2025 Free Agency-

I don't think they were ever in on Becton.
I’d also be incredibly sceptical of Becton being any good for us. He got surrounded by top tier talent and was good in the run game but still pretty woeful in the pass game and played in an incredibly run heavy offense.

I think whoever ends up signing him might end up with buyers remorse especially if it’s expensive.

With the way free agency has started, it appears to set up for an offense heavy draft.

Defense will be set up to take the next step with CJGJ paired with Bullock at safety alongside the DL signings and re-signings.

Frank Ross showing big balls. ST was average at best last year…being kind. Happy to see some reinforcements for Ross. ST needs to be back in that top 5 camp again.

I’d personally love to see a different punter. The current punter looks like Tarzan, kicks like Jane.

You can get punters late in the draft, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in a young kid with a strong leg.

George Fant was released by the Seahawks. Similar to Sheldon Rankins, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Texans bring him back at a discount compared to what it would’ve taken to sign him last offseason.

Quality swing tackle who only played two games last season due to injury. From what I can gather, knee injury but not sure extent. Came back week 9 and reaggravated week 1 knee injury that put him out for rest of season.

I thought Fant performed well here and I'd be happy to have him back

I’d love to have Fant back. Does he also play LT? If so, I would draft Simmons from Ohio St, and start Fant at LT until/unless the young buck is ready.

As far as Tunsil, much ado about nothing. Addition by subtraction. Remember when Tunsil went down, and they put in Austin Deculus? Ya you probably don’t remember because absolutely nothing happened. The chicken littles and their sky is falling forecast will be wrong again…as per usual. This will end up as a huge win long term. Very short term…maybe a step back at that spot but you’ve got to look at the whole, not the individual pieces.

In fact, while we are ridding ourselves of the non SWARM lineman, let’s completely sweep out the room and trade or release Howard. You want to tear it down and make it better.. .completely tear it down.

Since they decided to trade Tunsil tearing it down, trading Howard and going young on the OL so they can grow together as a unit would be the smart thing to do. Which is exactly why I dont expect this to happen.

I'm with you dude.
Nick is like Gordon Ramsey in his kitchen right now

Caserio to the offensive line.

I'm sure I probably missed something but here's a list of signings

CB/KR Tremon Smith
DE Darrell Taylor
DE Sheldon Rankins
DL Mario Edwards
LB Nick Niemann
OG Laken Tomlinson
S C.J. Gardner Johnson
WR Braxton Berrios
WR Christian Kirk
WR Justin Watson
So far it's been additions to an already good defense and a rebuild of the offense. I think that's the right way to do it. The draft will be interesting. I'm assuming they go heavy offense, but I don't know.

Maybe Kenyon Green will magically change everything we've seen from him on the field and in the weight room to live up to his 1st round pick? I'm not going to hold my breath but if he does not, I do think that some combination of Patterson or Juice at LG/C will be just fine and the coaching staff's ability to put together a serviceable line with spare and discarded parts cannot be overlooked. They made Austin Deculus look like a an NFL player in the 30-6 drubbing of the Steelers that had a decent defense.

I wanted to echo Porky's sentiment as to the "chicken littles" overreacting about Tunsil getting dealt. I found an old post from last year that was similar. It seems like the line as a whole has played better when the "big names" weren't on the field. I know it's a small sample size and just anecdotal, but I think we may be dealing with an additional by subtraction situation.

Howard jocked Tunsil to an absurd level so much in which he was "sick" over his departure. Outside of my speculation into Howard's sexual proclivities, Tunsil was emulated by at least one of the other OLmen to not work hard or be accountable. I think the Laken signing has more to do with bringing in a vet that, despite his average to below average play, stays on the field (has only missed one game in 10 years). I wouldn't mind another signing to see if we can instill some of that SWARM on offense that we see everywhere on defense.

On paper and from a pure individual talent level, I think that we won't be able to bring in a player that matches Tunsil's talent. However, I think that the OL will play much better, assuming the coaches on the staff know what they're doing.

Very underwhelming additions on the offensive side of the ball.

Im underwhelmed, the world is ending, run for your lives! 🏃‍♀️

FA isn’t even open yet. Let’s wait until at least May before we slit our throat and hang ourselves from the light pole. :elvis:

You had me at sexual proclivities….

Seeing how they fit:

Tremon Smith: ST Ace can also get provide serviceable depth at CB. Most importantly, means we wont be seeing Boyd making a boneheaded penalty and shoving his coach in a playoff game again.

DL additions: Bring back Edwards and Barnett. Yes! Then you add Rankins to take Foley’s snaps. Rankins brings superior pass rush upside than Foley had. Then they add a true “designated pass rusher” in Darrell Taylor to come in on obvious passing downs.

I am excited to see what kind of pass rush variations DeMeco will create with this deep DL that has the horses to keep opposing QBs in the pressure cooker all 4 quarters.

Niemann: Core ST guy. Possible replacement for Del’shawn Phillips, maybe even Neville Hewitt (though I hope they bring Hewitt back).

Tomlinson: League average starting OG with iron man level durability. Will provide legitimate competition for a starting OG spot and wont totally embarrass themselves like Kenyon Green or the ghost of Shaq Mason.

CJGJ: A bonafide ball hawk to add to a secondary filled with them. You will be hard pressed to find a better secondary than this year’s Texans with CJGJ added to the mix.

WRs: Kirk is a plus starter at WR. If healthy, will be able to fill the Diggs role and be the hot read for CJ. 1000 yard WR upside. Watson fills the “Woods” vet glue guy role. He’ll be where he’s supposed to be and will compete with Hutch and Metchie for a roster spot. Berrios provides a plus return man and some WR depth. An upgrade over Sims.

The team isn’t done yet. Nick is still in the kitchen and he’s got some late round picks burning a hole in his pocket!

I just want to see a couple more OL brought in. I know Aaron Wilson said they plan on the tackles being Fisher and T.Howard, but we still need some more talent there...

Diggs, Allen, Cooper, Cooks and Lockett all still on the market. I wonder if D Hop’s contract will bring their asking price down to a level that would make sense for the Texans to add one of them to the WR room?

I am not an expert on Tomlinson. Just a guy I didn't follow at all, so my take is probably weak...but from what I can ascertain, he's very durable and considered an average starter at LG. I think he may have made the pro-bowl once.

As of today, I'd consider him to have the inside track to LG this year. It will depend on what happens the rest of FA and the draft of course, but he's the leading candidate imho.

I also think it's ridiculous to take one practice rep and make an entire eval on a guy from that. Caley, Cole, and Nick watched plenty of film before we signed him. I'll trust their eval until proven otherwise.
