This is exactly how I look at the trade and the Texans for taken advantage of. Of course y'all know what I think of Stroud.
I wanted to get a former Texans player and the producition of both Clowney and Mario fell short of my expectations for what weJJ is the metric for Anderson? How about TJ or Bosa?

should receive for the draft capital we paid for the 'Bama guy.
Sure of course I've seen that which to me is a rationalization, and a fairly clever one at that, of the very substantial considerationGuess you missed earlier discussion -
Let that little nugget sink in. It’s the packaged combination of franchise QB with franchise edge #2 & #3. With franchise QB (Stroud) off the board, a bigger fish on the line for a franchise QB halted that discussion. Opening window for teams interested in a non QB (Will Anderson) to move up. Texans probably graded Will #1 overall on their board, that would make sense to me & Texans had draft capital nobody else could beat. Texans kept real quiet about their interest in Stroud, which was key to be able to also add Will Anderson, taking competing teams out.

Forget about the trade.Ok fine you are off subject so I'm also gonna digress myself -
Unless Anderson has an incredible career, like I mean JJ-incredible we paid too much for him because IMO the only college player-NFL rookie non-QB who any team paid that much for I can think of who might have been worth that kind of Draft capital was ATL's draft of Julio Jones.
Care to comment ?
Forget about the trade.
If the Texans had taken Anderson with the #2 overall pick, would that have been too high?
For me there was always Young and Stroud and I don't think the Texans would have lost out either way.
I'm not sold on Richardson regardless of how fast he is.
Levis was less impressive to me.
Honestly, my favorite QB was Hooker out of Tennessee, but with the knee injury he wasn't going at the top.
As with all things, time will tell who was the better QB. Heck, they could all bust out just as easily.
I'm raising my grade from A+ to A++. I'm leaving some wiggle room in case Juice Scruggs kicks arse, and bumps the grade to A+++.Anyone ready to raise their grade of this years draft?
Well, that's no fun.Stroud is an example of why I try not to overreact to a draft pick no matter what I may think of the organization and their history of draft picks. And it's pretty much the same as most NFL GM's. They can all make you look really stupid or really smart, and there's no way for sure to know which one it's going to be until you start seeing the players in action.
I was just going to type the same thing.Well, that's no fun.![]()
I wouldn't give up on Hill. He's in the building, soaking up the coaching. I expect Hill to make the roster next year as a special teams demon while working into the nickel packages. This guy is a hitter with SWARM written all over him.Hill appears to be the only miss and he's got athletic ability, he just got hurt.
Which 2023 NFL Draft picks have excelled so far? Our early All-Rookie Team
Quarterback: C.J. Stroud, Texans
Honorable mention: Anthony Richardson, Bryce Young
It has been really enjoyable to watch Stroud carve up NFL defenses the past four weeks. My No. 4 player in the 2023 draft class, the Ohio State product was poised and structurally sound in college, and that has translated nicely to the pro game. His natural rhythm and pacing as a passer are why he has had such a hot start — and why he should be a productive starter for the next decade.
A close second, Richardson has helped the Colts be competitive from Day 1. The passing volatility he’s shown was to be expected for a player with such meager experience — he currently ranks 33rd in the NFL in adjusted completion percentage. Considering he is just scratching the surface, though, the explosive plays (with both his arm and his legs) have been special.
Young obviously falls third among the big three so far, given the number of rookie mistakes he’s made. But anyone who watches his tape can see that he will be just fine, especially once the Panthers give him more help. I can’t wait to see how this three-quarterback race ebbs and flows throughout the regular season. — Dane Brugler
Running back: Bijan Robinson, Falcons; De’Von Achane, Dolphins
Honorable mention: Jahmyr Gibbs, Zach Charbonnet, Roschon Johnson, Tank Bigsby, Tyjae Spears
Wide receiver: Puka Nacua, Rams; Tank Dell, Texans; Zay Flowers, Ravens
Honorable mention: Marvin Mims Jr., Jordan Addison, Josh Downs, Michael Wilson, Jayden Reed, Trey Palmer, Rashee Rice, Ronnie Bell, Dontayvion Wicks
Nacua has been the clear top rookie wideout … just like we all thought, right? He ranks No. 1 among all NFL players in targets (50, tied with Davante Adams) and receptions (39) and is second in receiving yards (501, behind only Justin Jefferson). Somehow, he has found the end zone only once, but that touchdown won an overtime game Sunday. Based on his college film, I gave Nacua a third-round draft grade, but the major variable was his durability. Despite being banged up, he has stayed on the field thus far for Los Angeles, and he landed in a perfect situation with Matthew Stafford.
A pair of “undersized” receivers, Flowers and Dell, deserve to be recognized, too. Flowers is second among rookies in receptions (24) and has been electric with the ball in his hands. He’s also yet to register a drop. Meanwhile, Dell’s 267 receiving yards rank second among first-year players, and his two touchdown grabs are tied for first among rookies. — Brugler
Tight end: Sam LaPorta, Lions
Honorable mention: Luke Musgrave, Dalton Kincaid, Will Mallory, Josh Whyle
Offensive line: Dawand Jones, Browns; Jarrett Patterson, Texans; Steve Avila, Rams; Matthew Bergeron, Falcons; Paris Johnson Jr., Cardinals
Honorable mention: O’Cyrus Torrence, Darnell Wright, Cody Mauch, Chandler Zavala, John Michael Schmitz Jr., Anton Harrison, Joe Tippmann, Peter Skoronski, Atonio Mafi
No surprise to see Torrence on this list — he was ready to go when he was drafted. Avila has had some technical issues, but he fights through every rep and looks like a keeper. After coming off the bench in Week 1, Jones has been near-perfect in pass pro for two of his three starts and has allowed just one QB hit in 154 reps. Bergeron has flashed, and he will continue to improve in Atlanta’s system.
The surprise of the group, perhaps, has been Patterson. He won the starting center job in camp, and, outside of a rough opener against Baltimore, hasn’t had any issues with his below-average length. His play IQ also continues to show up in positive ways. His last two outings (at Jacksonville, vs. Pittsburgh) were his best yet. — Baumgardner
Edge: Will Anderson Jr., Texans; Tuli Tuipulotu, Chargers; Byron Young, Rams
Honorable mention: Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Lukas Van Ness, Keion White, Colby Wooden, Myles Murphy, Zach Harrison
Anderson has made Houston’s aggressive trade to acquire him look like a worthy investment. Of all rookies with 100 or more snaps on the edge, he’s third in total pressures (13) and second in pressure rate (13 percent). His high energy and intensity show up in all facets of his game and have been a boon to this rebuilding Texans roster.
Just like in his final season at USC, Tuipulotu is producing with a relentless motor and hand-fighting skills. He’s second among all rookie edge rushers in total pressures (14) and just a shade behind Anderson in pressure rate.
Young is in the same cluster as Anderson and Tuipulotu, as he leads all rookies in total pressures (16) and pressure rate (15 percent). If he stays healthy, he can be another major steal by the Rams as their roster pivots. — Lee
Defensive line: Jalen Carter, Eagles; Bryan Bresee, Saints
Honorable mention: Gervon Dexter Sr., Kobie Turner, Karl Brooks, Keeanu Benton
Linebacker: Ivan Pace Jr., Vikings; Jack Campbell, Lions; Henry To’oTo’o, Texans
Honorable mention: Marte Mapu, Nick Herbig
There were 24 off-ball linebackers drafted in April. Somehow, Pace wasn’t one of them. I understand why he wasn’t a top-100 draft pick: He is undersized, and scouts had questions about his ability to hold up in coverage or even play special teams in the NFL. But Pace still was too good on his Cincinnati film to go undrafted. His instincts, play speed and overall urgency to affect the game have translated well.
Personally, I voted for To’oTo’o as the second linebacker — he leads all rookies in tackles (27). But I also understand the love for Campbell. He hasn’t been a full-time guy for the Lions just yet, but he has been productive when on the field. — Brugler
Cornerback: Christian Gonzalez, Patriots; Devon Witherspoon, Seahawks; Emmanuel Forbes, Commanders
Honorable mention: Jakorian Bennett, Deonte Banks, Kei’Trel Clark, DJ Turner, Tyrique Stevenson
Nickel/Safety: Brian Branch, Lions; Christian Izien, Bucs
Honorable mention: Jordan Howden
Kicker: Jake Moody, 49ers
Honorable mention: Brandon Aubrey, Anders Carlson, Chad Ryland, Blake Grupe
Punter: Ethan Evans, Rams
Honorable mention: Bryce Baringer, Brad Robbins, Lou Hedley, Ty Zentner
Special teams: Marvin Mims Jr., Broncos
Honorable mention: Charlie Jones, Xavier Gipson, Derius Davis
3 star level players, Stroud/WA/Dell
2 OL at positions that were terrible last yr and are playing well. (Patterson/Scruggs)
A starter/great backup level LB. (To'oto'o)
A physically gifted edge that's already a rotational piece. (Horton)
A developmental big slot (Hutchinson)
Hill appears to be the only miss and he's got athletic ability, he just got hurt.
I dont expet every draft to be this good because rarely does a team have the 2nd/3rd picks in the draft. But if they (Ryans/Caserio) can continue to hit on this level of players in the draft, I expect the Texans to be a top 5 NFL team in the next couple of yrs.
I’d love to draft another corner or two. Extend Nelson and Thomas, but have some young guys to develop. Until Stingley can stay on the field longer, CB will need to be addressed. Our corner back situation after this season concerns me.
You know if CJ continues to ball, and with Ryan’s as coach. Free agents are actually going to want to come to Houston. Next offseason may get real interesting

I am not against signing veteran free agents however, I prefer now going with youngsters in draft and undrafted free agency. Cleveland pretty much needs to lose out for us to have any shot at mhjI still want Harrison with the browns pick!
Why?Our corner back situation after this season concerns me.
I'm not interested in Griffin unless he cranks it up. He's had some moments but...Why?
If they bring Nelson and Griffin back, Thomas and Arnold look pretty solid and Stingley is a big wildcard. I wouldn't draft a QB before the 4th rd. Try to bring back Nelson and Griffin. Heck, even Arnold has looked pretty good. If I shopped in FA it would be for a guy in Griffins situation last off-season and try to add a developmental guy later in the draft. A Reader type DT and a top shelf LB is more of a need than CB next off-season. IMHO

Nelson is interesting but turns 31 in January. Not over the hill, but definitely on the downside. His connection with Demeco got him here and may keep him but probably for more than I want to pay. He is definitely a solid vet in the backfield and my understanding in the clubhouse which has value. I see him as wanting to get every $ on his last contract. I am just on a go younger kick for now. Tavierre will be going into his seventh season and has really never done much.
Agreed we need some help long term at CB as Nelson is old and Stingley cannot be trusted to stay on the field. But a couple of thingsI'm not interested in Griffin unless he cranks it up. He's had some moments but...

I’ll draft Jerry Rice son then lolCleveland pretty much needs to lose out for us to have any shot at mhj
Indeed. They just upgraded it.Nelson was signed when Lovie was here, not Demeco. Demeco didn’t get him here.

Breaking down the Texans' new deal with CB Steven Nelson
The Houston Texans reworked the last year of cornerback Steven Nelson’s contract.texanswire.usatoday.com
According to Aaron Wilson from KPRC-TV, the Texans upgraded the contract for Nelson and will pay the nine-year veteran a maximum value of $6.5 million.
I didn’t know he played. I just looked him up and found some highlights.I’ll draft Jerry Rice son then lol
Then he's gone for sureNelson was signed when Lovie was here, not Demeco. Demeco didn’t get him here.
Then he's gone for sure
I agree you can probably get another year or two out of Nelson but he is not going to want a average contract for those two years. I am very familiar with Tavierre and rooted for him his first season but he is just not done as expected.Agreed we need some help long term at CB as Nelson is old and Stingley cannot be trusted to stay on the field. But a couple of things
1. Nelson has been here a couple of years he's not a DeMeco guy and is currently balling out. The end is coming but there's no reason to think you won't get another year or two from him.
2. From what I've heard and read Thomas has been an above average player here in Houston for a few years, just because he's not a household name for us doesn't mean he isn't doing good things. He's a slot corner no doubt but those guys are just as important in today's NFL as outside corners.
I watched him play this past weekend. He’s solid.I didn’t know he played. I just looked him up and found some highlights.
I’ll take him if we can’t get MHJ.
Before the injury he was looking darn good.I agree you can probably get another year or two out of Nelson but he is not going to want a average contract for those two years. I am very familiar with Tavierre and rooted for him his first season but he is just not done as expected.
I can’t speak to what you expected for Thomas but I know Nate Tice from the Athletic (a guy who knows ball no doubt) is very complimentary of him and PFF has graded him out very well over the course of his time here. Personally I don’t watch film of his but I have never noticed him to be a problem which is usually a great sign from a corner. Also DeMeco Ryans keeping him and letting King go is a very positive indicator of how this staff feels about him.I agree you can probably get another year or two out of Nelson but he is not going to want a average contract for those two years. I don't think that will matter to Coach Ryans, if Nelson gets the job done.Nelson was signed when Lovie was here, not Demeco. Demeco didn’t get him here.

I wouldn’t say for sure. He is chasing his last contract and wants to get paid, but I wouldn’t count out Demeco. Playing for a coach like that may entice him to stay. Even if he doesn’t like Caserio’s sweater vests.
Being a Mulugheta client anything could happen.
agree but I do not anticipate Cards drafting QB in round one due to Kyler Murray's contract. He has to play if he can get on field. Fans are furious now; Murray sitting on bench will not be good. Plus, how will he react if AZ drafts a QB round 1? We have seen starters not handle that well before. There good receivers at the spot Texans former pick will be. I agree Cards may select a WR to help Murray. The Texans biggest job in regards to the 2024 NFL Draft.....keep winning and space that extra Arizona pick (Texans) as far away from their own RD1 pick as possible. This probably forces the Cardinals to go QB with their first pick. It would be interesting if the Cardinals thought MHJ would be the missing piece for Kyler Murray.

My understanding after 4 games Az picks are 1.10 and 1.19. I have them selecting CB Kalen King and WR Keon Coleman.
Yep but the gamble as I see it is AZ has to risk it on Murray. Lower round QB may get past his wrath but nothing in round 1.Cards fans will be furious if Murray starts and doesn't do better than Dobbs is doing now
