I believe you hire qualified people and let them do their jobs.

Cal didn't let Caserio do the job he was hired to do.

Why? Because Cal isn't qualified to do his job, neither is Hannah for that matter.

If you draft a player #2 and he's avg,it doesn't matter the position he plays. That's a wasted pick. Carter was supposed to be the best player on last years Georgia team and he's been single blocked by guys who's not even graded out high. You dislike Stroud because of agents choice and Young because of his size, but both outplayed Carter this year by a long shot.

I'm not an expert, not a player evaluator, so I usually defer to those who get paid to do that, but as someone who's married to an Ohio State alum, I've seen every OSU game in the last 15 years or so. In that time I don't think there was one QB that came out of OSU that did anything in the NFL. That's my main concern with Stroud. OSU teams usually overmatch their opponents at every position, and the QB isn't asked to do that much. Just my unqualified feeling/opinion.

Yup. Drafting Carter at 2 would be monumentally stupid for multiple reasons.

There’s rumors that we’re looking to trade up with the Bears which will cost us even more assets. IMO this would be historically dumb.

The only reason why there are discussion about what these qbs are not is because posters get amnesia. Go look at the board after last year and everubody and their mama wanted Young or Stroud. I can even admit, I looked at Stroud and his ability more than I did last year. What everyone saw vs Georgia is what he's capable of duplicating. I always thought he should use his legs more vs getting pocket lock. He's accurate with a quick release. Young, despite his size has all the tools also. I remember the argument when Chris Simms was at UT and he had more balls batted down at the los than Applewhite or McCoy, can't remember which one was there battling him. No matter how tall your qb is, he doesn't throw over linemen. You throw through lanes, that's all. I have confidence in both players to be franchise caliber qbs.

Did you see Stroud against Georgia? They have a pro level defense and Stroud shredded them. So I’m not in agreement with you.

You can make that argument about every qb out of every d-1 school. All those qbs who put up numbers at TT, none have been Mahomes. All those guys from from Cal or under Tedford, none have been Rodgers. I could go on and on and that's why you have to evaluate every prospect
 
My man Demeco running away with this poll, and for good reason. He is easily the best candidate this cycle, and as far as I know, the only guy that every team with an opening asked to interview.

Let’s get him in here Tue or asap, and then don’t let him leave. Let’s do this! Demeco will be the best HC this team has had, surpassing Kubiak. He is the man with the plan, with the right jam, not a flim flam man. If he comes here, I am pumped, Let’s go!

People are individuals. They don’t fit into your neat boxes. You eval the guy on his merit not what some other dude did or did not do. Stroud has the tools to be an excellent QB at the next level. That said, I have a preference for Young. But I would be excited about Stroud if he is the pick.

If I’m caserio im targeting anyone from #4 to #9. They all need a QB. There isn’t much difference in who you can get in that range. Seattle presents the best opportunity IMO as they have two first round picks. #5 and #20. Id do #2 for #5 and #20 all day. Seattle would be a perfect landing spot for young. Or they may want to trade up if someone trades up and takes young This would give them first shot at the best Defensive player.

How many of those 31 points were on his defense? Plus, losing your 3rd and 4th QB's was DeMeco's fault?

I get all that and basically agree with you. I'm not usually one to go with the gut feel, so as someone who's not an evaluator, I defer to those who know what they're doing. My feelings/opinions are not set in stone, and as I mentioned are not qualified. If they pick Stroud (or Young), I will be happy and will root for either one of them.

I will take my chances with Carter.

He made many more plays than you give him credit for. What I really want is a trade down to get more picks, including a 2024 1st.

What make your eval that Stroud will be an excellent QB at the next level any more correct than somebody that says Stroud will end up like all of the other OSU QB's? I think he will be top 10-15 at best, but certainly not a Mahomes/Burrow/Allen/Brady/Rodegers/Hurts level. I see Stroud more on the level of Carr/Goff/Dak and that ain't good enough.

if you don’t like him, don’t like him on his own merits, not the neat little boxes you try to put people in.

on the plus side, he isn’t Clemson trash and his parents aren’t Nigerian doctors, and he isn’t a midget…so he should be right up your alley.

Like I said, I dont like him because I think his skill level is that of Goff/Carr/Dak.

I haven’t seen a single person with any clout say Stroud will end up like all of the other OSU QB's. Everyone I’ve seen says he’s different.

Where we differ is I don't believe Gannon was ever Caserio's choice. He was the last guy left on a BS list. But you & I will never agree on that.

To Cal's credit no one else hired him either. Rumors already floating that Gannon will probably return to Philly for 2023.

Doesn't mean much. Who knows what will really happen.

You're stuck on, "McNairs always hires the HC."

Don't see that nobody hired the guy you want to believe was Nick's choice. & Rumors is he won't be hired this round if Houston doesn't hire him... that doesn't raise a red flag for you?

Nope doesn't bother me at all. Gannon's defense had 75 sacks this yr. Give me some of that. Actually Gannon wasn't my 1st choice, I an offense type coach. Kalfka was my guy. Although I do think Ryans will do a good job. I didn't like the hiring process.

I'm not going to say Gannon had nothing to do with those 75 sacks, but it appears everyone who has interviewed him so far thinks he's peeked.

That's the only option if we want this to be a championship club. Doesn't matter who is available.

If your drafter drafts well, then it doesn't matter who he doesn't take at #2.

The question is can he turn that #2 into multiple 1st round picks & then some. How far did he drop & what did he get.

It takes two to tango, I get that. But if he can't parlay that pick when this team is in a need of a parlay... we got the wrong guy.

Who was a successful Michigan QB before Brady? (these questions aren't aimed at you, mussop, merely piggybacking your point..)

Who was a successful Cal QB before Rodgers?

Who was a successful Texas Tech QB before Mahomes?

How many championship caliber QBs have USC or North Carolina produced.. as long as people are looking toward 2024 for Williams or Maye..

In other words, let a player's eval stand on it's own merits if you want to make an intellectually honest argument. But we know that's not the route for some people to take.
