2025 Free Agency-

It was infuriating watching he-who-shall-not-be-named either commit a stupid penalty and get caught or commit a stupid penalty and either not get caught or was given mercy by the refs. I had difficulty paying attention to the other players pre-snap because my eyes were glued on 78.

I am not an expert on Tomlinson. Just a guy I didn't follow at all, so my take is probably weak...but from what I can ascertain, he's very durable and considered an average starter at LG. I think he may have made the pro-bowl once.

As of today, I'd consider him to have the inside track to LG this year. It will depend on what happens the rest of FA and the draft of course, but he's the leading candidate imho.

I also think it's ridiculous to take one practice rep and make an entire eval on a guy from that. Caley, Cole, and Nick watched plenty of film before we signed him. I'll trust their eval until proven otherwise.

Hey man, i dont think anyone would base an entire eval on one play. But i will say good players usually dont have plays where they get completely demolished like that.

Im sure caley, cole. Demeco and nick watched a lot of film on the bums we had last year too. I dont really put my full trust in their evals (we're all human) but im hopeful.

That's fair. But the best o-lines are like the Clydesdale horses leading a chariot. All the horses aren't the best individually, but they work together in harmony, and the lead horse gets the others to fall into place and pull as hard as he does. Likewise, if you look around the NFL, some of the best lines are made up of semi-anonymous dudes like Tomlinson.

He may not be all that at the end of the day. But I judge them on the whole once the season commences. And I do expect some growing pains. There will be at least 3 new starters...slight chance it's 4 new starters. I'll give them a handful of games to start getting their **** together, but the final report card will take some time.

And I expect more movement in 2026 as well...then we'll have the line Caley envisions. Until then, it's a work in progress. Hopefully, it's at least competent and better with stunts and blitzes, etc. Clean that up, and it's already leagues better even if the actual talent is less. Give me some junkyard dogs that eat nails for breakfast. I'm hoping we add a piece or two in this draft as well as the next.

Come on Nick! That was my guy, and 9 is a doable figure. Lord I hope there is some other moves inbound. They need at least one more solid vet.

Becton and Schreff are next on my list at G. Will Hernandez is another decent option. At center, not much out there. Josh Myers or Austin Corbett are decent options.

Elijah Moore is 25 and would be a steal
This guy and Kirk were the 2 guys I hoped Caserio would sign. Well, them and or Demarcus Robinson. Lets just say, the offense would look much different thanit's going to look if I was the GM. (Example, would you give up Watson/Berrios/Autry for Zietler/Demarcus Robinson?

Give me Zietler/Robinson and Kirk any day. You could even add Moore and be 4 deep.

Zirtler gone. Not sure about Robinson . I think at wr and rb they need speed and shiftiness
I would cut Autry and I like Autry. His 9m could go a long ways to repair the oline and wr. I mean at this point in FA, I think the big money, multi year deals are gone
I can see a world with the Jags rg for 2 yrs and a guard in the 2nd rd. I see ex patriot Trent Brown on roster for depth behind Fisher. If Jenkins wasn't injury prone, he would be my lg

I'm not as down on Autry as some. When he played he affected the game, and I think if it weren't for the 6-game suspension he would have shown up more impressively in the sack number. He did have 17 pressures (in a shortened season), and I think having that 3-tech/DE tweener pays off in DeMeco's defense. I still feel like WA - Autry - Edwards Jr. - Hunter is a nasty front-4 when it's a must-pass situation. The defense also rated 4th in sacks in 2024 and I'm almost hesitant to mess with it.

I think the Texans are trying to trade Autry. His $8.5 million isn't too much for a team to take on. It may be during or after the draft, though.
I was thinking the team would move one of its many DL for a pick during training camp, but a draft day move also makes sense.

Autry will fit in well if no suspension and fully healthy this season. Just like he did in the Chargers playoff game.

But if there’s a position group on this roster that this team is most likely to find production from its the DL. And if they can strengthen a less stable position group (like the OL) by trading a luxury (Autry) then it is what’s best for the team.

Even if I want to see six different DL end the season with 10+ sacks :(

If a team like the Packers wanted to trade Wicks for Autry, I could get on board. I'm still holding out hope Caserio will sign Melton or Moore.

Guys, looks like Nick the chef left the kitchen and is out eating tofu in the parking lot while using his sweater vest as his bib.

Come on Nick...get back inside the kitchen and whip up an offensive lineman that is starter worthy or at least good competition.

Right now this line is thinner than Calista Flockheart on a crash diet.

‘Kin’ell Porky he did what you asked!

8.5m for him, 7m for Rankins. How much have they spent on iol? James Daniels signed for 8m per, Zeitler 1yr 9m. There go your 2 guards for the Rankins and Autry price

Says who? Has he said that?

In any event, so far the offensive line situation has gone from dire to dumpster fire. Yes....I know that they are not done. I'm only talking about this moment in time. I'm waiting for it to play out like everyone else. But we can only comment on what has been done. Anything else is speculation. So...based on what's been done with the line, the only good is getting rid of dead weight and non-swarm guys. That part is good. But there has to be a yin to the yang. So, far the yin is nada. Don't tell me you are buying the two moves made to bring guys in. That's not going to fly. You've got one issue that had to be fixed...so far....color me 100% non-impressed.

Rapoport has made mention of a)him having family in the area and b)working with Calahan as reason's he signed with Tennessee...good enough?

Nick just restructured Christian Kirk's contract freeing up an additional $13 MM in cap space.

Nick did not make that move just to leave that money in the bank. Nick has something on the stove in the kitchen., and it is almost done.

Dalton Risner, Hernadez or Becton at OG maybe?

No to Becton, fully believe he as a product of coaching, scheme and teammates.

Not really interested in any of what's left in FA for the Oline. A trade on the other hand...

Also think the money is to start extending some of the rookie contracts.

I kinda of agree with you on Becton. But I would be very good with Risner, and OK with Hernadez

As far as the money to extend rookie contracts, Nick will not be doing that until after the draft (training camp is when they are usually done), so he would not have churned out some cap space until that time when he knew how much he needed.

No, this almost has to be for something that is happening with free agency.

Folks, I think it's blatantly obvious that NC is adding depth to the whole team rather than trying to shore up one or two positions with a big name player. As for the offensive line, with the three players traded/cut it appears to me that our starting o'line isn't in as bad of shape as some would have us think. Last year when Mason was out for two games, they put Juice in at RG & it looked like CJ was not under as much pressure as he had been when Mason was in there. He was still under pressure, but not as much as he had previously been. Then, Mason comes back & the pressure ramped right back up. With the new coaching additions & the veteran FA's, I'm hopeful that they can get more out of the young guys. Right now, I see the starting lineup being:

LT: Howard?
LG: ???
C: Patterson
RG: Juice
RT: Fisher

I think the right side is set for now. It's the left side I'm not sure about. Howard can play either LT or LG & that's where I believe there could be a possible smoke screen being thrown up. Originally, I thought that Fisher was going to play LT, but it makes sense that Howard was being readied to move to LT by playing the RG position for the last couple of years.

But here's the smoke screen. Everyone knows the Texans are most likely going to take an offensive lineman with their first pick, but with the extra picks from the Tunsil trade, the Texans are in a great position to trade up in the first round to grab either Kelvin Banks Jr (LT/LG) or Tyler Booker (LG). Booker would be a plug & play LG on his first day & Banks could play LG until he is ready to take over the LT position. Both players are the best available at their positions & both are hard nosed football players that would instantly bring in a strong work ethic. Of course, all of this is contingent upon the coaching staff (not the members of this board) believing that Howard can hold down the LG or LT position. They haven't cut or traded him, so they must still believe in him. We'll know for sure if they restructure his contract.

Lance Zierlein's 2nd mock has us trading up to pick #16 with Arizona & selecting Banks. I did a trade up to pick #15 with Atlanta & it only cost us our first (#25), one of our thirds this year & one of our seconds next year. By adding just one of these two players in the draft, our starting O'line would be:

LT: Howard/Banks
LG: Howard/Booker
C: Patterson
RG: Juice
RT: Fisher

With our second round pick, we could take the best available WR & add additional team depth with the rest of the picks.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about a trade up, but being able to get out from under Howard's contract in a year would be worth it

What does that say about your coaching? If a good coach can get it out of him, and you feel like he's a product of good coaching, then the oline is doomed anyway
