Panthers and Browns out on DW and Falcons seem the landing spot so I am focusing on some of those round twos we should have if deal goes thru as I hope. We will have our own #37 and ATL #43 and #58 minimum unless Nick lets them keep one and get 2023 round two. That's a significant stash and I want to again bring up players to consider that I really like.
DE Cameron Thomas 6'4" 267 a junior in 2021, Thomas exploded with 12 sacks (7th nationally in sacks per game), 21 QB hits, and a massive 44 QB hurries. 20 TFL. He was awarded the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, as voted on by the coaches and media. I was hoping to land Brian Burns from Carolina Panthers but this guy could look good playing with Greenard.
CB Roger McCreary
As a freshman, McCreary didn't see a lot of action and it wasn't until his sophomore season he saw extensive playing time. In that year despite not being a starter he still managed 41 tackles and 10 passes defended and this performance led him to him winning the starting spot for 2020.
Starting all 12 games in the regular season for Auburn, McCreary totaled 49 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, a sack, 2 interceptions, and 14 pass deflections.
As a senior McCreary really started to get the attention of NFL scouts where in 13 games as a starter he played a huge 830 snaps, logging 49 tackles, 2 interceptions, 13 passes defended, and an impressive 57.8 QB rating when targeted - as a result, he received first-team All-SEC recognition and was named a first-team All-American team by The Athletic and made ESPN’s and the Senior Bowl’s All-American teams. McCreary ran a
4.5 40-yard dash at the Combine and bettered that with his first 40 at
Pro Day with a 4.46. Measuring at 5-foot-11 and 3/8 and 191 pounds, McCreary also 31.5-inch vertical and did 19 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
McCreary allows Nick to avoid CB in round one {not what I would do} if we get AJ Terrell from DW trade.
FS/CB Dax Hill: I love this guy and can play all DB spots!
- Crazy athletic talent - Hill ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash, which ranked 14th overall at the combine. Hill’s 20-yard shuttle (4.06 seconds) and three-cone drill time (6.57 seconds) were the best at safety
- Aware zone safety who is also adept in man coverage could happily move to corner if required
- Gets an effective jam on the receiver and has loose enough hips to turn and run.
- Long-armed press safety with size, athleticism, and ball skills.
- Hill put up the top SPARQ rating in the 2019 class
- Lean, athletic build with plenty of room for additional muscle mass.
- Gives up his body in run support with a very good closing burst.
- With his length, athleticism, and natural ball skills, he will be highly valued by press cover teams and could earn a top 50 pick.
- Good instincts and anticipation reads and reacts with discipline. Dangerous with the ball in his hands.
- Plays the ball as if it was thrown for him, showing burst back to the ball as well as good timing for the jump ball.
- A surprisingly good tackler who despite his corner like appearance can quite happily play in the box
IOL Zion Johnson is all over mocks as late round one early round 2. Even if we took Ekwonu I would strongly recommend Johnson at 2.37 for RG
and if Salyer falls to our 3.80 darned if I don't take him for our new right tackle. How about:
LT Tunsil LG the monster Ekwonu OC Britt RG Zion {1 sack in 2300 snaps! 0 pressure and only 4 missed blocks last year} RT Jamaree Salyer.
Think Warhog (pun intended) could move some defenders and protect Mills?
