We know this wont happen. People dont like to be wrong, certainly not a fanbase that is dancing in the streets over the Ryans hire.

I'm all for giving Demeco time. I just hope we get to his 2nd GM stage sooner rather than later

Brees only became a HOF"er after working with Payton.

Absolutely not. Brees was only in San Diego a couple years and his last year was already looking great.
Winston regressed in New Orleans, but a lot of that had to do with having no receives after Michael Thomas decided to have multiple year injuries.
Brees and Payton worked well together, but no way did Payton make Brees what he was.

The only place he has been a HC is New Orleans. Saban had Brees in the house and the contract was signed until Brees failed his physical and doctors would not sign off on him. Huizenga wouldn't override the docs and Saban knew right then he would be coaching Alabama the next year. How many Super Bowls would Saban have won with Drew Brees as his QB?

It just depends on how Brees would've developed under Saban. Payton did a great job of developing Brees.

Brees was an above avg QB before Payton, with Payton he became a HOF'er. Y'all make it seem like Payton didn't have anything to do with Brees development.

Kinda like everything good that Derrick did here was in spite of BOB crowd. Whether y'all want to admit it or not BOB did a great job of developing Derrick and he's done a great job of developing Young too. If he hasn't done a great job, then why do most want Young to be the pick at 1-2? I enjoy watching the media try to explain how bad of a coach BOB is and then in the same breath orgasm over the thought of drafting Young.

It doesn't have to be a guardrail to guardrail situation. Brees and Payton are both good at what they do, worked well together, and were successful.

I believe Brees had a better chance to be successful without Payton, than Payton did without Brees. Its hard for a coach to be successful without talent on the team. Brees brought a lot of talent to his team in a single person. He made his no-name receives look good and distributed the ball to a lot of guys each game, not relying on 1 or 2 receivers.

Agreed, A coach cant succeed without a QB. But Payton took Brees to HOF very good level to HOF level. They worked well together.

Brees had some very good WR's in his time with the Saints. Thomas/Colston/Our very own Cooks to name a few.

I remember a report where a reporter was saying the Broncos were expecting Russ to call his own plays like Peyton. They didn’t really have a scheme or philosophy on offense.

They learned quick Russ wasn’t that guy.

Payton may be exactly what they need.

But, he took a lot of hits in McVay's offense in LA. By year 4, Goff was checking down more. His sack % went down, but so did his yards per attempt. In the wildcard game vs Seattle, Goff replaced the backup and the Rams won. Goff started and played the entire game in the divisional round loss in Green Bay.

But by then, McVay and Goff's relationship had been fractured. The Rams swapped with the Lions, sending Matt Stafford to LA. Stafford had the reputation for standing in the pocket to get the ball downfield regardless of the punishment.

Fast forward to 2022, and Goff's sack % is cut nearly in half from the year before. And Goff's yards/completion, TDs, and QB rating goes up. And does the Lions victory total. It's not a mystery. Protect your QB and you have a chance to win games in the NFL.

If anyone can maximize Wilson's potential, it will be Sean Payton. I don't think he's married to a system as much as maximizing a QBs strengths. He will tailor his offense to maximize Wilson's strengths. The AFC West might want to watch out for the Broncos.

He can't 'dump' him until 2026 at the earliest based on his contract.

And find someone else - with Russ still on the roster - where/how exactly? ..with a handcuffed salary cap and no real draft capital for at least two years.

So their salary cap is tied up until at least 2024..
No real draft capital until 2025..
And stuck with an albatross of a QB1 contract until at least 2026..

So ya, assuming he's getting the bag he's been rumored to get from Denver then sure, perhaps Payton doesn't really GAF..
 
Other than that one interview with Payton, Texans chatter was fairly quite on him.
I reckon they had some inside knowledge on DeMeco wanting to come here and were quietly confident.

I don't believe there is any fixing that mess, Payton is no miracle worker and with all that's against them, that's what it'll take to keep them competitive.

It is a very public, expensive arranged marriage that is all about both parties being married for money and fame. Past middle-aged dude (coach) who has already walked away when the going was rough, trying to prove he has still got it with a witch QB who is nowhere as attractive as before but is saying all the right things after a public divorce followed by a terrible short-term relationship. This spit is soap-opera gold. Anything short of a Super Bowl for these two is going to be a massive flameout. And can't wait :evil::tv::popcorn:

I don't think his standards are all that high. He had Taysum Hill taking snaps in real games

Yes, that is Jamila. The person I think who is responsible for DeMeco becoming the Texans head coach.

I imagine the conversation went something like this.

Jamila: I want to go home. It sure would be nice if we could move back to Houston and raise our family there. we are already building a new home there.

DeMeco: There might be better opportunities elsewhere.

Jamila: The opportunities are what you make them. There are 32 teams, you can win in every one of them.

DeMeco: I think I can.

Jamila: So why does it matter where you go? You are in the driver's seat. Tell the Texans everything you must have to make this happen. As the face of the franchise, tell them you must have full control over all football operations if they want to make this thing work. And that you want a six-year contract to send the message that it is a new day in Houston Texas.
