Cooks to the Texans

What I am hoping is DJ can get close to 2016 stats without those carries in this offense. Those "other weapons" are why my hope exists. Watson should have 550 - 600 passing attempts and 6000 yards with both DJs getting significant yardage, air and ground. IMO it all rests on #4.
Wow. 6000 passing yards is VERY optimistic for Watson considering last year he only passed for 3800. Some improvement is warranted but double??

Wow. So Watson is expected to break Manning's single season record of 5477 yards by 523 yards? BTW, what has been the highest ranked offense under O'Brien?

He had a 67 percent accuracy which I fully expect to go up and much improved targets all around. I also expect TEs to play much larger role but then again I expected that last season too. 5,000 is more than doable so even add 300-500 to that would be acceptable. I think his passing TDs will increase a lot.

Earl I am not going to focus on history but my expectations of this season with this roster. I do get your point.
edit: Brady passed 613 times with 61 % accuracy. Watson 495 so give him another say 150 with this group of catchers? Yep.

Exactly why do you WANT me to do this?

Truth hurts

Is this MB becoming a freakin dictatorship.
It's a personal attack, the natural thing for him to do is to respond with a personal attack. Things escalate.

Talk about the things he says, not about him. It's always been this way.

& don't think I'm singling you out. I've made the same request recently to another poster. I don't know if it's cabin fever or O'Brienhatentitus, but this calling out each others "fandom" is happening more & more frequently.

We need to flatten the curve.

What’s the difference in group of receivers? Hopkins trade off for Cooks and Cobb is new. So you’re saying Cobb will increase his attempts by 150? With David Johnson added I would expect his pass attempts to go down if anything. Most likely remain consistent around 500-550.

He puts racist BS out there all of the time and you dont say sh!t. But God forbid I tell the truth in that he's a WOF/Nuk guy and not a Texans fan. Did you remove or let him know it was wrong of him to call me a logo fan? He!! no. Not surprised at the double standards.

I dont think DW4's going to have the type of yr BB thinks he's going to have ever. (Not even close) If he gets 4,600 yds next yr I will be surprised. What I wont be surprised about is everybody but DW4 will get blamed for his issues by some on this MB.

To answer your question if healthy WFV/Cooks are threats to score every time they touch the ball. They create mismatches/stretch the field/open things up for Cobb (Who is the best slot this franchise has ever had) and DJ who is a like a WR playing RB. (So many weapons)

I was merely asking what he meant by “this group of receivers” should merit him 150+ more attempts than last year. There isn’t much change from last year that’s going to get DW4 to pass 650 times, almost record numbers especially after acquiring David Johnson. I expect our rush attempts to go up this year, not our pass attempts.

I actually expect the pass attempts to go up a little bit. But not near enough for DW4 to put up the numbers BB thinks he's going to put up.

Fuller 4.33. Cobb 4.34, Cooks 4.33 and slow Kenny Still 4.38 as discussed elsewhere each will allow the others to increase target opportunities as well as open middle of field sideline to sideline for TEs. Why would David Johnson reduce Watsons attempts? DJ is extremely good receiver from backfield and in tremendously less snaps than Hop had half as many touchdowns last season. I am not saying he is better but Hopkins is gone and our new offense should serve #4 greatly.

I am hope our rushing attempts will drop but be much more productive. Due to the field opening up as I and SBT mention, our RBs will have behind a better Oline even greater productivity than Carlos Hyde brought. Probably will not occur but I want to see more balance between DJ 1 and DJ 2 than Hyde Duke.

Where are you getting 4.34 for Cobb? nfl.com has him listed at 4.46

TE's production only goes up if the OL can do its job otherwise they will once again be cast as blocking OLT or ORT. So, will a starting unit of Tunsil(??), Scharping, Martin, Fulton, and Howard be capable of giving Watson the pocket time to pick apart defenses? And, allow the TE's to become an ntegral part of the passing game? And, allow the running game be successful enough to keep defenses guessing and honest?

I agree with most of your opinions on this, but still think your projection for DW4 to pass for over 6000 yards is absurd. His careers totals so far are 4165 yards and 3852 yards. The NFL record for most passing yards in a season is 5477. How do you figure in this offense Watson is going to shatter Peyton Manning's record by over 500 yards??

Or if DW4 can speed up his processing and stop holding onto the ball so long, because there will be people open.

From my perspective, the thing about Watson holding the ball too long. I just want him to make a decision fast. Throw it away, or take off & run. I don't feel he takes into account the situation. Whether it's 1st & 10 & you can afford to waste a play, 1st & 20 & you need to at least get something, 3rd & 4 & you need to make a first down, 5 minutes left & you're down by 10. Many times, he's holding on to the ball & he needs to force the issue. Run for 15 yards, chuck it & move on to the next snap, take the check down.

Whether or not there are people open, whether or not he trusts a particular reciever, or someone ran the wrong route. He can't just hold the ball & wait for the sack or would be sack.

Any "prediction" is a guess based upon assumption. Watson will improve; healthy oline improves; TEs will improve due to better everything mentioned plus Kelly uses position better. If one is willing to assume that Watson Is better why should we not assume the rest can come true?

I figure this offense will be greatly better than 2019 offense. It costs nothing to have high expectations. An athlete does not say "I am going to be as good as I was last year." Some set high goals and strive to get there. Are we gonna gripe "Watson only passed for 5100 yards and 30 TDs"?

Yeah , some will.

Would you bet your job security on the offense turning the corner if it hits the field as built today?

I’m not sure OB is that certain his offense will make a huge turnaround as built b/c he could be on the hot seat if it hits a snag.

Everything points to not living in the past as we bring in fast receivers to go with Fuller and Stills plus an RB who is really good receiving. What indicates an increased running game? Sure I think we will get more out of fewer snaps with the DJs but this offense is not yesterdays. Passing game to set-up the run.

I think Bill is on hot seat no matter what and yes he is betting his security on offense as he created it but also on overall team. If they go 14-2 and win the AFC championship, neither I nor CAL will be disappointed. I want another move in bringing Trent Williams here to play RT moving Howard to Right Guard. The turn around does not have to be huge but it is not unrealistic to think Tunsil will be even better with drop in penalties; Sharpie in year two will be even better as will a healthy Howard and even Martin with a more solid Fulton next door should be better. Natural NFL growth of health and maturation of rookies is indicative of a better line.

Stop letting him get away with his racist BS.
We differ on the definition of racist.

But it's an attack on a poster to call him a racist whether what he said was racist or not.

Try to understand. Attack post, not poster.

This shouldn't be this difficult.

I highly doubt this because they went this route before and the running game was still the main feature. A healthy David Johnson can run effectively between the tackles. Bill O’Brien is still the mastermind of this operation. And with the small success with Hyde has given him a satisfaction to run his type of offense. Dude always wanted this power running game. In his presser he bragged on how Hyde had his best outing here. Not only that the offensive line was pretty good in the beginning. Therefore if lady health show us some love, we will be able to set up the pass with a successful running game. Now if we’re playing against a very weak secondary and suspect pass rush. I then can see us leaning on the passing game. Example: the Falcons game last season. I do believe coach wants a more balanced attack.

Ever since DW4 has been drafted, I've been going into the next season optimistic of the offense.

2017 - Whoa, we got this brand new QB. We should get better!
2018 - A healthy Watson, we should be awesome.
2019 - A revamped OL, Duke, our offense should be prolific.

Utilizing DVOA, our offense has improved (ranked 24, 21, 16). So technically, the offense has improved, just at a much lower rate than I expected. So once again, I expect the offense to improve, but I'm tempering expectations. To me, the performance of the OL will be the difference between a top 5 vs top 15 offense.

I doubt BO'b is on the hot seat at all. He & Cal are expecting to make the playoffs & hopefully a Super Bowl.

I think (don't agree with) as long as he makes the playoffs he's safe. Don't even come close & he's in trouble, but no different than any other coach.

These WR's will also need to learn how to read the blitz in OB's offense.

If this Texans offense is 6,000 passing yards of prolific....:trophy:
Cooks/Cobb are professionals, although it could be a problem without TC.

Without TC I expect them to be better than Coutee at this aspect of their jobs.
