2025 Free Agency-

Dobbins, already 30 years old this season, spent four years with the Ravens, playing in only 24 games. He missed all of the 2021 campaign after he blew out his knee.....................in fact, he tore his ACL, LCL, hamstring tendon, menscus (which required excision, not repair), and articular cartilage. In 2022, hen he returned, he tore another meniscus which was trimmed. Dobbins then in week 1 2023 against the Texans, tore his Achilles missing the rest of the season. Finally, upon returning last season, in week 12 he suffered an MCL tear which resulted in him missing 4 weeks.

With all of his knee injuries, his knee is no longer stable. Add the Achilles tear and you can expect not only lower extremity instability, but also loss of strength. All of this history is if nothing else a formula for predictable poor performance, projected additional injuries, and acutely short career. "Electric??" No thank you.
I knew this post was coming, with this said, he was healthy last year and I would sign him to a one year deal because he's excellent at pass pro. He wouldn't get more than 100 total touches though.

He was not healthy last year.

Also, the 2 games he last played when he returned from the MCL last season were against the Patriots and Raiders, 2 relatively weak run defenses.

If the Browns are willing to let him go, IMO Ford is a great target. We saw with the Browns that he can indeed run over and trough people. Team him with Marks as a 1-2 punch in 2026, if we don't draft a RB. Marks is near the same size but a bit slower and a better receiver. Ford is a better between the tackles guy and taking on contact. Fords catching has really been a lot better since he was drafted.

Wouldn't be a free agency move, and the Browns have almost no other veteran presence at RB. The only other veteran RB on their current roster is Pierre Strong Jr. But I do like Ford, he's tough and has some explosiveness to him.

My greatest issue with the options to backup Mixon is health. We saw it last season. Too often when Mixon was hurt or needed a spell Pierce was also injured.

In my opinion the backup absolutely HAS to be durable. Dobbins is basically the antonym to durable.

Per JA, Pierce will be handling the #1 RB duties during OTA's. Mixon is not going to participate due to recovering from injury. Mixon will be good to go for the season.

But does this tell us anything about how they view the pecking order?

Not necessarily. Jordan, Taylor, and Dare are definitely not RB2 and Marks is a rookie. Pierce at RB1 in OTAs makes the most sense. Still have to see how the pre-season activities shake out.

I actually like the idea of Pierce as RB1 through the process because it gives the best indicator if a) he’s not too hampered by injuries and b) the scheme change is beneficial to him.

That said the downside is that most of this process is without pads and as a whole judging RBs without pads is difficult.

You're going to be pleasantly surprised with Marks. He's not a starting 17 games a season guy. But if you put Marks with Pierce/Dobbins you can get through an injury to Mixon even given Pierce/Dobbins injury history. I'll give you MO, Mixon/Dobbins is a great RB room. Put Marks with them and that's good stuff. Pierce is on notice, but with his KR ability I dont think he gets cut. I also hope/think he's going to be a great fit in the new scheme.

Marks is the heir to Mixon. However, if he does not look as good as the FO thinks...they draft a RB next year or worst case scenario year after and sign a good FA (Gus Edwards, Chubb before injury) type for the year
