What team are you looking at? We don't have the necessary players at "almost any position"? Really?
RB? We got the players. WR? We got the players. OL/DL? We both got some players and we just drafted the hell out of some players. Secondary? We got some players. LB? We got some players. I think we've got the necessary players at most positions to get to the playoffs and quite possible win a couple of games. QB we got questions at. No doubt about it. Teams have made the climb with questions at QB. Guys have stepped up for a year and played lights out. Backups have come forward and led their teams to success.
This **** isn't impossible. It happens often. Just a couple of years ago Seattle was a joke to many and people were wondering what in the hell Pete Carroll was trying to accomplish with some of the moves he was making. Things change quickly in this league and despite the experiences of the last two regimes (The Kubiak era in particular) I have to believe that this can happen here as well
Nobody walks through the opposition like they aren't even there with a team full of Pro Bowlers at every position. The Giants won a couple of Super Bowls in the last decade with a retread coach and teams not all that much more talented or deep than the Texans are right now.
It's about getting the wins to make the postseason and getting hot at the right time.
Yes, we don't have the necessary players at most positions to be a Super Bowl team.
QB, the most important and it's clear we don't have a SB quality talent here. Savage may develop, but remember that he has little experience, even in college. He's going to take a lot of development, unless some miracle magic happens.
RB, questionable at this point. If Foster is who he used to be and can stay healthy, we have a starter. Our backups are injury prone and/or rookies. Foster is dealing with injuries that have been described as potentially career threatening. Andre Brown has broken his leg twice now, right? Blue is encouraging, but also injury prone and relatively unproven, even in college.
WR, our second best group but still lacking in depth. Past Johnson and Hopkins, we have a group that is lacking in talent, experience, and/or production.
OL, maybe our best group and we still don't know what is going to happen at RT. I'm encouraged by the rookie G, but still a rookie as a starter.
TE, nothing to write home about unless Fied plays really well.
DL, Watt plus rookies (Nix is promising) and almost zero depth.
ILB, Cushing plus who? UDFAs from last year and this year. Cushing also needs to prove he is back to what he was before. He has had two significant injuries recently.
OLB, Clowney plus disappointments and zero depth.
S, Keo plus Swearinger and cheap FAs.
CB, JJ, who looks to be declining rapidly, Kareem and terrible depth. Harris is our starting nickel and the guys behind him are damn near rookies.
The lack of depth on defense across the board is downright scary. We are also going to be leaning on players coming off serious injuries. Cushing is going to have to play every snap it looks like, and Foster is going to have to get rest via injury prone and/or inexperienced players.
I like what we did in this draft, but this isn't a Super Bowl team, or close to it. Not yet anyway, although I like our recent draft and direction. As I said, with great coaching and improved play across the board, we can make the playoffs. Even then, we aren't going to the Super Bowl. It takes depth and attrition to have a Super Bowl caliber team.
