Because of Slowik. He doesn’t trust Cj to run the offense. Cj doesn’t audible at the line of scrimmage. The shannahan scheme more times than not lets the center do the pass protection while other schemes usually let the Brady’s, mannings and Mahomes call out the blitz. You can see every game Cj trust is going down. He was under the impression that Slowik and strausser taught the offensive line so they know what they’re doing but that shows up because when they get tricked with certain blitzes, we see Cj shows frustration when it doesn’t work out.
Slowik offensive scheme works well when you have a great center like Kelce who can call everything on the line.

He’s so caught up in his slide protection scheme. One guy is usually blocking 1 man while the other 4 are teaming up in a double team and the o line is guessing wrong on a lot of the plays due to the stunts and other trickery schemes. That’s where teams are really exposing them. Great offenses know how to do man to man protection. Great football minds will sit down and wonder if Slowik came into the season expecting defenses not to figure out his scheme. What’s even worse is he’s forcing it although it’s getting exposed and is looking worse every game. Life is tough on Cj right now
I was listening to a podcast that stated a fair amount of Shanahan styles offenses don’t include the QB in recognizing protections which makes it all on the center. With this mindset, Stroud doesn’t have the knowledge base to call make changes.

Does anyone know why Collins isn’t practicing? There were tons of reports that rehab is going well and he’s running up to 20mph. Why wouldn’t they activate him for the game if that is the case?
Coach speak. His injury is taking longer than 4 weeks to heal. Doesn’t matter who is on the schedule, doesn’t change the real timeline to return from his injury, that we wont be told other than what @CloakNNNdagger can decipher.

I was right all along last week. Mentioned Mixon might have had words with the coaching staff in the jets game. Last snap Mixon played had 7:38 left on the clock in the 4th. He didn’t play anymore after that. Seeing reports Mixon called out the Texans players and coaches to play to winning football standards. It’s good to see someone step up in the leadership role after diggs injury. It’s kind of embarrassing for a player to call out the coaches. Jheez

Has nothing to do with trust. He learned this offense from the 49ers HC who doesn’t allow his quarterbacks to call out blitz or audible out of plays.
It has everything to do with trust. It Mahomes was in the 49ers offense, you don’t think the keys would be giving to him to call audibles?

Absolutely not! Has nothing to do with the QB. Just like Kubiak with Schaub, there are alternates built into every play. QB and WR have to see the same things, WR's have to run precision routes and be on the spot.

Are you sure it's the offensive line's job to pick up blitzing cornerbacks?
Not all the time. That’s the problem with the scheme. The qb isn’t asked to do so much. Brady’s, Mahomes and the great QBs would pick a blitzing cb apart because they can recognize it and audible or give a hot route in the play. Do you see where I’m going here.

No he wouldn’t because KS doesn’t allow his quarterbacks to do any of that.
Maybe because he’s never had a generational qb. We’re talking about Jimmy Garaoppolo and Mr. irrelevant Brock Purdy. Kind of why Slowik is holding Cj back. He’s not an average qb. Joe Burrow and Cj are probably the most accurate qbs in today’s NFL. A 10/31 completion last game points to big problems with his scheme.

You guys are right. My point is Cjs being misused.

Hoping you are correct, but why do you feel this way?

Just a gut feeling mostly.

We'll be at home, brand new uniforms. Team should be well rested. Sunday night football will have the stadium and team charged up.

Plus coming off an embarrassing loss I expect this team to be extra focused. I believe this team has strong leadership starting with Demeco and Stroud and im almost positive they (along with others) really challenged everyone this week.

If this team come out flat and looks unprepared then they arent who i think they are and to me that would be a huge red flag.

While I’m huge homer I can’t ignore the gaping holes on the offensive line and our weak front seven. I’m expecting a blowout loss that will end all the hype that we had going into the season. I just hope they get out of this game with no injuries, especially CJ!

My final prediction is 42 - 13 this game may be over by halftime. The Lions are what I wanted this team to be.

They have a nasty, physical damn good o-line that both protects the QB and mashes in the run game, multiple offensive weapons and a great ground game…a smart QB who distributes the ball with polish and a coach with balls bigger then the Empire State Building.

THAT IS SWARM

We have pretend swarm. Pretend swarm is letterman jackets. Dont tell me about swarm and put this product on the field. SHOW me swarm.

After this game, I’m rooting for the Lions all the way to the SB.

I watch every game, no matter how bad we are. I am like that woman who always has bruises on her face, but refuses to leave the drunk bastard putting them there. I am her....

You have 3 bruises. You've handed out 6. The drunk bastard should be the one leaving.
Of those six bruises, one came from a punch, the rest were slaps on the wrist. That poor woman's going to get thrown out of a four-story window on Sunday.

I watched that Detroit/Green Bay game. Played in Green Bay, that game was 24-6 Detroit in the 3rd quarter. That was an off game for the Lions offense. Even so, Goff was efficient, completing 18 of 22 passes.

I expect the Lions are going to run early (they average 4.9 ypc), mix in some short passes, and by the 2nd quarter start opening up a lead with play action. By the end of the 3rd quarter the game will be out of reach for the Texans.

I'll be surprised if the Texans score more than 2 TD's. Being held to two or three field goals would not surprise me.

I think it was in the Packers game CJ was getting hit out of bounds and none of his offensive linemen came over to pick a fight. That's when I realized this offense was in serious trouble. It looks doubtful Nico will return for this game but he can't fix whatever mental issues the offensive line is having. With the amount of pressure Stroud is taking this year, you could insert Jerry Rice and Randy Moss in their primes into the lineup and the Texans would still struggle scoring.

I know you weren’t asking me but for me… it’s parity in the NFL. I expect us to be competitive.
No problem as it's open for discussion. However, your statement is expectation and not a reason for me to actually believe.
I am hopeful also but not based on any reason but being a fan.

Not only do I see where you are going but I agree. When you have a cornerback or a safety in a position allowing a blitz, with no one to block that DB, the quarterback has to know a blitz is highly likely. That is something that we did not see with Stroud last year or this year in my opinion, for the most part.

To quote Steve Smith Sr., "put your goggles on because there's going to be blood and guts everywhere."
Here's to hoping that the Texans have several surgeons standing on the sidelines for our team. A heavy supply of slings, knee braces, shoulder harnesses, neck braces, hamstring fixer uppers and ace bandages for ankles.
I know. Everyone wants to diminish the wins and amplify the losses. The Big Tuna said "You are what your record says you are." I'll go with that.
You are where in the win and loss columns you are. That has minimal to do with what type of team you are in our case. People are amplifying the losses because of what we have seen from the team and the coaches.
Yes, some are overreacting but there is still lots of💩 on the cleats.

Listen Mangler I'd guess that even the most delusional Texans have set aside their fantasies about for example going deep in the P/Os, winning 13 games, etc. by now.

If the Texans are as inept as you describe, you have to give them a tremendous amount of credit for getting 6 wins thus far.

You seem to be saying I cannot do both : appreciate the good and identify the bad.

I will also discuss the ugly; which seems to be popping up more frequently.

If Nico has a good game against Detroit and does not get injured, praises will be heard among the Hills. If he does not have a good game or is injured let alone both, Hellfire shall rain down from the volcanoes.

The offensive line will be better than any game this season. That gives me hope that Stroud will be Stroud. Hopefully he cleans up his holding onto the ball too long.

Defense will give Goff fits. Can’t wait!

Like I said - trap game for Detroit.

Texans win.

Don’t care if it’s ugly win that Detroit gives us.

A win is a win is a win.

You Debbie Downers can continue using your same old line: “I hope for a win but expect a loss.”

Not me.

Go Texans!

Detroit will destroy us. Not even going to watch this thing. It won't be a game. It will be a public execution.
I agree, but that's never stopped me before.

I will tune in... but for how long and how intently is up to the Texans.

Not a fan of the all red either, I liked the red jersey white pants combo but... I'm fine with the ketchup packet look IF they put football worth watching on the field... an eye sore AND bad football well... Ill save my retinas.

Being an old Oilers fan I can watch a game win or lose but I expect us to being fighting when the time runs out. The Oilers never quite and i never stopped watching so as I am with my Texans. We will fight to win and I hope CJ doesnt get a serious injury bing sacked due to an OL weakness.

I watch regardless, I'm a junkie. I will be teeing off at 8:20 am Sunday and will be good and lubed up by the time kickoff rolls around. Gonna be nice and cool so watching the game in the garage with a whiskey and a cigar will make it bearable (if it goes bad) and all that much better (if it goes well).
I honestly don't see a win here. The Lions have big nasties on the Oline! If Goff throws more than 22-25 times it means the Texans are given em the business. Texans are gonna have to win the TO battle, obviously, but need to score TD's with those TO's. That's what killed em in GB. Lions pass rush is not very good so lets hope the oline can get right Sunday night.

I’m basing this on what I’ve observed: How long has it been since the Texans scored a touchdown in the second half? This season, they’ve averaged just 9 points in the second halves of games, ranking 25th in the league. In the past three games, only Tennessee has scored fewer second-half points. No NFL team scores fewer points at home in the second half this season.

Don't get me wrong; I’d certainly rather be 6-3 than 3-6. But there are some clear areas for improvement. The team has notable offensive challenges—some obvious, like play calling and blocking, while others may be less apparent. Hopefully, these issues can be addressed, allowing the Texans to emerge as a genuine NFL contender. I’m not ruling them out, but I can’t ignore what’s been unfolding on the field.

Why BB I didn't know you were such a philosopher, but I like it, I like it a lot !

Nico Collins (hamstring) returned to practice on Friday on a limited basis and is questionable. He will have to be activated to the 53-man roster to play.
But Tank Dell (back) was added to the injury report on Friday as a limited participant in practice. He is also questionable for Sunday.

Defensive end Derek Barnett (calf/shoulder), defensive end Dylan Horton (illness), linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (knee), guard Shaq Mason (hip), safety Jimmie Ward (groin), and offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson (concussion) are off the report and are expected to play.

Good. So when we face them in the SB they'll think it's a walk in the park and won't be as focused.
No that wouldn't be the case because they know in this upcoming game we are seriously limited by injuries to key players. They wouldn't lose focus against us if we are at mostly full to full health.

Dell suffered a back strain yesterday. He should not play. The way he plays, he gets knocked around too much to do it with a compromised back. If he does not reinjury his back, with weak core, he is a high risk for compensatory injury.
Started the season thinking the Texans had the deepest WR room in the NFL. Now the top three might not play against the best looking team in the NFL!

This soft and undisciplined bunch of clowns is going to get utterly destroyed. They would even at full health. The coaching is consistently piss poor and I honestly hope they lose the rest of their games at this point. I have zero desire to see this team get bent over in the playoffs again. Go Lions!!!!!!!!!!!! Humiliate these losers in primetime for the world to laugh at!!!!!!! My prediction is Lions 63 and Texans 6.

That's a little too optimistic. The Lions tape the Texans to their own goal posts, take the cheerleaders back to Detroit on the charter plane, and hang a 100 burger at NRG. To add insult to injury, the Lions block CareBear's last second 70 yard FG and it splits the Texans uprights to invoke a little known scoring rule.

Lions 100
Texans -3

I worry about the Lions offense hitting our D hard................their pass game is on a roll, but their run game has been on fire. I don't see our CBs neutralizing their pass game. Nor do I see our Dline and LBs neutralizing the run game. On offense, the Oline has to have a miraculous turnaround. Stroud has got to routinely get rid of the ball quickly,, with more play action and plays called must be fast-developing..................not slow developing plays for long passes (which the Texans can't handle this). And, ultimately, hurried or not, lStroud must make much smarter decisions and protect the ball much much better.

With all that said, you'll have to excuse me if I don't run to Vegas to lay down my money based on your assessment and predictions:tiphat:

You also predicted we would lose to the Bills by 3 TD or more... just sayin'
Admittedly, I am not optimistic at all about this one - our receiving Corp is decimated.
They gonna have to hope Schultz and Jordan are in good catching form along with Woods and Hutch.
They may also have to use Mixon more as a receiver in this one and let Pierce and Obungawali run it.
And the defense also needs to ball out again.
Even if this goes favourably for the Texans, this is gonna be a tough go.
