2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

What concerning issues does Will Anderson have?
I agree with this thought
"What is his dominant trait other than instincts? Size? No. Speed? No. Strength/power? No. He's not special athletically, so are these sack numbers inflated? Then, you ask yourself could he be an anomaly guy like a Shaq Barrett? You aren't sure how he's getting all those sacks, but you can't argue with the production."

There seems to be too many concerning issues with the QB's and the two top defense players so again I say take Bijan Robinson. He checks all the blocks and has no injury issues. What does it matter is BR is taken at 2 by us if he will give us a solid player for at least the next 5 yrs.
Robinson is an incredible player. But Bijan doesn't have the same scrutiny on him, as the other players. What if the media were hyper focusing on him? Would there be something to chew on? Right now, dismissing Robinson because he's a RB is enough.

So what's the issue? He's a hard worker that gets a lot of sacks? He's as big as Joey Bosa and bigger than Von Miller coming out

Daniel Jeremiah is mocking Stroud and Anderson back to back! That’s a man who does have a lot of sources in the league.

Or a trade

You need a dance partner. The Cards can't move their pick, seems Texans can't either. The can't-miss QB is off the board, and the only "generational talent" is Jalen Carter, who kind of botched his position for himself. Bijan is probably the best pure player in the draft, but no one is taking an RB that high in the modern NFL. Will Anderson is a good pass rusher, but not a freak of nature. Colts can stand pat and get a free shot at two of the top four QBs, three if the Texans go defense.

When I watched he was getting sacks by clean up due to QB's being pressured . JB and VM had set techniques so I think when Anderson is faced with NFL tackles his production will suffer. Hopefully he can be coached into a technique with his ability to get the QB or stop the run. I won't be disappointed if we get him but I see BR as a very productive player that will created a defenses nightmare.

Yeah I do not want any quarterback sacks due to clean up. If you can't knock down the quarterback and get A sack then what good are you?

I like BR also but I wouldn't take him @1.2... 1.12 maybe

the point I was making is the NFL OL may be an issue for him however he and Tyree are going to be very good players. I just see where RB can bring more production to our game

Would be nice to have both them guys but what would it cost to move up 9 spots near the top of the draft? I imagine it would be #12, #33 and a protected first next year at least.
Is an edge worth that much?

Personally, I would rather go QB, WR.

Trade both 1st if needed for the edge next year, or just take the edge next year if you are in position.

Anderson and Wilson do not look like they have much Myles Garrett or Nick Bosa in them.

Wilson's foot issues apparently failed a ton of teams physicals...

Anderson's tape doesn't look like a dominant pass rusher.

The fact you think Jalen Carter is generational talent is amusing. You do not know which teams have offered to dance with Nick. No team is going to announce early a trade for 1.3 until it is known what Nick is doing at 2. You don't know when Bijan will be drafted. We don't need a freak just someone who can routinely disrupt opposing QB and get some T.O.s and WA did that better than anyone combining last two years.

You are right about Colts staying pat IF they want one of the bottom two of best four and if their hopes comes true that two other teams don't trade past them.

I think there's a 100% chance we make a trade somewhere in the 1st round.

That too but if they really want an edge/pass rusher, why not just take Nolan Smith, Lukas Van Ness or Myles Murphy at #12? Surely there is not that much of a gap in talent to justify all the expense in moving up? Or trade back and take Calijah Kancey and create a pick?

As long as Green isn't a huge bust, the best unit on the Texans is the offensive line. Beast of a TE, solid RB. All of that is built for a rookie QB to step in and flourish.
This is why I advocate for a top Center at #33.
John Michael Schmitz or Steve Avila would complete the Oline rebuild.
Luke Wypler would also be an upgrade and could be had around the #50 area.
Of course they may take several games to gel, but the potential is more than just merely intriguing.

I don't know the players at the center position very well this year ,but it's a huge need in my eyes. Nothing rattles a young qb like pressure up the middle.

We need to lock that position down early.

The agent. 90% of the Stroud animosity is agent driven. I'm pretty sure Stroud was already with Mulugheta prior to the Watson nightmare. But, let's blame the kid.

Now I know how I'm drowning my draft night sorrows.
From a source from the higher ups of the Texans FO, I was just informed that the Texans are split over Stroud....................not so much regarding Mulugheta, but strongly because of how they view his play under pressure. They feel that they can handle dealing with Mulugheta in that they would be ultra cautious and not ever repeat such mistakes as "no trade clause" or stupid guaranteed money.

That said, regarding the Stroud/Mulugheta relationship, college players were never allowed to have NFL agents until they declared for the Draft (Stroud declared Jan 2023). Effective July 1, 2021, the NIL allowed a player to hire an agent. Both of those dates postdate the Watson nightmare (the chain of lawsuits beginning in March of 2021).

Why is he my last sexual predator QB? 6 degrees of separation from Watson? Is that the criteria for selecting a QB?

I would rank Hooker on par with the QBs from last year's draft. I actually saw a game between Liberty and Virginia Tech, where Malik Willis and Hooker put on a duel. Both were quite the runners. I think Tech won the game in OT? They were both exciting college players, but I didn't come away with thinking I'm watching future NFL starting QBs.

When you think of Stroud's poor performance in 2022, it's the Michigan game. Especially the 2nd half. Did Harbough & Michigan bring a bunch of exotic blitzes? No. They stayed back in a cover 2 shell. Zone is the best way to beat a young QB. That's how the Texans beat Lawrence in his debut. How the Colts beat Watson and the Texans in 2018 WC game. Bryce Young had all kinds of trouble with the zone Brian Kelly and LSU put up. Pressure gives a young QB and easy option. Working against a zone requires patience and discipline. That's the best way to evaluate a QB prospect.
Yes, especially when your idol is a sexual predator. Draft Stroud at your own peril.

You know how I feel about this yrs QB class.
