Nick Caserio - New GM

The fact that Caserio was able to trade Watson and Green makes him a ring of honor candidate if we win the Superbowl with the picks he acquired.

How the heck did he pull that Green trade off? It wasn’t with a team like the Browns…It was with Howie Roseman. A Super Bowl winning GM.
To be fair, Green sustained unlucky injuries was drafted into one scheme, then one he didn’t align with now another on horizon. That and coaching and overall culture of the offensive line room, made it too difficult for him to overcome.

Philly picked up Mekhi Becton off the Jets trash heap as a former first round pick, #11 overall on the cheap, sound familiar? All he did was fit right in on Philadelphia OL, coached by the best OL coach in NFL, Jeff Stoutland. So would say the room, teammates, culture & coaching all could just as well help Keynon Green too.

Wishing him the best

I love having trust in a GM and HC making the right call. The first round trade down and stockpiling of picks doesn’t give us fans instant gratification. But as a product of the work they’ve done in this era of the team, they have a lot of good players already on the roster and tough decisions will need to be made when their contracts come due.

Nick has stockpiled top 100 picks next two drafts to position the team to have replacements ready while also having the ability to continue improving the roster.

Listening to the post draft night 1 presser and he’s so comfortable because he knows his process is gonna work more often than not. No need to justify his moves to anyone. Like CJ said, he’s “earned trust”.

I predict Nick is going to mix things up today. Now that they have reinforcements at WR I could see Metchie in particular as a WR they might package in a player/pick swap. Metchie’s roster spot is more in flux because he doesn’t provide ST value but Hutchinson does play ST.

I could see them trading Metchie and a 6th for a 5th or for another player and a 7th (similar to the Kenyon/CJGJ trade).

Nick has mentioned plenty of times how difficult it will be to make this team. I don’t see them picking 5 players today. I’d set the O/U at 3.5

I bet Caserio trades back into the 4th using 2026 picks for a RB.

I wouldn't mind Pierce & a 7th for a high 4th to go get Skattebo.
There is a SWARM player!
I have had my eye on him for a while - along with several others!
But he'll do. Him or Devin Neal.
It will be great for this offense to have another good back to take over when Mixon is having a breather.

If Caserio seeks a RB….I hope he selects Donovan Edwards (Michigan). Why he’s that far down on prospect list is surprising. Guy pretty much does everything a RB needs to do for success in the NFL.

I think the same about Skattebo, but his NFL future may be as a terrific FB who could do some damage. His speed will more than likely be exposed in the NFL. Picture his as a FB- Tom Rathman type with a few more pounds added.

Wow! Someone gave the Texans an A+?!?!?
Wonders will never cease.

Through a cloud of smoke, I have suddenly envisioned Tricky Nick's strategy. All draft picks are put on thumb tacks in his seat, so he has to get rid of them somehow.

I think of all the places Nick Caserio interviews that Payne and Pendergast get the most information out of him. They keep it relatively light hearted and ask legitimate questions without coming off as a “cross examination” like you’d see in the traditional press conference setting where he’s more stand-offish. The long-form nature of the interview helps as well. Similar to the Pat Mcafee interviews, but as local Texans media they ask more relevant questions.

The nuggets I found interesting from this interview:

When asked who has transformed their body most this offseason, Pendergast was trying to get an update on Blake Fisher:

Caserio mentioned Ladarius Henderson and Kamari Lassiter as two guys who have made a noticeable physical transformation from S&C/nutrition this offseason. Then of course the standard, “Everybody is working hard” answer.

When asked which UDFAs we should watch in upcoming minicamp:

Nick mentioned DT Junior Tafuna and WR Daniel Jackson. Then of course the standard, “Get them all in the building and see what they can do.”

Man you guys dont like Caserio very much.
I actually like Nick. I think he's the best GM we've ever had (low bar) and his personality makes me laugh. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes unintentionally. I also think that having a HC like Demeco helps him because he has a defined type of player, mentality, physical attributes and skill set for his defense. Let's hope Nick Caley can do the same thing on offense.

I was on the Nick train until he let the media bully him off the headset on gameday. I think he should put them back on... who cares what the media says?

Totally agree. I think this was a non-story that the national media elevated into a once-in-a-lifetime scandal.

If I was the GM or in case of player personnel, I would want to know what the coaches were calling and what the players were supposed to do. This would greatly help my evaluation of the team and see if the coaches are actually doing their jobs.

Media: "BUT THE OTHER TEAMS DON'T DO IT!11!!!!!11!" Who cares? There are 31 teams that can't run the Brotherly Shove, yet, one team does it very effectively. Should the Eagles stop running that play? Makes no sense.

I thought Lovie kicked him off the headset?

100% Correct. Media...sure ok.

And he doesn't need to be on the headset, suggesting plays or making comments. He's the GM not a coach. If he wants to coach, take off the vest and get your ass on the field. Otherwise, put a pipe in your piehole on game days. His job is to assess after the fact, not suggest during. IMHO.

Nick has stated his role with the headset was more a “game management” role. When to challenge, when to call timeout, thoughts on punting vs going for it, kicking FG vs going for it. Every team has these guys assisting on game day. It’s what keeps your team from losing games due to boneheaded game management decisions. Nick was that guy, now i’m assuming they have somebody else doing the same thing.

EX of why every team needs someone like this: The Nathaniel Hackett Broncos tenure.

If Caserio can help win games by doing down, distance replays, timeout usage by being on the headset then by all means he should be on the headset. This is about winning games, not coaches feelings

Many have complained about PFF evaluations not being accurate as they do not know what the play entails, who is blocking who etc. How can the general manager evaluate the coaching staff, if he doesn't have access to what they are saying? I do not think he should be calling the place but offering advice is for as timeouts or clock management Etc, I am okay with that.

under former OC Slowik I wish Nick had been listening.

Great example.

Another good example is when you have David Culley as HC. Didn’t he punt on a 3rd down or decline a penalty to make 4th and long?

And we shouldn’t forget it was HOF coach Bill Belicheck who first gave Caserio a headset.

Maybe Nick was listening. Not saying he told Demeco what to do.

But if you have your GM listening to the game then when you have a HC like Demeco say I am firing my OC Slowik then a GM like Caserio can be behind it. Instead of thinking about the money and any ancillary costs he knows from listening to the games where mistakes were made.

The game continues to evolve.

Caserio was on the headset when that happened.

Caserio wasn't the GM, then. And his job was to relay in defensive substitutions to OC Josh McDaniels.

The Texans employ 25 assistant coaches. I think they have enough on the headsets to cover any contingency that could arise. No need for a 26th guy. I'm not sure how this even became a topic.

Belicheck found Caserio important enough to have on a headset.

I am not advocating for Caserio to make calls on the headset but I see no harm in listening.

This became a topic because it’s the offseason. It’s better than discussing Watson.
